Question on fan loyalty

I think there are a lot of young bengals fans in columbus because the browns have been bad or missing for a while. If the browns routinely kick the Bengals butts many of them will switch over

If they did that then they would be FRAKs, (FrontRunnerAssKissers). And honestly, that is about as despicable as it gets. There is only one thing I have seen on these boards that is perhaps more despicable. I will show that to you in a thread that I will update here.

I can tell you from my time in columbus that most people I met there were Browns fans. They local station play the Browns most of the time on Sundays.
And LA is the Raiders all the way! No question.

Yea Columbus is mostly Browns with the occasional Bengal fan here and there. I lived in Westerville, Ohio for a year and saw mostly Browns. My gf is from Delaware, Ohio and it's mostly Browns. Delaware is about 30 min outside of Columbus.

Of course Ohio State is the Big Kahuna in C-Bus. Do know there was serious bitching last year with the Bengals up and the Browns down, Columbus TV opted to show Bengals games (they have a choice) but read on.
Though Dayton is only 50 miles North of Cincinnati, it's still about 40% Browns fans, and if it was 25 mile farther North outside of the NFL TV market Bungle "death zone", the percentage would be a lot higher. Yup, draw a line 10 miles north of Columbus, and it's Browns country- Lima is about all Browns fans. The only exception is when you get all the way up to Toledo there's still a fair percentage of long suffering Lions fans.
As far as the Carolinas are concerned, my sister in law grew up outside of Raleigh, and the Old Guard are all Redskins fans. There has been some switching of allegiance to the Panthers though- especially if you're on the western side of the state. If you've ever driven it, it's a long way from Wilmington to Charlotte.

In a post on another thread I noted that the following list are the largest "designated markets" in the US that do NOT have an NFL team located in them. My question on these cities is what NFL team does the populace of each of these towns primarily root for if anyone here can tell us? The number at the beginning is their market rank:
#2 Los Angeles.....is this an open city? or do they follow the Chargers? Raiders? who?
#19 Orlando.....Bucs? Dolphins? Jags?
#20 Sacramento....Raiders seem a natural, or do the 49ers trump them?
#22 Portland....Seahawks seem a natural, true?
#26 Raleigh....Panthers seem a natural, true?
#30 Hartford....Pats since this town is in New England? Or one of the NYC teams?
#31 Salt Lake City...Broncos? or Arizona?
#34 Columbus....Browns or Bengals?
#35 Milwaukee....though closer to Chicago, I know for a fact this is Packer land
#36 Greenville/Spartanburg S.C....about halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte, which team?
#37 San Antonio...you would think they would trend toward Houston, but I know from being there recently that it is Cowboy country.
#38 West Palm Beach....I would think the Dolphins a no brainer here.
#39 Harrisburgh....I would think Eagles, but this town is actually closer to Baltimore, plus there may be some Stiller spillover?

LA is a transient town, so I would think many follow whoever they followed as kids and young adults.
#19 Orlando.....Bucs? Dolphins? Jags?
Probably a combination of the three
#20 Sacramento....Raiders seem a natural, or do the 49ers trump them?
??
#22 Portland....Seahawks seem a natural, true?
T
#26 Raleigh....Panthers seem a natural, true?
T
#30 Hartford....Pats since this town is in New England? Or one of the NYC teams?
Probably a mix
#31 Salt Lake City...Broncos? or Arizona?
I would think mostly Denver
#34 Columbus....Browns or Bengals?
By the complaining i read about which game will be on TV, I am going to say Cincy, and Cincy is probably 70 miles closer
#35 Milwaukee....though closer to Chicago, I know for a fact this is Packer land
The Packers played home games in Milwaukee for many years
#36 Greenville/Spartanburg S.C....about halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte, which team?
I would say Atl by a fairly good margin
#37 San Antonio...you would think they would trend toward Houston, but I know from being there recently that it is Cowboy country.
Other than Houston, i think the Cowboys hold most of the hearts in Texas
#38 West Palm Beach....I would think the Dolphins a no brainer here.
Why ask??
#39 Harrisburgh....I would think Eagles, but this town is actually closer to Baltimore, plus there may be some Stiller spillover?
Balt. may have been in the mix when the Colts were in town....I think it would mostly be Philly

I know in Orlando that its common to find fans for all of the 3 Florida teams. They usually always broadcast the Bucs and Jags games, with a couple Dolphins games too.

That is my impression from my visits.
Florida is another transient state.....you find fans from everywhere.

My cousin lives in Greenville, and I live a couple hours away. It's Carolina if it's anything. It seems there's more Shittsburgh fans in the South than anything else, though- which sucks.
Like most of my family, the bastards.

I agree but in the cast of teenagers and younger they might not have fully made up their mind yet. If the browns turn the tide in the division and some switch I would hope it was for good.

I been in every state in the Union on a motorcycle and spend a lot of sundays in sports bars all over America. By the way you spelled Harrisburg wrong. And sorry to say you will hate my answer. No matter where I go the Steelers have either the biggest or second biggest following in every place I have been.
So the answer is simple the Pittsburgh Steelers have more fans than any other team.........and that is easy to see that no matter where they play "terrible towels" are obvious.
Years back we had that mantra.......but twenty years of pathetic football preceded by 15 out twenty some years of pathetic football................have erased "the Storied History of the Cleveland Browns"........when once all the world was Browns Town
The best thing Cleveland fans can do is admit that this post says it correct............and be committed to demand the new management keeps moving forward instead of like the fan base did previously salute a bunch of buffoons.............and their buffoon decisions
and worse like ever other response to this thread ignored the obvious...........The Steelers.......denial is disease which cannot solve problems
Go Browns

No.....Rich is a true Browns fan.
You may not agree with him, but don't think he isn't a fan.
I agree with him. I go in to quite a few different places to watch games, and next to the home team, Steeler fans are always the largest group.
Now whether or not they are "real' fans, or bandwagon fans who like to wear black and gold or just follow a winner like many Laker fans have never been near California, I don't know.

By his own admission and fanboy homerism over on Steeler forums he isn't. Sorry dude, you can't be a Browns AND Steelers fan. That is like proclaiming you're a Conservative Al Queda Patriot.Besides check the links, he fully admits he follows whichever team is winning and jumps off the Browns bandwagon for piss&black whenever they're not winning games. That's not a true fan, it's a spineless bandwagon fan.
Sorry, I disagree. I like the Steelers just fine. I have rooted for them in every Super Bowl in which they have played.
I don't have this twisted view that since I am a Browns fan I have to hate everything Pittsburgh.
I rooted for the Ravens in their Superbowl....the Bengals....I root for the home team....and AFC North teams are the home team.
I don't root for them while we are still in contention for a North Crown.....but once we are out of the picture....I don't hope they lose just to be a dick.
I am a avid Gator fan but didn't think twice about rooting for Bama to win the national championship.
That doesn't make me a bandwagon fan or a lesser Browns fan does it?
-
I could NEVER root for the squeelers under any circumstances . And the Ravens either . But I think you have that right , and I don't think less of you as a Browns fan . Just a bit missguided .

just my opinion, but a browns fan rooting for the steelers is like rooting for batman and the joker. how can you logically root for both teams when they represent 2 different things? who gives a crap about the rest of the afcn? other than the browns what really matters? those rival afcn teams love sticking it to the browns twice a year and people still want to root for them?
how can any true browns fan root for the steelers after all that's transpired over the entire history of these 2 teams? ex. how can a true browns fan root for the steelers when ben roethlisberger said even though he grew up in ohio, he always hated the browns? how can any true browns fan root for the steelers when bill cowher ran the score up on the browns (in a blow out) a few years ago (on december 24) in cleveland browns stadium? he had a big grin on his face while the browns had zero points. you think he gave a crap about you on CHRISTMAS EVE of all days???????
those are just a few examples out of many.
i just don't see how a true browns fan could root for the steelers like that.

You're a punk bandwagon stooler fan trolling this forum.
it's just sad how a "browns fan" can be an ass kissing, jock boy to our hated rival.

#19 Orlando.....Toss up; I would say Jags but they draw around 27 folks a game; my guess FSU
#20 Sacramento....49ers
#22 Portland....Seahawks
#26 Raleigh....Panthers; very much Panthers until NCAA basketball tips off
#30 Hartford....Def a mix but Pats
#31 Salt Lake City...Broncos
#34 Columbus....Browns!!!! Cincitucky fans only show up if they are winning
#35 Milwaukee....Packers
#36 Greenville/Spartanburg S.C....Panthers without a doubt
#37 San Antonio...Dallas (blech)
#38 West Palm Beach....Miami
#39 Harrisburgh....Zovirax
Question, how can Raliegh with a reported population of 401,552 be ranked 26 and Columbus coming in with 754,885 slotted at 34??? Odd; either way my choices / best guess are above
