Who do you think our starting QB will be?

I truly believe after yesterday's horrible press conference, the Browns will cut Watson.
What a tone-deaf jackass.
"God put me in these positions to make me stronger?"
"It's personal," regarding the boos.
Move on Browns. He's not welcome here.....probably not anywhere.
I just came over here to basically post what you wrote.
After yesterday, the Browns would be absolutely insane to start him.
Cleveland is done with him. He's done with Cleveland.
Not only is it personal for him, it is obviously in his head how much he's hated here.
When Jimmy described the trade as a "swing and a miss" Watson should have officially never been an option to see the field again, but the Browns gotta Browns and they talked themselves into the idea of once again trying to force feed Watson being the Browns starting QB. And as fragile physically Watson is, he's even worse mentally IMO at this point.
Take your lumps with Sanders - the other QB who is not going to be in the Browns future - in 2026. Draft a QB with your first pick next draft, for the love of everything holy obtain a veteran QB who is a professional to pair with him, and move on towards Brookpark.
This season is going to be rough.

IMHO Sanders is easy to root for.
My optimism isn't ultra high either,it's not a playoff team, but I'm certain the team will improve as the season goes on. Youngest team in the NFL.

There's some talent on this team, and there's some more potential talent on this team. I can't say the rookies are "talent" yet before they play one down of NFL regular season ball, but...
The Browns are going to draft a QB in the next draft. I think they won't even have to trade up for one, I think someone or multiple someones if the QB class is as good as some think it will be will fall right into their laps.
And that someone is going to come to a team with Spencer Fano somewhere on the OLine, receiver targets like Fannin, Concepcion and Boston to throw to, Judkins and Sampson behind him to hand off to. Whoever the young QB is, he will be surrounded by young talent. I believe the Browns need to keep investing via the draft for the OLine, but the cupboards in the offensive pantry will not be bare.
But the current QB room is among the worst - if not the worst - in the NFL. I can't see how this team even scores 20 points a game. I'm not asking for middle-of-the-road, I'm just asking for 20 points a game. I can't see that happening.
And I think the defense will probably slide towards the middle-of-the-pack. I see them struggling to get consistent pressure, putting extra pressure on a very thin cornerback room. Dog help us if one of our starters goes down for any kind of extended time.

should we trade for a vet qb now to back up our rookie qb we get from next years draft. and more than likely need one to start this year,#4 can be cut at any time the money will be the same, the only difference is if we wait untill after next june 1st the money will be spread out longer. I say fuck it. cut his ass tomorrow

I agree - after hearing that he bitched about the fans booing him in the past, etc, it seems he would love to be
cut. He already has his money. Watch for him to get hurt again.
Sign a veteran. I like to root for Sanders, but it seems he tends to be late on decisions. The rest of the offense talent is hugely upgraded.

which is why Monken should name Sanders starting QB now. the Oline needs time to gel and get used to his cadence . Just let the dude roll with the ones. the start of the season is right around the corner , what vet could we get ? well the sooner the better for all the right reasons

While I'm wishing, I'd like Jennifer Lawrence to come over with a big seafood dinner, feed it to me, then ask me to wrestle naked with her.
At this point in my long life I'd settle for any Jennifer. Or even my wife. LOL!
I'd settle for any Jennifer

I'll even concede I may have over valued this team... I was thinking playoffs were possible.. But after what I watched the past two weeks I'm not so sure... There isn't one QB on this Roster I have complete confidence in.. I like a lot of the parts... I keep telling myself it's just preseason. Listening to Monkens presser this morning... I get the sense he's a bit disappointed as well. Let's hope the dress rehearsal yields a better result...

There's a good amount of young talent on this team to get excited about. Pieces to build around. Like I said before, whoever the Browns draft as QB next draft will have guys like Fannin, Concepcion, Boston, Judkins, Sampson, etc to play with for years to come. It's not like the kid will be walking into a barren wasteland of talent around him. That makes me happy.
But at the most important position in sports, the Browns are bad. Possibly really bad this season. There's even more talent on defense - and generally it's more experienced than the offensive talent, but the DE spot is thin, thinner now with Wright out for the season, and CB beyond the starters is weak. So we're probably going to struggle rushing the passer, exposing a thin CB unit even more. Dog help us if Ward or Tyson suffer an injury that knocks them out for an extended time.
The whole team is pretty thin, and this has been shown in spades the first two exhibition games. Our backups have been smacked around like they stole something.
Monken needs to set the precedent now that the shenanigans are over and a new era of Browns history has begun. Starting Watson is not the way to do this. If he's starting during the third game (home opener), it's going to be ugly, setting up a Players vs Fans situation right from the jump of his head coaching time in Cleveland. A situation he can avoid.

Browns to Announce QB1 Monday
If he selects Watson, I'm writing him off immediately.

I'm not trying to be Mr. Negative but this comes off like he's trying to get ahead of the situation. I'd say he's leaning toward Watson.
Also, I know Monken has to do the "coach speak" thing and defend his players a majority of the time but c'mon man. Emptying his heart? He knows why he's getting booed. For his on the field performance and what he did off the field.

I can't argue 1 iota on anything you said.. I think we all see eye to eye... If CJ Carr is in our reach... Pull the trigger man.. Him or Sayin Jack me... Arch does nothing for me... I'd settle for the home kid Moore.. But Carr for me is the ticket!

If the San Diego Chargers weren't good enough for Eli, there isn't a chance in hell the Mannings would allow Arch to go to the Browns, unless Jimmy has incriminating photos of one of them doing unspeakable things to livestock.
And here's the sad part.... even if the Browns are able to get them a top-flight QB in next year's draft, I have zero confidence they'll be able to put him in a position to succeed. They'll start him too early, they'll have him with a new OC every year or two, he'll predictably struggle, and so on.

I blame the entire front office for ever allowing this to be an option for Monken.
Someone with just a iota of intelligence should have stepped in and said:
"In no way, shape or form are we going to allow Watson to be the starter. We are trying to move on from this "swing and a miss", we don't need to reopen this wound. We are trying to sell PSLs to our new dome in Brookpark. We are not going to allow a situation where the fans are forced to watch Watson and put them in a position where it could get real ugly. They will unload on him. The players will get pissed because they'll naturally have their fellow player's back and an ugly situation will unfold. We have one more year and then we can walk away. We aren't winning with either of them, might as well go with the kid who has a future and is relatively well-liked."
But nope, the most tone-deaf organization in pro sports just keep pretending they didn't welcome in a complete PR disaster, and can't help themselves. And Monken is apparently too hard-headed to see what he's going to unleash on the rest of the team, so he'll stick with the guy who is somehow even more fragile mentally than he is physically - and he's made of glass at this point.
I would describe this whole situation as unbelievable, but this owner also dove head-first into the Johnny Manziel world willingly.

Is he really?! Dang! We'll be looking for DE after cuts that's for sure.
So, we've seen both QB's do OK with better players around them and both struggle with the bottom of the roster guys.
Todd's naming the QB tomorrow. Does Watson's toxic relationship with the fans move the needle enough to push him to the bench? We know that Sanders has appreciated Watson's help since he was drafted. My understanding is that the players and coaches don't dislike Watson.
I'm going with Watson being named the starter because the team spends the first two weeks of the season in Florida...away from the hostile home fans. This buys Monken two weeks to evaluate the veteran. Depending on how things go down there he could decide to switch to Sanders for the home opener.
NOW, if Sanders is named the starter, then we have our veteran backup QB for the season.

I'm guessing that watson will be named because if he could just do something to look
like another team would give them a 7th round pick for him, they could make a trade and try to save face
over the entire debacle.

โDeshaun is gonna start against Jacksonville. Took in the full body of work over the course of offseason to training camp to the games to joint practice. It ultimately felt like, to start the season on the road, Deshaun gave us the best chance to move the ball and score points. Thatโs really what itโs about. Felt that way going into the last game, but wasnโt sure. After we relooked at everything, weโre going to go that direction,โ Monken said.
...he even mentioned the 'being on the road' thing.
