Myles Garret traded to LA Rams

  • 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year, Verse was #53 of the top 100 players going into 2025 according to NFL.com. Close by at #55 was Detroit's DE Aiden Hutchison and SF's DE Nick Bosa at #57. That's pretty damn good company with a lot of upside for years to come IMO. Throw in the others and the deal was a good one for the future.

So now we have the '24 & '25 defensive rookies of the year.  But I'll tell you what, The Browns beat BOTH the Steelers & the Bengals because they were playing scared of Myles Garrett.  They were looking over their shoulders all game long.  We are not as good of a defense as we were with him.  Our new DC now has an excuse for a defensive drop-off.  IMO, he should've gone straight to Canton from Cleveland.   We Browns fans gave him total support and love.  But he wanted to get away from us anyway.  He's no Joe Thomas.

My 2nd favorite NFL team is the Rams, since Roman Gabriel days. ( my brother was a Rams fan ).  -  I hope they lose every game next year.

What a terrible trade. This trade in my opinion does little to help you acquire a QB in the next draft. I would like to know why they felt they must trade him now after just resigning him.

The only teams who would make this trade are teams that are contending. You'd have to get lucky and get one of those teams who has multiple firsts next year to truly get a chance at the top QB via traded picks alone. I am a bona fide Andrew Berry Hater, but there is no world where we were getting 3 firsts for him. When you compare it to the Micah Parsons trade, this one is pretty similar in value if you think that Verse is a first-round pick.

It was always going to be a long season. Myles wins the team 3 games on his own. How many wins did you think the browns were going to have before the trade?

I still think the Browns are gonna be decent...

  • This isn't the haul I expected or hoped for, but as I've said over and over and over this offseason, this team is being built for Brookpark.

The Browns got a much younger DE and draft capital for a QB next season. If some of you are right and this coming season is going to be rough, they might have a QB fall into their laps without trading away picks.

Hate to say this, but a Matt Stafford injury would really help.

Probably a "sell high" move at this point, as he's 31 years old. I haven'rt read about salary cap implications, but I'm sure this frees up $$ for some of the younger guys getting close to their 2nd contract.

Ditto. We've been burned before, but competent QB play should get the Browns around .500 (I know that's a big "if").

Ain't that a shame though? We're not the NBA, yet, but God damn

  • I think this is the best the Browns were going to get and that's why it took until June.

Someone brought up Micah Parsons...probably the best comparable example. He was traded for a 3x Pro Bowler who was a first round pick plus two additional ones.

I hate to say it, but his career stats are trending better than Myles (last time I checked).

It sucks. MG has averaged 16.5 sacks the last five seasons. If he maintains that another season, he'll be #6 all-time and 18 sacks shy of #3 all-time.

We're going to see him in Canton either way, I wish it would have been straight from Cleveland. No chance of that now.

The Browns get two firsts, a second and a third.

The 2027 Draft Board currently looks like this (thank you to the google):

Round 1: Own pick and the Los Angeles Rams' pick (acquired in the Myles Garrett trade).

    Round 2: Own pick.

    Round 3: Own pick.

Round 4: Own pick, the New York Giants' pick (acquired in a 2026 draft day trade), and the Seattle Seahawks' pick (acquired in a 2026 draft day trade).

Round 5: Own pick and the Houston Texans' pick (acquired in a 2025 draft day trade).

Round 7: Own pick and the Houston Texans' pick (acquired in the Cam Robinson trade).

In 2028, they have their picks plus two from the Rams. A 2nd for Myles. A 7th for KT Leveston.

In 2029, they have their picks plus the 3rd for Myles.

So 27 picks over the next three drafts. They probably won't use them all, but someone mentioned our "Hershel Walker moment." This is about as close as we'll get.

If this team is being built for Brookpark, I'll take it....(mirroring the Tribe) 8 consecutive winning seasons, 6 AFC North Titles, 2 Super Bowl Appearances.

    There's my silver lining.

  • I hate it ! hate it & still hate it hours later !  ?

Amtrak'd to Philly, to watch this true freak athlete get drafted in 2017 to my favorite team.

I never had any interest in clicking on any #95 trade links

On any given Sunday? Myles Garrett may have been the only Entertainment I saw on a NFL week ?

Myles Garrett ! Thanks for never taking a down off on this town since 2018 ! Class act stud !

Good Luck getting that SB ring Myles Garrett !

  • The sunny way to look at this is that ever since DePodesta left, the football decisions have been at minimum very good, arguably great.

In a shocking twist, the guy who knows nothing but baseball was really holding the organization back.  Makes you wonder if all the bad moves were things DePo banged the table for and made Haslam agree with -- and consequently Berry has always been better than anyone on this board could tell.

Garrett was always going to be past his prime when the Browns were able to achieve post-nut-clarity with the clearing of the Watson contract.  Verse is both young and better than any replacement or pick we could have hoped for, so the additional first and second [another starting OT and a starting OG/C] will be great pieces of the next Browns playoff team.

The “waiting until June” thing was by design. The team and Garrett signed a contract modification in March that made it easier to trade him in June. That’s why l think this was happening no matter what and the only question was who would pay the most. Here’s an excerpt from an Athletic article.

“The Browns chose not to hire defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz as their new head coach in January, and the team and Garrett agreed to a contract modificationin late March that deferred around $29 million in total bonus payments due to Garrett by September over the next three years. That modification made it more financially feasible for the Browns to trade Garrett, and the trade happened now because of the NFL’s post-June 1 salary-cap rules.”

    Ooo, you're evil.  🙂  I was thinking the same thing while posting my post earlier....but I didn't say it...'cuz it's evil. 🙂

We now have two second round picks in '28...so one of those could be used as part of a trade deal for a '27 QB.

Lookin' more and more like Haslam wants the Mannings involved with his team as opposed to the Sanders'.

But most yrs we started with misguided hope that dwindles at different speeds to reality.

Not so now this yr. 🙁 This yr we know we're fuckened prior to training camp..

  • I get the business side of this. It's just depressing to see a Hall of Famer, all-time sack leader DE leave us in his prime - I know he maybe only has 3 more years of elite level football in him, but it still sucks. This is a tank job for at least 2 more years, so they just got what they could while saving cap space. I'm super happy for Myles. He has a real shot at a Super Bowl. No one wins more from this trade than Myles.

I really hope for two things over the next few years: 1) We finally find a god damn competent quarterback, 2) Jimmy and Dee's private jet crashes into a mountain.

  • I do not understand the doom and gloom.  Watson will return, start and have a HOF year and the Browns will win 25 games this season

Now excuse me while I attend my Optimist's Anonymous meeting

  • As much as I liked Garrett being here, it's time to greet Jared Verse as a key part of the Browns team this coming season. I'm glad the comparisons with Nick Bosa show a reason for some optimism. This could have gone far worse as we know from our Watson experience.
