wow. to remember that post from the cavs board made a month ago.............who are you, the overseer of all things black and white and right and wrong?

you are such an ass. how do you think my friend and i talk to each other? get off your angry black man soap box and realize that people can be friends and break chops down to the color of their skin and yes.....hateful words (of course there is a line and you must know that). this guy is like my brother and his family are like my family. how dare you tell me how to act or accuse me of shit when you don't even know me. when's the last time you've traveled outside of your little box? go see the country, travel around the world, talk to other people in other lands and come back and tell me what you've found out. people who might not agree with me or people who might not agree with you. so. again. who are you?

BTW, go make some white friends, we're not all bad.

angry blackman? make some white friends? first of all, who said i was black? i guess you don't realize that there are white people who hate racism to. whether i'm black or white is irrelevant.

btw, i'm not the one with the racial issues, you are. i'm not the one who's filled with anger, you are. and just like i predicted, you made a foolish reply that was all over the place and doesn't mean nothing at all.

  • it's the end of the discussion because you said it is? how old are you? man, i defended your right to think the way you do by defending this country against those who might not think the way you or i might. what have you done? i've been in more debates and scuffles because of the way i've defended my beliefs in non-racism and the people i might sit next to than you've seen episodes of the boon docks (no not racist asshole, just saw your sig before). don't put on your white collar yet father finnegan, the morality police will be by soon enough.

  • that's bad, organizations should always treat their legends to privileges, but it doesn't have to be something so important, I say just give him an advisory position and make everyone happy. the players enjoy having him around anyhow.

I take this back as Jim Brown apparently rejected an offer:

"Holmgren offered Brown a reduced role at a lower salary, which Brown declined."

Of course there could be a lot of misinformation everywhere.

  • They say old Jimbo could of been a great olympian shot putter after seeing how far he tossed that woman of the balconey.

    Great running back.

    As a person he's basically a scumbag.

"""But for all of Brown's good deeds and athletic prowess, there has been a dark side to him, too. He was frequently accused of violent crimes, primarily toward women, and though he was not found guilty, they have hurt his image.

An 18-year-old accused Brown of forcing her to have sex after giving her whisky, but a jury found him innocent of assault and battery in the 10-day trial in 1965. He was accused of throwing a model from a balcony in 1968, but when the 22-year-old woman refused to name Brown as her assailant, the charge of assault with intent to murder was dropped.

He was acquitted of assaulting a man after a traffic accident in 1969. He was fined $500 and spent a day in jail after beating up a golfing partner. He was charged with rape, sexual battery and assault in 1985, but the charges were dropped when the 33-year-old woman gave inconsistent testimony. The next year he was arrested for allegedly beating his fiancée after accusing her of flirting. He spent three hours in jail, but three days later the 21-year-old woman said she didn't want to prosecute.

In 1999, Brown was convicted in Los Angeles of smashing the window of his 25-year-old wife Monique's car, but was acquitted of making terrorist threats against her. The judge sentenced him to three years' probation, stripped him of his driver's license for a year, and ordered him to attend special counseling for domestic batterers.""""

OK, so where is Randy Lerner in this situation. He is the owner of the team. He has final say. Anything of this nature would have to be done with the consent and approval of the owner, fair to say?

Here is a possible reason for this frostiness: Randy Lerner wants to erect a statue to Al Lerner outside the Stadium.

OK, so, we recognize that Al Lerner paid a lot of money to bid on the franchise when it was up for sale during the "expansion" process. And we recognize that he died after only a few years. But, the key is "only a few years".

In the realm of things, why should Al Lerner get a statue when there is no statue to: Jim Brown, Paul Brown, Otto Graham, Lou Groza, etc. etc. etc. all the Browns greats of the past, or to Joe Louis, who allegedly the team is named after.

Maybe Jim Brown said something about "why should there be a statue to someone who all he did for the team is put up money". Even if JB didn't say that, it is still a good point.

I advocate for a statue of Jim Brown, Paul Brown, and Joe Louis be erected and that Randy officially declare that the Cleveland Browns name be in honor of these gentlemen. Then put Al's statue on the other side of the stadium.

    Sound fair?

every time i've seen him in the past 20+ years he's always been wearing that dog bowl african kufi hat.

what does this have to do with anything? why even bring this up? it's completely irrelevant to this discussion. there's absolutely nothing wrong with a man showing respect for his ancestry by wearing an item like that. it's not a dog bowl, but your comments are quite prejudiced and borderline racist. just because you don't understand the african culture doesn't give you the right to throw childish remarks at it. instead of talking about jim brown you should look in the mirror and focus on yourself. concentrate working on getting rid of that hate and ignorance in you. this is the second time in less than 2 months that i've seen an ignorant comment like this from you.

Besides, its actually been a few years since I saw him wear that hat. For a long time he did, but not lately.

  • I think there isn't enough room for all the statues of

former Browns coaches and players who deserve them.

Blanton Collier, Leroy Kelly, Milt Morin, Gene Hickerson, Loe the Toe, ...

there's plenty more, I just don't remember them offhand.

It's a team game, I don't see statues of individuals at all....

But I will always appreciate Al Lerner for funding the bringing back of our Browns.

  • Bottom line is Jim Brown didn't bring much to the Browns other than living legend status.

If he isn't willing to maintain that status without drawing a paycheck, then, too bad Jim.

OK, but, recall that he merely bid a couple of million dollars more than the next guy, who I believe was Charles Dolan, founder of Cablevision and HBO and brother of Larry Dolan.

  • In one capacity or another, this guy has been sopping his bisuits in the Browns gravy train since he left the team. This, I suspect, has created enormous resentment amongst the rest of the retired Browns,

some who have made just as many contributions to the overallll direction of the club. Since he loves Cleveland so much, why did he rush to socal as soon as he could to take up residence, never again

to live in the Browns community? Of course we all know his hollywood career was shortlived and not as profiable as jim imagined it would be. It's time to cut this bushwacker free from any prearrranged

good ole buy severence package put together by regimes past. We love you Jim. Try to read the writing on the wall and quit taking yourself so seriously. Walmart is always hiring.

Your point is fair although surrounded in your own speculation. Why should a man who simply put up money, but was also instrumental in the departure of the previous team, have a statue?

However, despite the greatness that was Jim Brown on the field, who would erect a statue of a scumbag of a human being? Paul Brown I can see...........and just more speculation about Joe Louis.........

Some of it is speculation, agreed. I think I said that.

As for having a statue for Al Lerner, yes, some Browns fans would agree, why should a short term owner who had a hand in the team's "move" be compensated with a statue?

On why should Jim Brown have a statue? Well, because he was perhaps the greatest football player ever, and this is a football team. A hell of a lot worse scumbags have statues.

On Paul Brown, I don't know. Perhaps there may be some residual resentment toward him from the Lerner's stemming from Al's association/friendship? with Art Modell, or perhaps the Lerner's may not feel comfortable honoring a man whose family still owns a rival team.

On Joe Louis, that is not speculation, though it is questionable. The semi-official line is that the Browns are named after Joe Louis, the "Brown" Bomber; though, in reality, they are probably named after Paul Brown. It is known that he rejected the original chosen name of "The Panthers" and that when someone suggested The Browns, he said "yea, that sounds good", but he didn't want to actually acknowledge that the "Brown" was actually he, so the Joe Louis story was, perhaps, concocted. Or, maybe it is completely true. Maybe there was so much love for an African-American sports hero that everyone just accepted that a professional football team was named for him. Pretty awesome for 1945 America, wouldn't you say? That is, if you buy it. Many/most don't.

  • If there should be a statue of anyone in front of the stadium it should be Paul Brown first and foremost!

  • Ok real question about football does anyone know when hardesty is coming back. I can't find any updates.

Btw, why are we even talkin about this former actor

  • I'm amazed that as Browns fans we can write off what a scumbag this guy really is.

The crap this guy was accused makes the pittsburg rapist look like a beginner.

I'm glad to cut ties with this parasite.

  • Formerly Stone said:

I am amazed at how people are often okay with embarrassment as long as someone is worse.

A statue outside your stadium is a statement about the organization, not the football player. Yes Jim Brown was a great football player, but that is one of many attributes, most of the rest of which are bad.

Actually, I think you are wrong. MOST of Jim Browns attributes are good if not outstanding.

Has he had a few road bumps in his life? Sure, but, if you take his life as a whole, he has made an outstanding contribution to society with his charitable work and his foundations, etc. etc.

So, if St. Peter at the Pearly gates were there judging his positives against his negatives it wouldn't even be an issue.

    A. He is perhaps the greatest football player ever. B. His Amer-I-can program has helped countless inner city kids stay out of trouble. C. He had a few decent roles in a few decent action movies...for what that's worth D. He has been an advisor for the Browns for years. And I could probably go on.

On the other side, he had a couple of minor legal entanglements. How many others have had those.
