Titans to release/trade Vince Young

The Browns Board

  • I think Vince Young has certainly not helped himself with his immature behavior. But I also tend to think that it's obvious that Fischer hasn't liked Vince from the start and has found every way to push his buttons. It's been a long, stupid saga for a long time. Fischer smugly quipping about how Vince should have met him face to face instead of tweeting him... a year after he fires Norm Chow over the phone.

Also, Cam Newton doesn't have a substantially better arm than Vince. Vince throws a really good deep ball and has a quick, crisp release. Yeah, it's sidearm, but no one on a Browns board ought to have a problem with that, right?

Fisher wasn't the asshole in this relationship, Fisher wasn't the immature piece of crap who put himself above the team. Young didn't have the balls to act like a man to face Fisher man to man and apologize. I don't know many adult males that let crybaby wannabees text an apology, but in the real world of men, this is done face to face.

He needs to grow up, not Fisher.

  • double tap

  • i would take VY outta college if you had given me the option of him or Newton that stage in there careers's but i have to agree that Tennessee has taken its toll on him and he has never compeltely grown up and become an actually leader, i still dont think Newton is NFL QB material he may be a playmaker but i dont see it at the next level

  • I think Young is a victim of his own talent. He was such a physically gifted HS player, such a gifted college player, that he did not have to work at his craft, study defenses, learn… develop a work ethic. If you don't have a strong work ethic, you can forget being a consistent player in the NFL, let alone a consistent QB.

Vince was even gifted enough to get away with it sometimes at the pro level, but Fisher knew that sometimes isn't good enough... and apparently so now does Bud Adams.

Others cut more or less from the same cloth:

    - Michael Vick the younger

    - Jamarcus Russell

    - Matt Leinart

    - Ryan Leaf

Pretty sure Terrell Pryor is there, but I doubt he will ever be more than a WildDawg QB in the NFL.

Not sure about Cam Newton yet. His early problems and resulting reroute to JC may have taught him the value of work... just as Vick's problems have apparently taught him.

Didn't the other guy just say that Fisher fired someone over the phone? I will agree that Vick is a cry baby bitch, but firing someone over the phone isn't much better than an apology via text.

Are you saying Fisher fired someone....over the phone....huh?

I am the head coach. You need to apologize? There is a sign on my door that says HEAD COACH.

What are you saying? Fisher fired Young via text?

    LOL....

    You meant Young? Not Vick?

    Right?

    Mom, is that you?

... and actually wouldn't it be a WildEye or something?

Yeah, exactly. And there's lots of little things like that. Vince Young lost the perception battle because of his own immature and myopic behavior. He was the one making goofball headlines on sportscenter. But what I'm saying is that we shouldn't act like Fischer didn't know exactly how to goad him into it. He never wanted Vince.

My whole point is not to defend VY... I think the Titans should get rid of Fischer too, to be honest. They both need a fresh start

  • @king-ghoolie-lives said:

Young blows, SO does Fisher. Gotta disagree with you on this one Zomboni. Fisher turned Air McNair into a parking lot.

To me Fisher is another Marty except with facial hair to make people think his mouth is a xxxx.

He's always struck me as one of those "play not to lose" coaches that will ride a runningback's knees into the dirt all the way to a barely .500 season.

  • I kind of agree on Fisher. Seems like the guy is credited with being a great coach, yet his teams are almost always hovering around .500.

To me, that's not a mark of a great coach.

  • @junkyard-dawg said:

Wonder how Fisher will feel when Bud Adams drafts the less talented VY 2.0 Cam Newton?

I think you're off on this one. Cam will be a better pro than VY. I don't have anything to back it up other than gut feeling.

  • Vince Young was certainly the asshole in the Young/Fisher dilemma. Vince Young didn't even have the balls to apologize in person, he apologized through text message. If my quarterback doesn't have the sincerity to say something to my face then I don't want him on my team.

This can go on an on. Vince was told he wasn't welcome in the building. In my opinion Young was out when he threw his tantrum. Fischer capitalized on it, for sure.

According to this source, Fischer has only six winning seasons to his credit in seventeen seasons of coaching. Why is he so highly thought of? What has he done to keep his job, irrespective of Vince? Because Vince is not an excuse for his record on the field. Young has been a very respectable quarterback on the field. He's just a buffoon off the field.

  • Yeah, Jeff Fisher is such a great guy, like when his team was 0-6 in 2009 and he was blaming everyone but himself. He went to a fundraiser and wore a Peyton Manning jersey so he could "feel like a winner". How would you fans (and the Cleveland players, especially the QB) feel if Mangini had done this?

Jeff Fisher is soooo overrated it is ridiculous.

  • Where does the majority of the information about Vince Young come from? Jeff Fisher. Has VY acted immaturely? No doubt. However, anyone that takes a lot of the stories at face value probably believes everything politicians tell them too.

The bottom line is Fisher will have the opportunity to prove himself without VY in the mix next year. Based on track record I don't think they'll make the playoffs, and likely will end up with a losing record. It remains to be seen whether VY will get a chance to prove himself elsewhere. Personally, I'm glad, because that relationship was poisoned to begin with.

  • I think Vince Young has certainly not helped himself with his immature behavior. But I also tend to think that it's obvious that Fischer hasn't liked Vince from the start and has found every way to push his buttons. It's been a long, stupid saga for a long time. Also, Cam Newton doesn't have a substantially better arm than Vince. Vince throws a really good deep ball and has a quick, crisp release. Yeah, it's sidearm, but no one on a Browns board ought to have a problem with that, right?

Hate the way Young throws, like he's holding a plate. Causes flutters downfield and inconsistent rotation. Like Pryor and Newton, he's a long strider who doesn't explode like Vick.

Bottom line on Young, to be blunt: He's stupid. He got a 6 on his Wonderlic and it shows. He's borderline special ed, mentally and emotionally, at a position that's dominated by guys like Manning, Brady, Brees, and Rodgers who could graze 40 on that test and are leaders of men. He's just not a Quarterback with a capital Q.

Newton at least comes off quite a bit smarter and he has an infectious personality that his teammates love. He throws better than Young and he's faster, too.

He's got a great deep ball as far as I've seen. It's sidearm, but that's not a big deal for a guy his size. I agree that his running style is not as effective in the NFL, but the product he delivers on the field is pretty decent. I mean, the Titans were 0-6 and Fischer was about to lose his job, and Vince saved both his coach and the organization back in '09. He didn't get a 6 on his wonderlic, he got a 15. Which still sucks. He's not a particularly smart guy, but I'd say his emotional maturity is more of a problem that ability to understand the game. Marino got a 16 FYI.
