Last time l looked into it food stamps (or SNAP benefits) was a relatively small portion of the federal budget. I just did a quick comparative analysis, and thatâs still the case.
SNAP benefits cost about $1 billion a year. Definitely not insignificant. However, a B-2 Stealth bomber costs $2.1 billion per unit, so for the cost of half a stealth bomber, we can feed all of our poor people.
I know itâs the chic thing to do to get down on poor people as a drain on our society, but itâs a really small drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.Â
Iâve shared this before, but l grew up poor, single mom with 2 jobs and all that shit, and she still relied on food stamps to get by, and lâm eternally grateful for that and have put in the work to pay it back, and l think lâve done that tenfold by now and still working at it.Â
The last thing you want is desperate people living among you. I truly believe that. Itâs not pretty and it bears plenty of shame, but government assistance programs like SNAP curbs desperation and helps people get on their feet, and thatâs worth more to me than half a stealth bomber.
