Cradle of Coaches

  • There’s a documentary coming out about the Cradle of Coaches, a nickname given to Miami U and their track record of cranking out powerhouse football coaches. I’m of course referring to the Miami University that was a school when Florida was still owned by Spain.

Paul Brown, Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Weeb Eubank, John Harbaugh, Sean McVay, you get it. It’s an impressive list that stays relevant, especially for a school that hasn’t had an impressive football team since the Roethlisberger year. Hardest name to spell in pro sports. He’s apparently in the documentery.

LSU’s football program was dogshit until Miami alum Paul Dietzel got there in 1955. He won their first Natty. He’s covered in this documentary.

I heard an interview today from the duo that spearheaded the documentary. Apparently Sean McVay has a strict “no more than 20 minutes interview” policy, but he broke it for this. Such is the power of a bunch of red brick buildings.

It premiers on Peacock this month. Peacock is a funny name for a streaming channel. It has Psych though, and l like Psych.

Roethlisberger played for the University of Miami, Florida, bigly.

    Sincerely and Confidently,

  • John Carroll has an impressive list of coaches/front office guys too for a program that plays at a low level too.

  • I’ll be looking for it. Peacock is the only streaming service I subscribe to. Being a fan of the Premier League, it is a must

  • My late Uncle played for Miami at the same time as Bo Shembechler, said Bo never really was well-liked by team mates, but he was a good player.

It is truly amazing the influence Paul Brown had on football. A true innovator and teacher.

Take a peek at the State of Ohio in general in regards to coaching talent. Between coaches that got their start or spent a great deal of their more formative years at schools within the state, it's a truly impressive list.

    Agree.

Lamar Hunt even has a trophy, mainly because he founded the AFL & coined the "Super Bowl."

It took the NFL over 80 years to acknowledge the AFC in their records. My hunch is Paul Brown pissed the higher ups off, like Albert Belle.

Coach Brown was a stoic figure

Paul Brown probably wasn't chasing down trick-or-treaters in his truck.
