It was a great start and i agree with the OP, i was impressed with the offensive playcalling particularly in the first half and the execution by the team as well, TJ Ward is going to be awesome and haden is most certainly coming along well and is easily fast enough to cover in the nfl not a bad ST player either...evens is abeast and both jake and seneca so far look better than any QB combo we have had since returning...

I also appreciated the gutsy 4th down calls mangini incorporated and hope to see it at times during the regular season..

I see depth as our biggest problem but you expect that during a rebuild, the packers first team pulverized our defense but they are a very good offensive unit..the browns are a work in progress on both sides of the ball but im both relieved and pleased with the improvements i saw in the first team rather we had won or lost...dawson 59 yards? All i can say is Wow! 😉

Yeah, I agree Rodgers tore our D apart- but IMHO if this had been a regular season game it would have been a 50-48 shootout.

LOVED what I saw of Ward- the kid is a PLAYAH. Hayden was OK, and noticed Lauvao was first string. McDonald sucked as usual. All in all so far an impressive draft by the Browns.

Dawson 59 yards? Are you kidding me? Hey the DUI guy even contributed- he'll probably get a suspended license and maybe a game or two suspension- but he's a nice insurance policy if Josh should get hurt.

    Interesting Stat:

TJ Ward had the most tackles in the game. 6 tackles and 1 assist. Kid has a nose for the ball and likes to hit. Extremely happy with his play. Even on the pass he got a touch down against him. He had his hands up when the ball came. He was in great position, but things didn't work out that time.

  • Even Kosar mentioned that some of Rodgers' pass plays were indefensible.

Often, the Browns had coverage but the throw was perfect. Rodgers is no slouch, nor is he a rookie.

Ward looks a real bigtime, all over the field star caliber playmaking safety, not a long haired, cheap shotting girlyman that the squeelers have.

Colt made some real fine plays for a rookie. And some bad plays. He had a tough outing. He's a rookie, fer cryin out loud, playing with

    the oline backups etc.

Our first string offensive line ruled on pass defense and run blocking.

Delhomme is the real deal. Wallace is backup, but he can play. Delhomme had beautiful zip, timing and judgement out there. I loved that.

Hayden had some jitters, some experience needed, but played pretty nice overall, for his first game.

I think any of us could bounce a marshmallow off our foreheads with more zip that Ratcliff can muster on his passes.... @@

I wouldn't really care if the Browns had not done nearly as well. but I would if it was the 3rd preseason game. The Browns will look

even BETTER in a few more games. This is EXCITING STUFF, these Browns play excited, with HEART, and INTELLIGENCE.

The Browns will run the ball against any defense they play. Oh, this year is going to surprise a LOT of folks.

  • Evan Moore is a future pro bowler....cant wait to see TJ Ward nail divisional opponents

and cribbs nail a quarterback or two.

  • I liked what I saw.... Super Bowl ready, hell no but a damn site better than last year...

Rogers schooled our rookies but he's supposed to, this guys a player... The good news is that our rookies will get better... They were agressive and didn't lack any effort...

Shawn Rogers sould make a huge difference to our D line... In his absence however they seemed to play the run much better and I liked the blitz mentality by Ryan....

Anyone still want DA or BQ??? Didn't think so... Both Jake and Wallace seemed to move the ball really well.... Our receivers looked good but we still need a difference maker in that group....

I wonder what Hardesty will bring to the table when he heals... Harrison, Davis and Hillis looked good...

I'm excited and like what I'm seeing so far...

    Peace

How did Luvoulo look starting at RG? I didn't watch much of him but he didn't stick out from getting beat so thats a good thing

How did Haden play? He actually played pretty well, he was left on a island most of the night due to all the blitzing and was pretty tight in coverage. Rogers just made some spectacular throws. And he dropped a INT.

Nice stats for the starting WRs, did they look smooth? Looked real good, especially with Delhomme. His timing looked spot on and made it look quite easy.MoMass went out early with a knee injury so didnt see much of him. Robiskie and Moore who was split out alot were most impressive.

Any sort of pass rush, blitz packages? Disappointing in this area, against Rogers we blitzed alot and didn't do much at all except expose the secondary. Once Rogers went out Trusnik and Bernard got some nice pressure.

Who was the one guy that surprised you (positively) the most? Delhomme looked all world but only got 1 series compared to Rogers going into the 2nd quarter. The most impressive guy to me throughout the entire game was TJ Ward. He was all over the field, looked really fast in run support coming up and hitting guys behind the line of scrimmage. He got beat on a TD pass put was in excellent position just another great throw and catch. He's gonna be a player.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the info guys, I missed the game. Here's what I missed, correct me if I'm wrong:

-Not only is Phil Dawson's job safe, he is a god and needs to be paid

-Delhomme looked sharp, played one series with the #1's and took it to the house.

-Rogers sliced up our defense, just like he did in the regular season last year.

-Evan Moore continues to look great at TE (Did he start?)

    -Wallace threw 2 TD passes

-McCoy struggled a bit and got injured, removed for precautionary reasons

Other questions, and forgive me if these were already posted I haven't got through them all yet:

How did Luvoulo look starting at RG?

He didn't stand out in a bad way I can say that much...didn't really notice him

    How did Haden play?

He was beat a few times, but all in all played solid D

Nice stats for the starting WRs, did they look smooth?

Nothing spectacular, but they played very well. Robiskie did well on a scramble where Wallace had to escape pressure and hit Robo in the back corner of the endzone for a TD.

Any sort of pass rush, blitz packages?

The pressure was there. I'm not sure if we got sacks but we forced some quick throws and affected the QB's timing for sure.

Who was the one guy that surprised you (positively) the most?

    Thanks!

    I didn't see the game either, only the tailend and Dawson's heorics. I'll add to your questions;

I read that Haden had like 3 tackles and a Pass defensed. Did he play special teams at all?

I heard/read that Ward was a beast and an impact player ... but I'm looking for specifics ... details?

How did Mitchell, Haggery, etc. look at WR?

I wasn't that impressed with the Run stats, but some I talked to said that we looked good, that all RB's looked good? Did they pick up key yards (3rd & short) or something, because I didn't see any runs past 5-yrds except for Colt.

Why did the DB's give up so much? Was it all Rogers carving us up, or poor scheme or execution?

Ed and I scrambled around Panama City Florida trying to find the game. I didn't catch any of it until I returned home, fired up the laptop and someone in the Browns Tavern Chat clued me in on watching it online. That was awesome, as I caught all of Dawson's work down the stretch. We killed them Packers at that point (haha).

  • Chris Jennings did nothing but hurt his chance to make the team. He tried cutting back in traffic hoping to make big plays and ended up losing yards both times. He has to realise the D is fast n he cant do that crap n just go forward. You could see the frustration on his face. Just cuz he had that crazy run last year (i think against Jags) doesnt mean it can be repeated.

Haden did play on special teams and returned it 35 yards once.

Ward had the best hit of the night.

    Mitchell had some good catches.

Our RB's didn't look that good, our passing game looked way better than our running game.

It was both poor scheme and rodgers carving us up.

  • --I have never been a Jennings fan & expect that he doesn't make the regular season roster unless we have injury problems at RB.

--Not getting to Rogers may be at least partially a product of not showing too much during the preseason.

--Given a real QB, I thought our young receivers looked pretty decent.

--Three young players I have been high on showed up very well.

--Haden had pretty tight coverage & will be fine.

--Benard is a pass rushing beast. Hopefully, he'll be used a lot in pass rush packages.

--T J Ward was, IMHO, the star of the game for the Browns. He was all over the place & hard hitter. Very aggressive!

All in all, I saw a lot of improvement over last year & the offense was a LOT better looking. Granted, it's just 1 preseason game, but there was a lot to like. Sure there are problem areas & lots of room for improvement, but the product appears to be much improved over last year. We certainly made some nice draft picks.

  • I hear a lot of people saying that it was very evident that we lack depth after that game. Is this the case? And if so what position/s is this most apparent?

D-line is the only area I think depth is glaringly lacking

This tweet gave me a chuckle

    BossWard43

Getting this good treatment. I feel like I got hit by a truck. Lol

  • i think the browns starting d did good against the packs starting o. they forced a fumble and recovered it on their opening drive and our offense got a td off of it. rodgers got the browns on the packs next 2 possessions, putting 2 tds on the board (that's going to happen to the best of them). but then the browns shut them down on rodgers final drive when he threw the ball to driver who got slammed to the ground by tj, forcing them to punt. i also noticed how the rooks (haden and ward) started playing better in rodgers final drive. i'm sure someone was talking to them on the sideline about what they did wrong and what they could do better and they probably made some adjustments.

  • I liked how we recaptured the momentum and how the chemistry of this team is developing.

    These boys are a hit!

You nailed it! It was great watching the vets & rookies talking after plays, whether successful or not. These guys communicate with & cheer for each other. What a change from previous year's "me ball". It looks like we are building a TEAM!

    Mike

  • Keeping in mind this was the first pre-season game , with several players playing in their first game ever in the NFL , I would say that the team is responding well to the coaches , and playing together well as a team .

  • we all know (or atleast should know) that it was just a pre-season game, but the packers sure looked like they wanted to win. i was suprised that rodgers played that far into the game.

  • I thought the same thing . They were a bit surprised I think , as many others will be this year .
