Numbers are in: 5-year, $40 million contract that includes $23 million guaranteed.

  • By the way, James Walker, the ESPN AFC North guy, says he was at Browns camp and Haden looked a step slow and unsure of himself. I think we can piece together the notion that the kid was not awesome. Doesn't mean all that much... but it is what it is.

For the millionth time: he was practicing with no pads, no contact, and no knoweldge of the playbook. Give it a rest.

What is there to "rip up"? All we've had is minicamp, with no-contact drills and no knowledge of the playbook.

You hear good things about Hardesty and Robiskie because they're making runs and catches with no resistance. CB isn't as sexy a position to report on.

Cover guys cover. The Texans' coach praised Kareem Jackson for holding his own against Andre Johnson day after day, said he looked the part. He's already the starter.

We've had LOTS of shorts-and-tees practices between OTAs and mini-camps... and the corners are covering the WRs every day. They've had a lot to look at.

yeah! they should cut his ass off of the team! (*sarcasm alert*)

  • Clearly, Lombardi was right about Haden. The guy's a flat-out bust. 😴

Also, I love how Kareem Jackson, the guy who reportedly was fantastic in OTAs, is playing worse than Eric Wright. I guess those summer reports mattered a whole lot less than the college tape, which showed he could get beat deep.

  • I thought Haden was up and down yesterday. He showed some excellent coverage on a couple of sideline plays, but gave up way to many 8 and 10 yards completions on key third downs. That should be his forte, getting physical on key 3rd and 6 plays.

McCourty's playing really well for New England and Earl Thomas is in the running for ROY for Seattle. Not sure where Haden ranks among DBs, but it's not super high.

Dez Bryant is becoming a franchise WR before our eyes, though. He's having the kind of rookie year few WRs do, getting it right away. If it were possible to get Bryant and McCourty without sacrificing Ward, I would... but it really isn't. So it's a little pointless to keep looking back.

But... I would love to have Dez Bryant. He's exactly the kind of physical, dominating presence we need to find in the next draft.

  • Does anyone else think that Haden had an "up and down" game?

I thought Haden played well. After all, you didn't hear Braylon's name much in the second half. That said, I think that reading through the history of this thread...a couple of points bear mentioning.

First off, it's been stated in numerous places around draft time that Mangini wanted Kyle Wilson from Boise State over Haden. Either way, they took Haden so move on...

Second, Mike Lombardi has a long history of being a participant in the "Mangini Witch Hunt". You can read his biased banter here or read this nice summation about Lombardi vs Mangini here.

Mike Lombardi is an ass. No self-respecting NFL personnel guy or reporter would go to such hyperbolic lengths to discredit and condemn a head coach without some personal vendetta against him.

We'll see who has the last laugh Mike.

  • Haden is a stud, I can't believe how Retarded some people are.

You guys make it out like this guy is the next antonio langham..

He played well, if we had any pass rush at all it would help him out. He will be fine..

  • Yeah. Joe Haden had an up and down day, because Sanchez completed more than one pass.

    good grief.

Haden had a fine day, as evidenced by his making Braylon Wailin Edwards look like a fool on that int at the 3 yd line, as well

as most of the game. There aren't many cb's who have the incredible reaction time, speed, strength and agility like Haden does.

This means a qb who doesn't complete all his passes in game, had an "up and down" day?

    "sigh"

Haden was "good enough" at a minimum. Let's give him a rest. If we're assigning blame to CB's, #21 is top of the list. Santonio Holmes went up to his OC and said #21 was giving him too much leverage the whole game. (Giving up too much of the inside). That's when they hit him with the slant that he barely moved on.

  • I can remember one particular drive where Haden made all three plays, one pass deflection, one over thrown pass due to good coverage by Haden, and tackled Homes short of the first down, which if it was Wright, Holmes would have gotten across the line.

I agree, Haden had a fine day especially in the second half. Essentially took Edwards out of the game.

The underneath routes were open because Sanchez was getting way too much time to throw, and when he didn't he was able to elude sacks with his feet and still make a play. Isn't a cornerback in the league who can stay with a wr when the QB gets six seconds to throw.

And as to Dez Bryant, hindsight says character risk that turned out OK. Question is who do the Browns have to cover a guy like that? Now at least they have Hayden. IMHO taking a corner first in the 2010 draft was absolutely the right thing to do.

  • To clarify me and Alo going back and forth on Haden like he's Aaron Curry or something (!)... I think he's good. I've always thought he was good. I can't imagine NOT thinking he's good.

The debate was and is whether he's #7 overall good. And considering that's 7 spots higher than Revis was picked... man, you gotta be a REALLY good corner to make that a value pick.

I love the kid now. He's a Brown at a position of need... especially with Wright finding new levels of suck-ass. But I think we could have done more with a top 10 pick.

Yeah, I thought he was up and down. Consider the fact that we couldn't get off the field on defense and a lot of that was passes in front of both corners... I don't think anybody was awesome on pass defense. Sanchez had a big day (300 yards and 2 TDs).

(A: I know Curry had his first good game of the season... so maybe the light is going on. Still, he has only 36 tackles all year.)

  • No I don't think he was a good pick at 7, and I think he wasn't supposed to leave the board until the high teens low 20's so I have no idea why we didn't trade back or pick up Thomas, but what is done is done and I think Haden should be starting NOW!

Oh, I agree. He's the best cover guy on the team.
