Myles Garret traded to LA Rams

The Browns Board

I think this is the best the Browns were going to get and that's why it took until June.

Someone brought up Micah Parsons...probably the best comparable example. He was traded for a 3x Pro Bowler who was a first round pick plus two additional ones.

I hate to say it, but his career stats are trending better than Myles (last time I checked).

It sucks. MG has averaged 16.5 sacks the last five seasons. If he maintains that another season, he'll be #6 all-time and 18 sacks shy of #3 all-time.

We're going to see him in Canton either way, I wish it would have been straight from Cleveland. No chance of that now.

The Browns get two firsts, a second and a third.

The 2027 Draft Board currently looks like this (thank you to the google):

Round 1: Own pick and the Los Angeles Rams' pick (acquired in the Myles Garrett trade).

    Round 2: Own pick.

    Round 3: Own pick.

Round 4: Own pick, the New York Giants' pick (acquired in a 2026 draft day trade), and the Seattle Seahawks' pick (acquired in a 2026 draft day trade).

Round 5: Own pick and the Houston Texans' pick (acquired in a 2025 draft day trade).

Round 7: Own pick and the Houston Texans' pick (acquired in the Cam Robinson trade).

In 2028, they have their picks plus two from the Rams. A 2nd for Myles. A 7th for KT Leveston.

In 2029, they have their picks plus the 3rd for Myles.

So 27 picks over the next three drafts. They probably won't use them all, but someone mentioned our "Hershel Walker moment." This is about as close as we'll get.

If this team is being built for Brookpark, I'll take it....(mirroring the Tribe) 8 consecutive winning seasons, 6 AFC North Titles, 2 Super Bowl Appearances.

    There's my silver lining.

The “waiting until June” thing was by design. The team and Garrett signed a contract modification in March that made it easier to trade him in June. That’s why l think this was happening no matter what and the only question was who would pay the most. Here’s an excerpt from an Athletic article.

“The Browns chose not to hire defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz as their new head coach in January, and the team and Garrett agreed to a contract modificationin late March that deferred around $29 million in total bonus payments due to Garrett by September over the next three years. That modification made it more financially feasible for the Browns to trade Garrett, and the trade happened now because of the NFL’s post-June 1 salary-cap rules.”

  • This isn't the haul I expected or hoped for, but as I've said over and over and over this offseason, this team is being built for Brookpark.

The Browns got a much younger DE and draft capital for a QB next season. If some of you are right and this coming season is going to be rough, they might have a QB fall into their laps without trading away picks.

Hate to say this, but a Matt Stafford injury would really help.

    Ooo, you're evil.  🙂  I was thinking the same thing while posting my post earlier....but I didn't say it...'cuz it's evil. 🙂

We now have two second round picks in '28...so one of those could be used as part of a trade deal for a '27 QB.

Lookin' more and more like Haslam wants the Mannings involved with his team as opposed to the Sanders'.

But most yrs we started with misguided hope that dwindles at different speeds to reality.

Not so now this yr. 🙁 This yr we know we're fuckened prior to training camp..

  • I get the business side of this. It's just depressing to see a Hall of Famer, all-time sack leader DE leave us in his prime - I know he maybe only has 3 more years of elite level football in him, but it still sucks. This is a tank job for at least 2 more years, so they just got what they could while saving cap space. I'm super happy for Myles. He has a real shot at a Super Bowl. No one wins more from this trade than Myles.

I really hope for two things over the next few years: 1) We finally find a god damn competent quarterback, 2) Jimmy and Dee's private jet crashes into a mountain.

  • I do not understand the doom and gloom.  Watson will return, start and have a HOF year and the Browns will win 25 games this season

Now excuse me while I attend my Optimist's Anonymous meeting

  • As much as I liked Garrett being here, it's time to greet Jared Verse as a key part of the Browns team this coming season. I'm glad the comparisons with Nick Bosa show a reason for some optimism. This could have gone far worse as we know from our Watson experience.

Your obsession with whining about Watson is duly noted, again.

It was always going to be a long season. Myles wins the team 3 games on his own. How many wins did you think the browns were going to have before the trade?

Myles alone wouldn't win any games.  Just playing on your words.

I do doubt Myles won that many games.   I like the trade.  We should have traded the guy last year.  The compensation we got was fair and should go a long way towards helping the team build.

  • The thing I'm worried about is Browns fans holding the Myles trade against Jared Verse.

Verse is a really good all-around edge player, but he's no Myles Garrett. In fact, there's a very good chance we as Browns fans will never see a defensive player wear orange and brown as good in our collective lifetimes.

The Browns will need to in the future find them another Jared Verse to pair with the original.

Looks to me like they are saying we tank this season and use draft capital to get the QB we really need in the 2027 draft. And that this is a statement that we know we do not have the QB currently. I can't disagree with that assessment unfortunately.

After 50 years of rooting for the Browns. I go into the season expecting 5-12. Anything better is a bonus.

  • I’m shocked.

Jared Verse has expressed visible displeasure regarding the blockbuster trade that sent him from the Los Angeles Rams to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett.

    AI lied.

Above is a direct quote from AI.

Hours later AI changed its tune.

No matter how I phrased the question, AI no longer states that Jared is disappointed.

    Instead we now get this:

No, Jared Verse has not expressed disappointment about being traded to the Browns. In fact, the Dayton, Ohio, native posted a message of gratitude to Los Angeles and is getting a homecoming as he steps into his new role.

    Welcome to Cleveland Jared.

FWIW, Verse has played 2 NFL seasons and made the Pro Bowl in both of them (as well as earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2024).   The Defense now has the last 2 Defensive Rookies of the Year in it while the 5th overall pick in 2025 will be frequently lining up next to Verse.

Myles is going to be our 2nd consecutive 1st ballot HOF player to be sentenced to a franchise that just never had the right passing game/QB in place.  In Joe Thomas' rookie year - the Browns won 10 games but still didn't make it to the playoffs.  The Browns won 11 games twice while Myles was here.  Unfortunately they could ONLY win 1 playoff game in Pittsburgh on a day the Browns D intercepted Roethlisberger 4 times and recovered Pittsburgh's 1st snap of the game in the end zone for a TD.

Speaking of Myles Garrett, he was the 1st pick overall in the 2017 draft. That said, Patrick Mahomes was the 10th pick overall in that same draft by Andy Reid & John Dorsey - while good judgment from the top was exercised by starting QB Alex Smith (a former 1st overall pick in SF) for the entire 2017 season.  It DOES help when there's already a playoff caliber team in place when the RIGHT QB comes along.

Aside from wondering if the next draft is finally going to line up the best possible franchise QB with 1 or both of our 1st round picks (in 2027) - will the coaching staff be able to develop him the right way without Jimmy interfering?  If we do need to lose enough to compete for the best 2 QB prospects in the 2027 draft - why not just start Shedeur from the get-go this year? Would it really suck if Shedeur exceeded all expectations here to the extent we didn't even need to draft a QB next year?  It'll be interesting to see what unfolds...

  • The other thing to remember in all of this- there was NEVER going to be a package that was fair for Myles Garrett when you really think about it. The man when it's all said and done could easily have both the highest single sack season and the all-time sack record, it addition to them already fitting his gold jacket. This is all in the context of him being in his physical prime.

I can tell you this much, though- I ain't buying a single sunday ticket package or anything other than sailing the high internet seas to watch the Browns this year. I completely understand why this happened, but it's not going to be pretty this year.

  • in L.A Verse would just be one of the guy's (a very good guy, but just a guy) in Cleveland he could end up being a Star

  • Both teams are in different positions, but if you were a Rams fan how would you feel about this trade?

I haven't seen any of Verse so nothing against him at all but I'd feel like we got away with robbery.

As a Browns fan, I try to stay optimistic and as with anything else, let's see how it goes.

I can't imagine them tanking on purpose but who knows, I think we do ok this year.

As far as draft position, I think we'll screw it up again.

Since Myles is no longer here I do not wish him the best though I hope he stays healthy and I hope the Rams crash and burn.

Living by a few out here…they didn’t want Verse included.  When Myles name came up…they were excited about the Verse Myles pairing.

if I am going to nitpick I don’t have faith in the Rams beyond next season (if old man Stafford gets hurt they arent making the playoffs) so instead of a 2nd and 3rd the following years another 1st in 28 or even 29 would have been great.

Anyone look at the Rams schedule next season it is brutal in the beginning and towards the end. They could easily miss the playoffs or even be first round exit.
