I am not going to watch...i am sure it is a crummy punt...so what???
They all make bad kicks or do something goofy.
The fact is this guy is always called back in to action year after year with different teams for the last 5-6 years, so it is obvious he is the best replacement out there who can't quite land a regular job.
It is what it is....his numbers aren't all that bad and he is our punter for the season.

You should watch. It has nothing to do with a punt. The longsnapper snapped the ball at an angle which ricocheted off of Nick Sorenson and landed in our own end zone. Thats not Reggies fault.
What is Reggies fault is that instead of diving on the ball and us only giving up a safety (he had at least 5 second where he could cleanly dive on the ball, no one was even close to him), he runs around the ball, waits for a KC player to dive on it for a TD, then lands on the pile, falls off the pile, and acts like he is injured (even though film shows there was no way in hell he could have been).
Just watch. You will understand why I don't like this guy. Half ass efforts wont get us wins.

This is an incredible amount of traffic here in a short period of time for a thread about a punter.
You must all be Jim Tressel fans who says the punt in the most important play in football.
-
I wonder if Tom Tupa can still play. He'd save that third-string QB roster spot..

im gunna have to agree, i did see this coming as well. now i do hope that we pick up a little better punter to compete with Hodges. would be a little better for the team

That sounds great, but the fact is NFL coaches love experience at the kicker positions....it's why you don't see many rooks make teams and why kickers play 20 years.
If we can find a better punter, fine by me, but if it is close, Hodges is the guy we see this year so y'all might as well get comfortable with the fact.
-
I agree with peen . At least we know what we have in Hodges . Why shop now . I am sure there is a short list if something goes wrong .
-
Yeah, I watched it- and you're going to rag him out on a totally busted play? Pontbriand made one of his few errors and blew the snap count on that one! The up blocking back didn't know the ball was coming either.
He should have landed on the ball in the end zone, regardless.
Either way, this is how I feel:

OK, so Hodges didn't kick the ball out of the back of the end zone like he should have. If you can come up with a guy out there that can do better than 11th in punting (that's above average BTW), got any ideas? PS- we won the game against KC, so it didn't matter.
And really, the guy makes one lousy play, and you want a replacement? Fer gosh sakes, Garo Ypremian did something way more stupid that that in the freaking Super Bowl.

The Browns placed Zastudil, a Bay Village native and one of the league's top punters, on injured reserve Tuesday, meaning he'll miss the final season of his five-year contract with his hometown team.
i forgot that after this season, he's a fa. this very well could be his last season with his hometown team.

Someone needs to watch the video I posted a few posts back. I don't need a punter that doesn't know what he is doing.
yeah, hodges coulda dove on it and got a safety or kicked it out, whatever.he had a milli-second to make the decision>>>i see no need in crucifying him forever for a bad snap that i think hit aDB's elbow...when it didn't cost us the game anyway.
we could do worse even if they don't imo. he wasn't coffin-cornering anyone but hodges did a solid job last year.Zombo said:
I was worried about this. Wonder if they'll sign someone to compete with Reggie.Zastudil is a damn good one.

Veteran OL Floyd Womack out for rest of the preseason with knee injury. Likely had arthroscopic surgery. Will be re-evaluated before season.
TE Joel Gamble resigned to take Zastudil's roster spot
Rookie OL Shaun Lauvao has been excused for the rest of the week for personal reasons; may or may not play Saturday vs. Rams

well it was a great time to draft Lauvao...looks like the young guy gets some more PT.TE Joel Gamble resigned to take Zastudil's roster spot

if Mack gets hurt it's curtains.

And why for the life of me I can't figure out why the browns don't draft O-line early and often year after year.
I don't care who you have at the other positions, if your O-line sucks, great players aren't going to look good and if the line is great, even average players are going to look pretty good.
-
Bad knees with a punter isn't good.
I wouldn't be surprised if his career is over.
-
I'm at the point now where I think this isn't a loss for the Browns at all. He hasn't been with us much over the last couple of years that he won't be missed on the field. He may be a great guy in the community but has not come close to fulfilling bis contract in Cleveland. We have gotten used to him not being around.

i agree-can never have too many talented O-line guys.I don't care who you have at the other positions, if your O-line sucks, great players aren't going to look good and if the line is great, even average players are going to look pretty good.
so far Mangini is two for two though. maybe he agrees with us.

I think some still do, but I think most feel that kicking the ball high to the center of the field and trying for something around the 15 is a higher percentage play then kicking it to one of the corners and hope it goes out on the 2.
I think punters have more control over how high they kick the ball v shooting it for one of the pylons.

I think it calls for some Browns Punters Trivia, Gipper.Like what Browns punter was cousins to a stolen base king?
Greg Coleman (Vince of the Cardinals)
What Browns punter from the 70's also held down the job of third string QB?
Johnny Evans
Don't forget Tom Tupa who did the same thing.
Was Don Cocroft the last of the full-time kicker/punters?
No, but he was close...
Didn't Mark Mosely also punt?

From wikipedia:Cockroft served as the Browns' primary punter and placekicker for the first 9 seasons of his career. In 1977 he dropped punting from his duties and became solely a placekicker. He and Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker/punter Dave Green were two of the last NFL players to lead their teams in both punting and kicking in the same season (1976).
Later NFL players to have this dual distinction were Steve Little of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1979, and Frank Corral for the Los Angeles Rams in 1980 and 1981.
I don't remember Mosely punting ... maybe when he first came up.
Zombo
I thought perhaps Mosely had to take over punting duties for the Browns when their regular punter got hurt or something....I will check it out...
OK, not him, but I think the guy I had in mind was Steve Cox. He was the Browns regular punter for 4 years, plus he would try the occasional long FG. In fact, he may have the two longest FGs in Browns history with a 60 yarder and a 58 yarder.
