The MYTH of the BIg Ten being weaker and slower EXPOSED
-
Yes.
Big 10 teams aren't flashy, and are willing to travel. They play in crappy weather.
The SEC is indeed tough, but when you never go north of Kentucky or west of Arkansas to play a game, you are strictly a regional team, and usually play in pristine conditions.
Look at this both of you:
BCS national championship games
In 2006, Florida-41 Ohio state-14
In 2007, LSU-38 Ohio State-24
In 2008, Florida-24 Oklahoma-14
In 2009, Alabama-? Texas?
Sure Ohio state has gotten to the "big game" but they haven't been able to win it.
SEC has won it the last 3 straight years going for 4.

The first problem with your comparison sample is the time frame and also the teams.... the second is you are equating BCS championships as some sort of division strength metric......
The BCS national championship game on who gets to play in it is a joke.
Two comparing THE ENTIRE DIVISION not singular instances requres a much larger total sample which you can measure in head to head division bowl games versus each other......
Seriously you think because the SEC by popular opinion voting in ONE bowl game over the last 3 years has won it suddenly defines their entire Division.... To be completely fair in 2007 (which was a rebuilding year for us) we were a top 10 team not top 3.... and we could have won that game. In 2006 we were OUTCOACHED..... it happens.
Really your position is so narrow and small in sample it really does not hold much water when you are talking about entire division strengths.
POPULAR opinion said we were going to get blown out tonight..... how did that work out?

Texas shouldn't be in it anyhow this year, they put time back on the clock for them in their Big 12 Championship game (just like USSR vs USA in 1972 Olympics).
2002...OSU ends Miami's 34 game winning streak, wins BCS National title, just in case you forgot.
2006- yes OSU lays an egg vs. Florida, a horrible performance after a great regular season
2007- another bad loss by OSU, but I say we weren't supposed to be there anyhow, we got there because evrybody else lost...doesn't diminish a lost opportunity, I know
Mark May & ESPN have basically rammed their opinions of OSU & the Big 10 down everybody's throat for quite some time now, and people are starting to believe him/them. The Big 10 almost swept today, too bad Northwestern's kicker had a bad day.
Look at it this way- who has been the most consistent contestant in BCS games since all this started? THE OSU.

It is hard to compare all the divisions. Any given day you will win or lose in any of them. I will admit that lately the SEC has had some great teams. But the big ten is not the MAC remember that. The Big Ten has some stiff competion and just like every Bowl Division they have their up years and down years.
-
As I have said many times...it isn't the top of the Big Ten that lacks....it is the bottom. You judge a league by how weak they are at the bottom v how strong they are at the top.
-
The whole BCS system is flawed. But even if you get passed that and look at each BCS bowl games, you see that the Big Ten almost always has to play an away game, while their opponent has a home game. USC in the rose bowl is a home game for them. No wonder they win it virtually every year(Note: ohio state wins it this year over oregon as both teams play at a neutral location). How about we move that game to Ohio or Illinois and see how that turns out? Another example was a couple years back when Ohio state went to Louisiana to play for a championship against who? LSU... go figure.. Until the BCS games are played on a NEUTRAL field, the big ten will always be at a disadvantage..

That Penn State game was a joke

They're lucky it wasn't USC? You mean the same USC team that Oregon scored 50+ points on. The same Oregon team that Ohio State held to 17 points tonight?
Ohio State just beat up on the best team in the pac ten..holding them to half their normal scoring average. Tremdous game by the OSU defense and a great game by Pryor leading the offense.

-
So what...that was a long time ago. USC lost 3 times in conference and lost their chance for the rose bowl when they gave up like 500 points to Stanford and Oregon. So I guess in your pea brain...USC is the rose bowl champ because they beat OSU early in the season?

I am saying the big ten is not that good. USC, Stanford would have hammered them..Penn State is not that good either. It is a marginal weak conference. Boise or TCU would hammer either of them
you seriously have no life but to troll, I wasn't home yesterday because I was at a new years party, but then today I woke up, and I check the board, and I see that you post a thread saying "it's 2010 and browns still have no championships", good to know that you have nothing to do in your life but to to troll a Cleveland Browns board on new years, moron.

USC had the chance to "hammer them" as you put it...and scored a last minute TD to win the game. The difference between the two teams is that OSU got better as the season went on and USC got worse.
-
-
wins are wins chachi....who cares if they "squeezed past" anyone.
You said USC would "hammer" OSU...but when they had the chance to do that, they barely won the game. OSU got better from that point on in the season and USC got worse, losing 4 games in conference play, several times getting the crap beat out of them in embarrassing fashion.
Ohio State just beat the best team in the pac 10....deal with it.
-
Ohio State squeezed past Navy, lost to USC, lost to Purdue, took ovetime to beat Iowa.
not that good but hey the Bucks won and I will give them credit. I rooted for them today!
-
I think it's the same reasoning that had Montana or Idaho as the national champs a few years back because it could be figured out that someone beat someone and they beat someone else who beat someone else and on and on until the only team who hadn't lost to someone was Idaho or Montana or some other such nonsense school.
I understand that OSU lost to USC early..but Ohio State went on to have a very good season after that. USC lost FOUR times after that game and only Oregon is playing in a BCS game. Ohio State played a shitty game and lost to Purdue but went on to beat Iowa (who is playing in a BCS game). How many pac 10 teams are playing BCS games this year?? And USC lost how many conference games?

I, for one, feel good for the Big Ten fans. Usually they have to rush to get these posts out before bowl season starts; this year it actually holds true after the first Saturday of the bowl season.
