  • The Athletic gave us a B+ for both picks.

I gotta say l was a little surprised they didn’t go for Downs or Bain when both were still available at 9 after the trade down. If they were truly going for BPA wouldn’t you think one of those guys would’ve been the pick?

It occurred to me Berry is probably playing it safe to hang on to his job.

I'd like to see them be aggressive and trade up if they are targeting specific players

Exactly.  The trade with the Chiefs gives us fire-power to get back into round 2 for a second dip if we wanted.  I still want Boston.  Do we want to move up from pick 7 in round 2 to snag him?  We can do it now.  I don't have a passion for drafting three 5th rounders.  Let's use them to move up and get someone that we really want.  -  I'm looking forward to day 2's action.

Totally agree using those picks to move up early. Unfortunately I will have to keep up via my phone since wifey scheduled an evening out for dinner with friends starting exactly when day 2 draft starts.

  • the 24 pick - the Browns gave KC Concepcion the opportunity to star with the Browns offense.

Watching his highlights - he really has that kind of ability, so I will be excited and have to admit I was one of those who overlooked him. Stuttering aside, and the drops rate aside.....he can really play - explosive, elusive and has some terrific instincts.

I have a sneaking suspicion that there are some front offices that rank Bain far lower than you would think

Evidently. I figure the “short arms” thing made a difference. He’s a wrecking ball on the D line though.

  • I don't follow this stuff closely anymore, to be sure. There used be a time where I'd watch these nearly naked kids run fast at the combine, but those days are gone (odd to think about in that context).

I get where people are coming from with Fano, but the dude can obviously play OL at a high level. Even if OT doesn't quite pan out, if he turns into a rock on the line for the next 6-8 years while affording versatility it's a no brainer pick.

I truly have no opinion on KC, I am just glad the organization addressed needs without overt reaches. I would have LOVED to have Downs as I truly believe he was the best player in this draft. But Fano addressed a much, much stronger concern for an offense that's been anemic for years. I understand the idea of BPA no matter what, but this offense desperately needed talent infusion in every aspect.

I am excited to see what Monken and crew can do with Judkins and this significantly upgraded OL (on paper). I wouldn't be opposed to a RB at some point today- I like Sampson a lot, but the more talent the better.

  • Who are you guys hoping the Browns nab today? I only watch so much college football so my opinion is limited.

I’d be happy with some Hoosiers. D’Angelo Ponds is a small guy but a heckuva corner. I’m high on Elijah Sarratt too. I like their TE Nowakowski tomorrow.

Gennings Dunker, the Guard out of Iowa has a great ginger mullet.

Here’s a screenshot of who The Athletic thinks the best available players are as of now.

While we're in this fame of mind - Is Fano going to settle in as a RT, OG, C or LT?

The Browns still need OL so any of these are needed... As someone who watched Fano play 4 games this year I'll be happy to debate Robert Gallery tuned out to be a very solid NFL OL once he was no longer being squared pegged in as a LT.  Come to think of it, this kind of happened when Fano was replaced at LT in Utah and he played a different Tackle spot.  He became much more highly regarded.

The Browns still need a LT unless one feels Dawand Jones can make it a full year without IR for the 1st time.  I think Miami's Markel Bell really morphed into a very good LT the 2nd half of this past season.  He gave up ZERO sacks as well fwiw and his team had quite a run in the CFP.  I'd be happy if we added him or Caleb Tiernan today.

I'm thinking Fano ends up at RT. A&M's Bisontis sits right about where our next pick is today and was the best of our OL players. He fills our G need and I think can play from day one. Of course I'd rather we trade up for Boston, but I'd be OK with Bisontis if that does not happen.

^^^^ this right here is my issue with the pick.

But To our delight he’s no Jed Wills it is a lazy comparison to say RT-LT with some physical limitations - he’s not Jed Wills part 2.  He’s been healthy throughout his young career too.

But if I’m passing up Cornerstone players for a guy that may or may not settle into the most important spot on the line and I could be moving this guy  around - I’m not happy about that.

if we need a LT and mid August rolls around and we’ve found out he’s better inside or at RT…all those need people out there- question for you - have we satisfied a need?

Which I would say that was a reach at #9 for a RT.

Is the draft over?  Why might they announce such a thing when he played RT at Utah the last 2 yeas?  If he was their solution, would there have ever been any reason to play Lomu at LT at all the last 2 years?  This is only Utah we're talking about.

Next, what was the reason Fano was snapping the football in some dills at the Combine? What team's coaching staff was running the Oline drills he was snapping the football in?  Is it conceivable, that the Browns know their fans wanted a LT drafted in round 1?   Is it also conceivable that the Browns may want to try to draft another guy tonight that actually played LT as recently as this past season?  If so, they should have announced Fano is their LT so no other teams think they need to trade up for somebody who was the best LT on his college football team.  1 example of someone like this could be the LT on the last team that beat Ohio State in the CFP (Miami)?  That guy gave up ZERO sacks this year including opponents like Ohio State and Texas A&M.  When I watched footage of Fano with TJ this week - his arm length worked against him in pass protection with all that open space on his outside shoulder.  If there was an OT on his outside shoulder - it shuts downs all that space and worry about am length in pass pro.

I'm not saying Fano sucks, I'm saying I'd rather see him line up here at LG, C, RG or RT.  He's Utah's 2nd best LT and who is the only guy in here that wanted us to draft Lomu at #24 (in fact, I wanted him at #6 until I got cold feet the last week).  Who was with me?  I'll root for Fano; but it'll be a lot easier if we play him where he stands the best chance to succeed (that was RT the last 2 seasons he played).  If they don't play him where he's best suited to play - he's gonna feel a lot like Robert Gallery once did until one of his NFL Coaches finally concluded "hey, this guy should play OG."  Once he did he was a very good starter.

Could I be wrong here?  Absolutely.

Not a bad point CD; but let's meet this dysfunctional OL where it is at and stat putting the pieces together where they fit at this time (subject to change) as things get going.  As last season closed, Dawand Jones was on IR after his 3rd consecutive knee surgery in as many years as he's been here;  Jed Wills was on a milk carton that read has anyone seen this former Alabama Right Tackle?;  Cam Robinson came here after he was no longer any help whatsoever to Houston offering Cleveland the same inability - while Cornelius Lucas came here after showing up late to a meeting with father time and gave us the same type of help any hibernating bear in the winter is capable of not to shock anyone but Jack Conklin was just as oft-injured as he usually is...

In essence, BOTH Offensive Tackle positions need to be upgraded in 2026 so we have to fill both positions regardless of which one is first. If the Browns studied up Fano and drafted him for their offense - they obviously want his help on their starting OL.  OT has been neglected here in recent drafts so this is the fallout.  Get us 2 good starters and I'll let a vey, vey, vey, vey wealthy Jimmy Haslam worry about how much he has to pay them.  If there's a promising guy that actually played LT last year - I think we need him so giddy up and get after it TONIGHT!

Here's my dark horse LT that played LT and gave up zero sacks last season.  His development accelerated the 2nd half of the season and throughout the playoffs.  Him at LT and Fano where the Browns think he fits best upgrades last year with Dawand Jones looking like the anorexic elephant in the room feeling all brand new again.  Let's upgrade that hot mess from last year and not worry where Fano is projected to play just upfront just yet.

I was hoping for Lomu at 24 after the night was progressing.

I think that would have really gone a long way to solidify our line and have still been able to find a WR in 2nd.

    Lomu was there at 24.

many of us said a left tackle would be available at 24.

Howard is here for two years so we are essentially drafting for the LT spot.

This is all you need to know….Is Fano that much better than Lomu at the left tackle spot that you pass on Downs?

If Concepcion is the next Zay Flowers maybe that softens the blow.
