Myles Garret traded to LA Rams
-
Verse was the 2nd best run stopper in the league even ahead of Myles. It's apples and oranges though because Myles was double teamed so much more. But I think the run stopper value of Verse is being overlooked.
And how does this work out with the money & cap side? Does this free enough to go find another decent free agent DE on the other side?
-
Looks to me like they are saying we tank this season and use draft capital to get the QB we really need in the 2027 draft. And that this is a statement that we know we do not have the QB currently. I can't disagree with that assessment unfortunately.

At this point I almost wish we would have just lost the last two games of last season, ended up with the first overall pick and we’d be going into training camp next month with Mendoza as the QB of the future.
It makes you wonder… if it would have played out that way, would the Browns have still traded Myles? They’d already have their QB, so the need for draft capital wouldn’t be there now.

Verse is going to get paid very soon. His agent is salivating.

I hope not.
IF Arch comes to Cleveland, the Manning family will be welcomed with open arms and offered to buy equity in the team- I'd almost guarantee it. Easy way to drum up interest in the new stadium. See Tom Brady and the Raiders. Also makes it way less likely for him to pull an Eli to the Chargers moment.
This is why there was a strong case to hold onto him. This may shock the world but not every team can fit Myles in financially or can handle the asset departure and some aren’t at a point and time where it makes sense. So we didn’t have 25-30 offers.
You don’t get like for like with a first ballot hall of famer with prime years left. Because you aren’t getting that player in return at a premium position. They are unicorns.
So you hope Verse becomes very good and hits double digit sack numbers and you use all these picks now to hopefully find us the best QB we’ve had since Graham or Kosar. And the money you aren’t paying Myles you take it and spend it wisely adding some other talent. Hopefully 4 or 5 equals 1.
Indeed, my friend- indeed. We saw a small glimpse of Myles with competent QB play in 2019-2020 and, God willing, it would have been awesome to see that in three years with an up and coming rookie QB. Alas, three years in NFL terms may as well be a decade in others.

The other thing to remember in all of this- there was NEVER going to be a package that was fair for Myles Garrett when you really think about it. The man when it's all said and done could easily have both the highest single sack season and the all-time sack record, it addition to them already fitting his gold jacket. This is all in the context of him being in his physical prime.
I can tell you this much, though- I ain't buying a single sunday ticket package or anything other than sailing the high internet seas to watch the Browns this year. I completely understand why this happened, but it's not going to be pretty this year.

He all ready is very good, I will add top tier at his position

What a terrible trade. This trade in my opinion does little to help you acquire a QB in the next draft. I would like to know why they felt they must trade him now after just resigning him.

Do you see franchise QB in Arch Manning?
Me neither.

Looks like the Rams first 2 years of cap hit are minimal, then 98 million the next 3 years.

I'll be honest man, there was a time where I'd follow that sort of stuff to a science. Between kids and other priorities in life my football watching time is way lower yet alone the deep dives into footwork, release angles, and all that jazz. So truthfully I have no good basis to make the answer yes or no.
All I know is the dude checks off a lot of boxes you want at the QB position and I think it made a lot of sense to go back to Texas this year. He would have for sure gone top 5 if he declared this year on potential alone.

So the 2029 third round pick is a conditional pick, apparently.
If the Rams trade Myles to an AFC North team, that pick becomes a first rounder

Just reinforces what I said about this being a good trade for the Browns. 2nd best run defender in the league and others coming? What more would you want?
yet people still bitch, local la sports radio are saying they gave up to much
-
As noted on social media, including ESPN Cleveland, looking at what the Browns gave up and got in return in those three deals is an interesting way to evaluate Berry’s overall trades and remaking of Cleveland’s roster:
Traded Away
- Travis Hunter - Jaguars 1st round pick
- RB Bhayshul Tuten - Jaguars 4th round pick
- S Rayuan Lane III - Jaguars 6th round pick
- CB Greg Newsome II (Jaguars traded away the 6th round pick they received in the deal, in a smaller deal)
- DE Myles Garrett
Acquired in Trades
- DT Mason Graham
- RB Quinshon Judkins
- RB Dylan Sampson
- WR KC Concepcion
- DE Jared Verse
- CB Tyson Campbell
- 2027 1st round pick
- 2028 2nd round pick
- 2029 3rd round pick (that could become a 1st rounder)

Great! Let's trade with the Rams to get him back in a couple of years.

Seriously, how good does that trade in the 2025 Draft with the Jags look now?
Hunter - the generational unicorn that will revolutinize the NFL - is already relegated to basically being a cornerback only. I wonder if he'll ever be at even a Denzel Ward-level, and the Browns didn't have to trade away a first and second rounder to get Ward.

It all depends on what you do with the picks you get...so, in this trade, it Looks great!
In the Myles trade we get a younger player who has shown very well in his 1st 2 years. So we DO have a bird in the hand...and 3 in the bush. In theory, the last part of the trade, the 3rd rounder, won't have to ever play in the cold weather of Cleveland.

Joe Thomas has heartfelt words of wisdom on this.
