The Official Browns at Jaguars Game 1 Thread

The Browns Board

  • Brand new O LIne. Brand new rookie WRs, a DC who doesn’t know when to call man coverage vs when to call zone, a QB who hasn’t played in 3 years, and a defense adjusting to losing Myles Garrett…. Vs a Jaguars team who will certainly makes the playoffs…

if any browns fans are bummed after that, I do not know what to tell them.

  • The Todd Monken Era begins.

Deshaun Watson is lifetime 7-0 vs Jacksonville.

    Your math skills are impeccable

  • so ya , monken took the job for a paycheck, gotta pad that retirement

Browns coach Todd Monken said he didn't feel like Deshaun Watson was playing tentatively today. "I did not see that today. He let that ball rip that was an interception. He let it rip. He just didn't see him or the defender made a great play on it. I thought he started the game great. ... And some of the throws at the end of the game, at the end of the game he was not tentative. He made some good throws towards the end when we gave him time, and we had opportunities to get it down the field. We never got into a rhythm."

    I know, right?

  • well, I watched the game - on record - long enough for the dirtbag qb to throw a very, very stupid int.

Right there, it was going to be a disaster of worst expectations.

Meanwhile, Josh Allen got me 39.66 points in the Phil Dawson league.

wow. I'm glad I missed all the pitiful qb'ing.

    **************************************

from Yahoo fantasy football - (btw, I don't believe anyone drafted him in either league.....)

Advice: Watson added six carries for 38 yards on the ground. The Browns had a lethargic offense for the most part in Week 1, plagued by several delay-of-games and a variety of other penalties. The box score reads just one turnover for Watson, but there were many other opportunities. His interception occurred in Jaguars territory on the Browns’ first drive of the game. Watson then threw an interception that was dropped on the second drive, and fumbled twice; one was recovered by the Browns and he was just barely ruled down on the second. The Browns were finally able to score a touchdown on a 46-yard throw from Watson to rookie Denzel Boston with the game out of reach in the fourth quarter. The Browns offense with Watson at the helm is ultimately turnover-prone and lethargic but has room for fantasy production in negative game script situations. Watson is a fantasy QB3 heading into Week 2 against the Buccaneers.

  • The browns finally did it. I suffered through 32 years of disasters since 1994 when I was 14 years years old - essentially the last year of the franchise that is now the Ravens. I managed to suffer all those years and maintain a fandom but I just cant be bothered to actually care anymore. I dont see where they're going and I don't even care. Maybe one day they'll get their shit together, but as for now I'm much happier just watching the national games because I do love football.

  • "THEY ARE WHO WE (I)THOUGHT THEY WERE".

Guys, I've been a Browns fan for 70 years of my life. I finally learned to not get emotionally involved in Browns wins or losses- the losses will be many this year. Can we have another 0-17 parade? Really glad I dumped my season tickets. That performance today can only be described as a CLOWN SHOW. Horrible in every way. I've seen enough great qb play after just one game to say Watson SUCKS. Unless by some miracle- I can say this guys is the most overpaid bum in the NFL. washed up more than a beached whale. Told the guys everyone should do a shot for every interception Watson threw. Didn't take long, did it? Didn't help that the defense played like crap either. Penalties galore. I actually dozed off the end of the 4th quarter. ?

See my post- I've suffered much longer than you. My wife's family is from Toledo, so I'm now rooting for the Lions.

  • Watson's QB play makes me long for the heady days of Brady Quinn and Charlie Frye

Her name isn't Laurie is it? A 10 grade girlfriend of that name moved to Toledo. Oh wait, she's in Dallas now twice divorced.

    Never mind.?

  • Mostly, Lawrence had the time he needed to find a receiver. That being the case, it would have to have been a shoot-out. We were ill equipped for that. I'm sure that there were LOTS of plays where we had 8 guys in the offensive huddle that had never played together before. Including the entire OL.

Penalties. We had just got solidly into their side of the field.....and then we steadily 'penalty marched' ourselves to a 1st and 30 situation. That's practically taking points off the board. (again, a whole new OL...with one starter unable to suit up due to injury)

We also made a coaching error when we failed to call a time out from the sidelines on a 3rd and 2 from near their goal line resulting in a delay of game.

This game outcome should not be a surprise to us. We knew that the D was going to take a step backwards because we weren't going to be able to pressure the QB so well. (that's huge in the NFL) We knew that three quarters of our starting offense have never played together before...and that four of those starters had never played in the NFL before (rookies). And we knew that our QB had years of rust to shake off and work through. (and in reality, Watson's stat line for the game was not bad. He was even our leading rusher)

It's one game. New coaches, new players, new playbooks. We'll now be wanting to see a little bit of improvement against Tampa Bay next week.

    • It was good to see Boston haul in that long ball in the end zone...and control it all the way to the ground and beyond. To Infinity, And Beyond!

  • I’m the same as a lot of you. Been a fan for 50+years. Had season tickets for 19 years. I DON’T CARE ANYMORE. I fully expect them to be the first team to go 0-17. And They will screw up the draft and the owner won’t care. He’s a billionaire LOSER.

That's just not true. The Haslams want the team to be successful in the worst way. They really do. You can dislike them if you want. Heck, I do. I don't like Jimmy. But I don't doubt at all that he wants his Browns to be winners. He wants the respect that comes from being the owner of a perennial winning franchise. And not the respect that comes from your business being raided for cheating customers. But since it's the latter that is his claim to fame he tries to make his team be successful. And he's just no good at that.

It is an inherent contradiction to want your team to be good with 2026 Watson as QB

Unless you have the QB room that we have. And the HC is telling you, As much as we may want Sanders to be the starter, he's just not as good as Watson. That's where we're at. And I don't want Haslam telling Monken who to play. We've got to let this season play out and then attack the QB position next April. (if it turns out that that's what's needed...and so far, in the early going, it looks like that's what's needed)

We may as well lose with Gabriel, Sanders and Greene. Then it becomes abundantly clear who to draft or trade. Unless you are certain that they are worthless as starters, you may as well play them. With Watson starting, the issue is in doubt.
