Lets not forget,Everyone keeps using these parallels "the first three games"
To add to Dama's post DA not only was handed the keys for 08 but he returned to the EXACT same system as he had the previous year, with the EXACT same players.
What do we have this year,Cribbs as our #2,wtf?
But there was no JJ at the other WR for those first 3 games last year, BE missed some camp, DA had a concussion early in preseason, etc. (note I am mocking those excuses)
-
KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!!
if Quinn can have just a couple more games, or even the rest of the season>>> I JUST KNOW HE CAN GET IT RIGHT!!!!
i just know you can do it BQ, i just know it!!!
fuk that stupid DA, all he does is throw picks!! BQ is our savior, NOT HIM!!! (he's not even from Ohio. wtf.)
i think we should get a BQ chant goin in the stands during warmups for the Bengals game, WHO'S WITH ME?!?!?!
WHOOHOO BQ!!!!

I win.
Score one for reason.
Yay.

Still waiting for Z's response to dama. I'm really interested.

Marko, the Quinnies were whining about the "circumstances" that Quinn had to deal with in his three starts this year. I pointed out that they are no worse than the circumstances Anderson dealt with in his first three games last year with all the injuries, etc. Then I said if you give Quinn a mulligan for those three games, he is just a big unknown, while if you give Anderson a mulligan for those three games he actually has a pretty impressive career start for a young QB.There is no bias there. I'm just trying to explain something .... but unfortunately far too many Browns fans are blinded by love for Quinn and/or hate for Anderson.
The fact that Anderson is the better option right now seems reasonable to me. I didn't declare him a saviour or anything else. I just think he gives us a better chance to win a football game this Sunday.
Everything after that is Quinn Fagdom rearing its ugly head. Yes, I went there.
Zombo
You have to throw out more than 3 games for Anderson to have a "pretty impressive start". Don't forget the 3 starts in 2006..those games count as well, including a tremendous 4 int game against a shitty Tampa Bay team. Those 3 starts combined with the end of 2007 and most of 2008 don't add up to anything impressive. Inconsistent maybe...incredibly frustrating because you never know what you're going to get week to week.
My question for everyone who is happy that Anderson is now starting and saying "he gives us a better chance to win" is this....what are all of you going to say if Anderson repeats his late 2007 performance against Cincy and throws 4 ints and looks just like he did last week against Baltimore and we get blown out again?

Bump.
Just making sure this is easy to find for Z.

Wow, what is that six posts by Grey and Juki anxiously waiting for me to join the thread?Sorry guys, since I wrote that last post I played in a golf tournament, got drunk, sold a house, got drunk, took my girlfriend to the Beach, partied all night, got up, had sex all morning, went to work, listed a condo, walked my dog, scratched my balls and took a three pound dump.
Now I log on to do "This Week" and you two are standing there panting like weimereiners nearly shitting yourselves because I haven't seen the memo that I got "owned" yet.
Ok ... thanks, nice memo.
Now I'm going to post "This Week", go have dinner, have sex all morning again and then go watch DA blow the Bungles out of the water. If I forget to check in to see if I got owned again, just PM me, that comes straight to my Blackberry.
Zombo
Only sold 1 house? Poor show.
-
Dana, that's in effect a full blown admission of getting owned. You won't get more. You won.

(Hopefully Z's good with taking a ball breaking since he so enjoys giving them out.)

What body of work are you referring to DA 27 starts or Quinns 5 1/2?Excuses galore for the assmunch that single handidly lost the cinci game, got a second hand ticket to the pro bowl a fat contract and won the job took all the reps in camp last year with the exact same system and sucked worse than this tired ass argument but he is the man?
Go back to having sex with houses and shitting out your thoughts,
This is some weak ass shit.
sometimes i can't even believe you are the same person. at times you type out some stuff i really agree with...but when it comes to the QB i have a hard time believing it's even you danamal.
is there more than one of you who posts as danamal? cuz i could actually relate to that--it would make sense for sure.
forget about DA in '06 and '07. forget about Quinn in '07 and '08. just like let's forget about what these guys did in college, high school, whatever. look at them today. DA throws picks and produces...and Quinn looks, well, conservative and ineffective, or "non-threatening" at best.
now look at them at their absolute best. to clarify, the best they've looked in the NFL that is.
at Anderson's best, he's very capable of competing against the best in the league>>>i truly believe this.
when he's on his game all cylinders are firing and the entire playbook is available. that's today. his performances against the Seahawks in '07, and the Giants and Colts in '08 showed he can compete at this level without a doubt and now his short game is better, which is a much needed improvement for him.
at Quinn's best Dawson kicked a bunch of 40+ yard field goals. even some 50+ yarders. pick the game, your choice. the excuse "we haven't seen Quinn at his best" is definitely hopeful, but wishful thinking ain't reality. the best we've seen from him so far would doubtfully beat the '09 Browns. ouch.
Anderson getting the nod this Sunday seems a no-brainer to me.

Please tell me you did not just say the above.
16/26 110 yards 4.2Y/A 0TDs and the fumble that cost the game is on your game (insert your own DA joke here)?
And when has he shown his short game is better? It wasn't in pre-season that much is for sure.
-
sure i said it. fuk those stats i own a copy of the game and have watched it more than a few times.
he protected the ball really well all game but in the fourth quarter the Colts D got a gift. the pick was due to a "miscommunication" on the play as they say. it was a merging of perfect defensive play on that down combined with an extremely badly timed fuk-up on offense...and it led to a pick 6. i put it on the receiver and the ball being innaccurate by a foot or so.
still, it happened. it was his only pick all game and he never forced anything deep all game. hey, the Colts are good. what do you want? yeah he threw a pick. yeah it led to the win after an awesome defensive stand by the Browns D. shit happens.
his short game is obviously better and it's apparent every time he throws a short pass. what do you really want here? watch the dude play and you see what you want to see i guess.
-
The thing that's interesting about Quinn is his total inability to throw the long ball accurately on a consistent basis. This leads to the defense not needing to drop back because they know it's not going to get bombed out there. This is the equivalent of stealing. Normally I would have thought Quinn deserved to be given a chance to progress.
But this inability to succeed was so bad it's holding back everyone else's progress.
It's not a wonderfully great decision but I see why it was made and on a selfish level am glad for less boring football. I always liked Derek, I believe he deserves another chance due to the skill set he has.

By changing a couple of words in your post you can see why people aren't so high on DA (or any QB on this team right now)

I tend to be a positive minded person but I am also grounded in reality,
I have watched this team for forty years and im tired of maybe's,I want to know.
You cannot look at DA or any player for that matter without considering their entire body of work so "forgetting" isnt an option.
Quinn was drafted in the first round and so far is a bust.
Nobody will say that about a sixth round castoff from the ravens who had a good season for us in 2007,and then crumbled when it meant the most, ok im being bitter and he is a rookie, fair enough,
Fast forward 2008,do we need to discuss 2008?
Fast forward to 2009 he again failed to win the job in camp {or maybe it was just a Lerner conspiracy, ask lums} when Mangin felt he had seen enough of Quinn and he pulled him for DA.
Lets talk about that ravens game,
What was it that you saw that I didnt?
Triple coverage,no short game, bad decisions 3 picks imobile.............
These are the continuing traits of a loser,he cant get better your lucky you saw what you did in 2007.
Tomorrow he gets to play cinci who if I remember correctly caught more passes from him than our guys did and they havent let anything near what happened to them the first game ever again nor has the other 30 teams in this league.
Your wishing for something that isnt there,Its ok as a fan if you want to cheer him on but im sorry I dont forget and we need to move forward.
the only reason you reach into the past is to try to drive an agenda IMO danamal. there is really no need to mention when a guy got drafted right now and it says more about scouts and a team's evaluators of talent really. projecting college players into the pros is difficult and draft position is NOT gospel regarding how a player will do in the NFL. while there are always coincidences it's really useless concerning what we are discussing and irrelevant regarding tomorrow.
we have seen nothing from Anderson THIS year apart from entering a game vs the Ravens under very unique circumstances, and we saw DA play EXACTLY how he always does when the Browns are coming from behind by several scores. it has always ended up being live by the pass, die by the pass with him in those situations. furthermore, unless you can successfully predict they will fall behind by a lot tomorrow it has little bearing on how well he will do in all honesty.
you just LOVE to cite how in one outing he threw 4 picks against the Bengals on an extremely windy day yet ignore he's actually 2-1 vs them all time.
you are also putting some kind of imaginary weight for your argument based upon what the staff saw in camp regarding the QB competition or the limited preseason action where he actually tore the shit out of the Lions in a game i attended before i moved to Denver. this also supports nothing of real value in favor of BQ.
now i won't sit here and say politics were involved in the QB competition or make excuses but the fact seemed to be they were so close it was hard to call and the FO needed to really find out what they had in Quinn during the regular season...and so did the fans. i believe the fans would only accept the truth if they saw it with their own eyes and saw it we did...but some of us just won't accept reality.
this should have never been a BQ vs DA thing but more of a "who's better" on the field on Sundays and interceptions or not, Anderson is miles ahead of where Quinn is today. we may disagree on the harm of throwing picks and while i readily admit they are horribly counterproductive in many ways, like tiring the defense for example, they are not the end all be all.
whether it's Quinn's lack of confidence in his long ball due to knowing he has an inability to be accurate or just being unable to see when the play is there, the guy is very leary of pulling the trigger deep. when he has he's also been known to throw into triple coverage as well>>>this is NOT something only restricted to DA. either way this makes him especially inept and leaves the offense literally impotent when he's at the helm. the number of times a year a receiver is wide open in single coverage can usually be counted on one hand and relying on that situation as the only time a QB will risk taking a shot ain't gonna get it done in todays NFL that's for sure.
Anderson will no doubt take some calculated risks but as the old adage goes: it's better to have loved and lost than to have never have loved at all. so at least for this year, as far as QB is concerned, there is really only one option for this team to have any success and that guy is without a doubt Derek Anderson.

It was a fumble by DA, not a pick.well you're right about the pick, it wasn't him it was Dorsey the imposter. i now recall clearly it was the play where Shaffer ended DA's season with his helmet, preceeding his self-described "booing", which i had selectively forgotten about. i watched it repeatedly last season and sometimes these things all blend together.
i am apparently confusing games though, certainly not QB's. any idea which game i was confusing it with? Texans perhaps? regardless, the actual occurrence in the game actually strengthens the citing of the Colts game as a strong performance. what i do remember clearly is how well he played in that game overall, even if i did confuse the particulars late in the game.
I haven't seen his short game being obviously better. It didn't show in pre-season and there wasn't a lot of it in those 2 QTRs against BALT this past week.
considering he was never asked to even do it much until the pros, and how he had no touch at all in his first couple years in the league, the way he throws it now is leaps and bounds from where he was when he first got to Cleveland. you only need to see it once or twice now to notice, and if it's not obvious to you then you must not have realized how absolutely horrid he was at it when he first got here. he even did it on the run better than he used to, and he actually looks comfortable doing it.
-
gotcha. i pretty much agree with what you wrote there danamal. and DA gets no pass. certainly not here, not in the stands, not in the media, and not in the press conferences>>>nor should he.
i agree DA isn't the Browns franchise QB and we need to find one-fast.
it is a real shame Quinn hasn't lived up to his billing. i wanted to believe, i really did. but focusing on him for the past three years give or take have...well, had us focused on him for three years.

while i look forward to finding the franchise QB of the future there is a very distinct possibility we may focus on the next attempt for another three years...and he may not end up being "the guy" either. that's my real fear.
so, while DA has some definite drawbacks i am at least willing to bear with him and his affinity to be Santa Claus for the opposing defenses, at least until they sign someone who is clearly head and shoulders above him. in the meantime hopefully the fanbase can unite behind him until we can find a much better option. and if he can just temper his impetuousness we just might be able to win some along the way. cheers.
