Thanks for the info guys, I missed the game. Here's what I missed, correct me if I'm wrong:

Other questions, and forgive me if these were already posted I haven't got through them all yet:

How did Luvoulo look starting at RG?

    How did Haden play?

Nice stats for the starting WRs, did they look smooth?

Any sort of pass rush, blitz packages?

Who was the one guy that surprised you (positively) the most?

    Thanks!

    Zombo

    I didn't see the game either, only the tailend and Dawson's heorics. I'll add to your questions;

I read that Haden had like 3 tackles and a Pass defensed. Did he play special teams at all?

I heard/read that Ward was a beast and an impact player ... but I'm looking for specifics ... details?

How did Mitchell, Haggery, etc. look at WR?

I wasn't that impressed with the Run stats, but some I talked to said that we looked good, that all RB's looked good? Did they pick up key yards (3rd & short) or something, because I didn't see any runs past 5-yrds except for Colt.

Why did the DB's give up so much? Was it all Rogers carving us up, or poor scheme or execution?

Ed and I scrambled around Panama City Florida trying to find the game. I didn't catch any of it until I returned home, fired up the laptop and someone in the Browns Tavern Chat clued me in on watching it online. That was awesome, as I caught all of Dawson's work down the stretch. We killed them Packers at that point (haha).

  • Chris Jennings did nothing but hurt his chance to make the team. He tried cutting back in traffic hoping to make big plays and ended up losing yards both times. He has to realise the D is fast n he cant do that crap n just go forward. You could see the frustration on his face. Just cuz he had that crazy run last year (i think against Jags) doesnt mean it can be repeated.

Haden did play on special teams and returned it 35 yards once.

Ward had the best hit of the night.

    Mitchell had some good catches.

Our RB's didn't look that good, our passing game looked way better than our running game.

It was both poor scheme and rodgers carving us up.

  • --I have never been a Jennings fan & expect that he doesn't make the regular season roster unless we have injury problems at RB.

--Not getting to Rogers may be at least partially a product of not showing too much during the preseason.

--Given a real QB, I thought our young receivers looked pretty decent.

--Three young players I have been high on showed up very well.

--Haden had pretty tight coverage & will be fine.

--Benard is a pass rushing beast. Hopefully, he'll be used a lot in pass rush packages.

--T J Ward was, IMHO, the star of the game for the Browns. He was all over the place & hard hitter. Very aggressive!

All in all, I saw a lot of improvement over last year & the offense was a LOT better looking. Granted, it's just 1 preseason game, but there was a lot to like. Sure there are problem areas & lots of room for improvement, but the product appears to be much improved over last year. We certainly made some nice draft picks.

  • I hear a lot of people saying that it was very evident that we lack depth after that game. Is this the case? And if so what position/s is this most apparent?

D-line is the only area I think depth is glaringly lacking

This tweet gave me a chuckle

Getting this good treatment. I feel like I got hit by a truck. Lol

  • i think the browns starting d did good against the packs starting o. they forced a fumble and recovered it on their opening drive and our offense got a td off of it. rodgers got the browns on the packs next 2 possessions, putting 2 tds on the board (that's going to happen to the best of them). but then the browns shut them down on rodgers final drive when he threw the ball to driver who got slammed to the ground by tj, forcing them to punt. i also noticed how the rooks (haden and ward) started playing better in rodgers final drive. i'm sure someone was talking to them on the sideline about what they did wrong and what they could do better and they probably made some adjustments.

  • I liked how we recaptured the momentum and how the chemistry of this team is developing.

    These boys are a hit!

You nailed it! It was great watching the vets & rookies talking after plays, whether successful or not. These guys communicate with & cheer for each other. What a change from previous year's "me ball". It looks like we are building a TEAM!

  • Keeping in mind this was the first pre-season game , with several players playing in their first game ever in the NFL , I would say that the team is responding well to the coaches , and playing together well as a team .

  • we all know (or atleast should know) that it was just a pre-season game, but the packers sure looked like they wanted to win. i was suprised that rodgers played that far into the game.

  • I thought the same thing . They were a bit surprised I think , as many others will be this year .

yes, i think they were suprised to. they probably took the national media's word on the browns and thought this would be a repeat of last year. i'm glad jake and seneca looked good out there. they made an ass out of a few haters that run their mouths on the radio here in cleveland. 😆

i like how the browns didn't give up and the chemistry looked great. what about our back up return men? it's nice to know we have a couple guys in place if we need them.

  • I did not see the game but I would point out that you should not expect a lot of blitzing in the pre-season. It's vanilla all the way. That said, on the above NFL.com highlight video, there was at least one corner blitz.

We weren't like that last night...we were blitzing nearly every play in the first half. We looked like the Buddy Ryan Bears with guys everywhere. If that was vanilla, I wonder what the tutti fruity looks like.

Too bad none of the blitzes produced a sack.

I noticed that too. We were calling a ton of blitzes (which was probably part of the reason our secondary was doing their impression of burnt toast).

  • DVR'ed the game so I went back and watched the first-stringers again today.

Watching it for a second time, I took a look at our offensive line play. I thought Lauvao did decent for his first game. His run blocking was good as he either won or stalemated his assignments each time. However, he did get pushed back into the pocket on a few passes. Still, a good first game. The second thing is Alex Mack is unbelievable. If he's not the most mobile center in the league, I would like to see the other guy. On the screen to Hillis, Mack got downfield outside the hashmarks and just blew up a Packer DB allowing Hillis to ramble another 20 yards. His mobility really allows our screen game to be very effective.

All the reports on Brian Robiskie came to reality last night. Brian had a very good game. He came back to the ball on each of his dig routes, allowing the ball to get on him before the DB could close on the ball. He also showed good instincts on the TD grab by running to an area where wAllace could deliver the ball.

On defense, get used to all the blitzing. With an upgraded secondary at his disposal, Ryan is going to take more chances at getting to the opposing QB. I liked the aggressiveness and I thought our DBs were right there on most of those plays. The difference was Aaron Rodgers is pretty freaking good. Not only did he throw the ball to the right guys on the blitz, he threw it where it had to be. Haden showed good coverage skills and lesser QBs would have had incompletions on many balls thrown his way. If we throw those same blitzes at the Rams QBs next week, rest assured the results will be a lot different.

Finally, TJ Ward is the real deal. Recently on another thread I made the claim that Ward was an upgrade over Brodney Pool and another poster questioned that claim. No doubt that was a valid question at the time considering Ward had yet to play an official down in the league. But after watching camp and last night's game it's apparent that Ward just looks the part. He did get beat on a TD throw (even though he was right there), but he had a solid game and it was capped off by a great tackle in space of Donald Driver on third down. Ward's playmaking ability is going to really open things up for what the Browns can do with their secondary coverage packages.

One final note that should get people excited: THE BROWNS SCORED 21 POINTS IN THE FIRST HALF WITHOUT JOSH CRIBBS TOUCHING THE BALL.

I am looking forward to next Saturday.
