I agree - after hearing that he bitched about the fans booing him in the past, etc, it seems he would love to be

cut. He already has his money. Watch for him to get hurt again.

Sign a veteran. I like to root for Sanders, but it seems he tends to be late on decisions. The rest of the offense talent is hugely upgraded.

They need to sign another qb.

which is why Monken should name Sanders starting QB now. the Oline needs time to gel and get used to his cadence . Just let the dude roll with the ones. the start of the season is right around the corner , what vet could we get ? well the sooner the better for all the right reasons

Ari Meirov@MySportsUpdate#Browns HC Todd Monken says he will name a starting QB for Week 1 on Monday. It will be either Deshaun Watson or Sheduer Sanders.

I'm not trying to be Mr. Negative but this comes off like he's trying to get ahead of the situation. I'd say he's leaning toward Watson.

Also, I know Monken has to do the "coach speak" thing and defend his players a majority of the time but c'mon man. Emptying his heart? He knows why he's getting booed. For his on the field performance and what he did off the field.

I'll even concede I may have over valued this team... I was thinking playoffs were possible.. But after what I watched the past two weeks I'm not so sure... There isn't one QB on this Roster I have complete confidence in.. I like a lot of the parts... I keep telling myself it's just preseason. Listening to Monkens presser this morning... I get the sense he's a bit disappointed as well. Let's hope the dress rehearsal yields a better result...

There's a good amount of young talent on this team to get excited about. Pieces to build around. Like I said before, whoever the Browns draft as QB next draft will have guys like Fannin, Concepcion, Boston, Judkins, Sampson, etc to play with for years to come. It's not like the kid will be walking into a barren wasteland of talent around him. That makes me happy.

But at the most important position in sports, the Browns are bad. Possibly really bad this season. There's even more talent on defense - and generally it's more experienced than the offensive talent, but the DE spot is thin, thinner now with Wright out for the season, and CB beyond the starters is weak. So we're probably going to struggle rushing the passer, exposing a thin CB unit even more. Dog help us if Ward or Tyson suffer an injury that knocks them out for an extended time.

The whole team is pretty thin, and this has been shown in spades the first two exhibition games. Our backups have been smacked around like they stole something.

Monken needs to set the precedent now that the shenanigans are over and a new era of Browns history has begun. Starting Watson is not the way to do this. If he's starting during the third game (home opener), it's going to be ugly, setting up a Players vs Fans situation right from the jump of his head coaching time in Cleveland. A situation he can avoid.

I can't argue 1 iota on anything you said.. I think we all see eye to eye... If CJ Carr is in our reach... Pull the trigger man.. Him or Sayin Jack me... Arch does nothing for me... I'd settle for the home kid Moore.. But Carr for me is the ticket!

If the San Diego Chargers weren't good enough for Eli, there isn't a chance in hell the Mannings would allow Arch to go to the Browns, unless Jimmy has incriminating photos of one of them doing unspeakable things to livestock.

And here's the sad part.... even if the Browns are able to get them a top-flight QB in next year's draft, I have zero confidence they'll be able to put him in a position to succeed. They'll start him too early, they'll have him with a new OC every year or two, he'll predictably struggle, and so on.

I blame the entire front office for ever allowing this to be an option for Monken.

Someone with just a iota of intelligence should have stepped in and said:

"In no way, shape or form are we going to allow Watson to be the starter. We are trying to move on from this "swing and a miss", we don't need to reopen this wound. We are trying to sell PSLs to our new dome in Brookpark. We are not going to allow a situation where the fans are forced to watch Watson and put them in a position where it could get real ugly. They will unload on him. The players will get pissed because they'll naturally have their fellow player's back and an ugly situation will unfold. We have one more year and then we can walk away. We aren't winning with either of them, might as well go with the kid who has a future and is relatively well-liked."

But nope, the most tone-deaf organization in pro sports just keep pretending they didn't welcome in a complete PR disaster, and can't help themselves. And Monken is apparently too hard-headed to see what he's going to unleash on the rest of the team, so he'll stick with the guy who is somehow even more fragile mentally than he is physically - and he's made of glass at this point.

I would describe this whole situation as unbelievable, but this owner also dove head-first into the Johnny Manziel world willingly.

Is he really?! Dang! We'll be looking for DE after cuts that's for sure.

So, we've seen both QB's do OK with better players around them and both struggle with the bottom of the roster guys.

Todd's naming the QB tomorrow. Does Watson's toxic relationship with the fans move the needle enough to push him to the bench? We know that Sanders has appreciated Watson's help since he was drafted. My understanding is that the players and coaches don't dislike Watson.

I'm going with Watson being named the starter because the team spends the first two weeks of the season in Florida...away from the hostile home fans. This buys Monken two weeks to evaluate the veteran. Depending on how things go down there he could decide to switch to Sanders for the home opener.

NOW, if Sanders is named the starter, then we have our veteran backup QB for the season.

I'm guessing that watson will be named because if he could just do something to look

like another team would give them a 7th round pick for him, they could make a trade and try to save face

    over the entire debacle.

  • “Deshaun is gonna start against Jacksonville. Took in the full body of work over the course of offseason to training camp to the games to joint practice. It ultimately felt like, to start the season on the road, Deshaun gave us the best chance to move the ball and score points. That’s really what it’s about. Felt that way going into the last game, but wasn’t sure. After we relooked at everything, we’re going to go that direction,” Monken said.

...he even mentioned the 'being on the road' thing.

  • Ok, well I was wrong on them cutting DW loose.

How in the bleep did this Jimmy Haslam become a billionaire? He's so effing dumb.

Watson shits on the fan base Saturday. Haslam shits on us Monday.

Life as a Browns fan, how peachy?

    Jimmy is a nepo baby.

He's one of those dipshits born on third base who thinks he hit a triple. And because he has money, there will people who will kiss his ass and tell him how brilliant he is.

Reminds me of another high profile person, honestly.

They will end up paying him over $230 mill over five years. They gave up three first rounders, a third rounder and two fourth rounders for him too.

If you think that in some universe flipping that for a seventh rounder somehow "saves face" in even the slightest way, you are even dumber than I've always suspected.

  • The Browns first home game is Sunday, September 27th vs the Panthers.

I'm guessing they'll go into the game 0-2, and it is going to be ugly if Watson is still starting.

I have a feeling Browns fans will be the topic of national sports conversation that night. I wish I was going to the game to witness it in all it's glory.

Somewhere in one of the sports TV shows they explained how much costlier it will be in terms of the cap than to just cut him than to let him play out the last year of his contract. None of that shit makes a bit of sense to me, but maybe someone who understands it all could explain it.

I'm with you, this business side of the NFL salary cap isn't "fun to learn." We're all just (angry, confused) fans.

It's really really hard to give the Browns any credit at all for kicking the DW salary down the road, perhaps this was the only way to get it done.

Me, I look at it in football sense. They drafted 3 QBs in 2 years and choose to bench them all in favor of this "veteran" who is polarizing as hell.

We're all tired of the "tanking." Tired of the mismanagement.

It's supposed to be " Pro Football," instead it's an accounting firm. WTF.
