I just read this. It’s a little funky, l agree. The crazy thing is this tribal culture we’re creating means that no one really cares about how much debt we rack up or how our money could be better spent, as long as it benefits the tribe they support.
I don’t think we have a major political party that cares about fiscal responsibility anymore. Both of them just open the valves for causes they support, and close them for things they don’t support, but the debt just grows bigger. This was the most interesting snippet from the article:

I appreciate the politicians who make the unpopular decisions to vote no on “in the red” spending like Rand Paul and Massie, but there’s not enough of them and it’s easy enough to replace them.
I miss that about the republican party. They were willing to make the unpopular ”no” vote because they had support to do that, but that support has dwindled to the point that it’s not enough.

We used to have politicians who at least tried to curb it, and there have been attempts to balance the budget in the past, but it’s been a while and it never lasted long. I’ll post some highlights. There was a window in the Clinton era, and there was the post WWII Truman era, and before that was the gilded age when we still had people driving horse and buggies.
There’s plenty of info out there on how the deficit has grown and how much interest we are paying on that debt. As l said, there isn’t enough support on either side of the aisle to make a difference on it anymore. Republicans simply overspend on things they value, and democrats do the same.
