Why not hire Jim Tressell as Browns coach

Archie Griffin, the greatest college football player of all time.
I agree with this.
I agree with this.
No sir.

I don't really care what conference is best in college football because I pay attention to the NFL a lot more. The SEC seems to be the best conference right now but I won't be surprised if this changes in the near future.
I am waiting for the day they switch to a playoff system. Then the better seeded teams can have the home game. I am getting sick of the SEC (and PAC 10 in the rose bowl) playing home bowl games every year. How about they travel for once and play a road game in the cold up north? I'd be willing to bet the big 10 would win a lot more bowl games than they do now if they got a few "home" bowl games... but people won't travel to cold weather games and all the NCAA and schools care about is the money. kinda sad...

We have a great example of the difference between Big Ten and SEC unfolding as we speak
Michigan...the winningest program in college football, has an opportunity to hire the hottest coach on the planet, who just happens to be
a MU alum...but they're willing to accept Harbaugh's decision and just move on, even though, from all appearances, he is the perfect fit
Don't get me wrong, I hate Wolverines, but hiring JH would be good for MU and good for the Big Ten and if I were a MU fan I'd be up Brandon's ass demanding they sell Detroit
to China or whatever they have to do to get this guy in Ann Arbor
If this were , say Georgia...you think they'd stop short of selling their collective souls for chance to whip Florida's ass for the next ten years?
I'm a Big Ten lifer, yet other than Tressel and JoPa, I can't name five other B10 coaches, but...
Spurrior,Miles Patrino,Saban, and Chizik, right off the top...I could probably name the rest if I had to...noway I could tell you who's coaching
Minnesota.

He won 1 National Championship. He coached freaking Youngstown State, that's not even a FBS school so it doesn't count. The Big Ten is weak, he beats up on teams like Marshall then gets rocked by Wisconsin. And the same reason I don't want Cowher=Once a Steeler, always a Steeler....Tressel=Once a Suckeye, Always A Suckeye. I'm embarrassed he went to UA.
Why not hire Mike Haywood to coach the Steelers?
FYI YSU is a FBS team. As far as Tressel goes his realm is college football. If he wanted to coach pro he would have been somewhere by now. I think it's best to seek a coach elsewhere. I agree that OSU plays too soft a schedule and I'm a fan. I think the Big Ten by in large plays too weak a schedule that's where your BCS (Bowl Championship Slaughterings) come from. The draw back for the Big 10 would be...it would take a few years of getting knocked around by SEC and Pac 10 teams before they compete again. Don't get me wrong I'm a Buckeye fan but they're not doing these kids any favors by playing cupcakes plus if they pick up some harder games and actually compete some of the faster talents that flood the SEC might reconsider thus evening the playing field.

are you kidding? YSU is Youngstown State they are definitely not an FBS school, they are FCS which is a joke.

Yeah he is an average coach....who won five National Championships and more BCS games than any other coach and played in more BCS games than any other coach...
you judge of talent is about as good as your judge of fans....stick your head back up urass

As an Akron U alum I am somewhat embarassed that YOU go to UA.
You obviously know dipshit about college football and its structure.
There are as many or more Div. 1-AA schools as there are FBS schools, and to have won 4 titles at that level, where the quality of the athlete is obviously not the same as at FBS is an outstanding feat, even if you are too dumb to know it.

Perhaps had he kept the Columbus Five off the field tonight and did the right thing and showed some integrity, sure.
No thanks.

No thanks.
And, ergo, then , you must believe that Can Newton should sit out the BCS title game, right?
Here is the reason that the situation with the OSU five came to light:
Because, unlike most other college teams, and particularly the SEC teams, OSU doesn't cheat and pay their players under the table.
That $180,000 demand by Newton's old man to play at Mississippi St.? That is normal operation procedure. A drop in the bucket. Perhaps not to that amount, but I guarntee most SEC players are getting their $1000.00 handshakes about once a month.
OSU doesn't do that. That is why these kids felt compelled to sell their trinkets that were gifts to them. They had to do that on their own behind backs because they, unlike most of their counterparts around the nation, weren't being give cash.

We just fired a coach because he comes from the BB tree where you have a strong running game and opportunistic passing game. How long do you think Tressel would last? Holmgren said he wants a west coast offense guy and that is what he will get

They just wiped their asses with Arkansas and owuld have wiped their ass with Homo Auburn.31-26 is hardly "wiping your asses." That's a one possession win. Ohio State would have no shot at beating Auburn. Top tier speed in the Big Ten is linebacker speed in the SEC. Get used to it. We play a different game. A better game. You beat an average SEC team, good luck trying to play with Bama, Auburn, and LSU. Oh, no wait, you already played LSU didn't you? Now correct me if I'm wrong, but you consider a 5 point win an "ass wiping." LSU beat you beat 14 points, so I guess they spit on you, wiped their asses with you, then left you out to dry. Then repeated.

They wiped their ass with Oregon, who NOW, because OSU had a glitch with Wisconsin, get to avoid playing the best team in college football.Haha good joke. OSU is the best team? Is that why they lost to the sorry ass Miami Hurricanes?

IF there was a College playoff system and these SEC homos didn't have to play always in pristine Southern conditions, and benefit form OSU not playing for 48 days, the Buckeyes would win the National Title 7 out og 8 years. No problem, no question.Oh, I'm sorry, but I guess we SEC "homos" play in the pristine Southern conditions because we are the SOUTH EASTERN CONFERENCE. It's not our fault the Buckeyes play in the shitty weather, it was their decision to play in the shitty weather. Once again, if OSU actually played in a real conference, they would have had a conference championship to play in. But they don't.
Don't argue with the SEC. You can't win this battle, look at the stats.

you should know when to back down. who cares about the sec if you were born and raised in ohio (which i would presume makes up 90% of the BROWNS fans)?
is there a new trend on this board that we now have sec trolls?
have you ever wondered why the sec and the pac 10 are so much better than other conferrences (and i'm not convinced they are)? have little jimmy livin in the projects of detroit who is the most wanted college prospect.....where do you think he wants to play, sunny florida or cali with blondes sucking him off on the beach or columbus ohio or the sticks of indiana? right.
btw why would a cuban have an avatar of a russian flag?

The fact of the matter is the SEC is just days ahead of the other conferences, but that will change in time.
No it won't. OSU or any other sorry ass Not so Big Ten team can schedule a game against the Florida Gators, Alabama Tide, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, and the South Carolina Gamecocks and the SEC teams will put on a clinic. Believe me. Michigan learned. Michigan State learned. Penn State learned. Hell, Wisconsin got beat by TCU.
Big Ten football is high school football compared to the SEC.

Idiocy. The SEC is incrementally better than most other conferences. They should be. They pay for the right to be. $180 K the going rate?

Here is my take on all this SEC/Big Ten/Pac 10 etc. business:
It is GARBAGE to pit conference vs. conference. It is media driven hype.
A conference does NOT field a football team or any othe sports team. Schools do that.
Conferences ONLY exist for the purpose of making the job of school athletic directors easier so they can have some kind of scheduling simplicity for all their sports.
The only other thing it does....now, is to allow for some kind of marketing arm to get these schools more cash with TV deals. etc.
To claim "conference pride" is an idiot's endeavor. It is fool's gold.
If you root for say Ohio State, you don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan....or Wisconsin, or Iowa, or Minnesota, or Indiana or for any of these other damn schools in your "conference". They are there to be fodder for the ass kicking you are going to give them.
WTF shit do I give if the rest of the Big Ten goes 0-5 on New Year's Day, as long as Ohio State wins.
These other teams are the enemy. They are the opponent.
I don't give a damn if Michigan loses to Mississippi State any more than I give a damn if Mississippi loses to Mississippi.
These guys that apparently profess "SEC pride" are f**king ignorant hillbillies.
If they are a Florida fan, why should they give a flying F**k if Auburn beats Oregon or the other way around?
If it ain't Florida winning who should care.
If Michigan were to play an SEC team in a Bowl game do you think we OSU fans are going to be rooting for Michigan?
F**K Michigan.
If Missisippi St. beats them that is fine and dandy. I don't give a rat's ass if they are from the Big Ten or the SEC or the Ivy League.

My mistake I thought I was talking about FCS when I said that. Did you bother to read the rest of the post or were you just saying this to be confrontational?

tressel got damn lucky in that game. He does not have the killer instinct to put teams away. Arkansas came screaming back after Tressel took his foot off of the pedal and wanted to run the clock out in the 2nd half. If the guy picks up the blocked punt (which he should have done instead of falling on it) Ohio State would be 0-10 against the SEC.
-
We played the best and lost. WTF is so wrong about this?
In your case, nothing. I can tell you are modest. There are other folks on this board, aka King Ghoolie Lives, claiming that Ohio State is the best team in college football. And to be honest, Ohio State plays a pretty easy non-conference schedule. They usually have one real non-conf game per year, this year it was Miami (who turned out to be not so good.)
I just hate hearing OSU fans boast about how great they are because they play lower tier teams and win big, then they play a real team and get stomped. Then next year, the same exact stuff. Albert Einstein once said "The definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results."
I do give you props, though. You played a pretty good team in Arkansas and won. Although a couple of your top players shouldn't have been playing, a win is a win.

then don't listen. the sec is not the do all end all conference. sure the big ten plays powder puff teams but so do every conference. i guess playing tennessee is a challenge (i'll equall them to illinois)? mississippi? vanderbilt? kentucky? oooohhh, scary!!!!! you wanna know quality football, check your history books. how does einstein feel about that?

and how about your BOY cam newton? got caught stealing computers and cheating on at least three exams that we know of at florida. YES your glorified florida!! had to leave there, i mean got kicked out, only to get paid by (wait, this is gonna be good) another sec team to come in and play one year, give them the championship (more than likely) and bow out to go to the nfl. wow, what great class the sec shows!!!! good job sec!!!! FXXK them.

I am sick of people throwing out the "if" card trying to discredit The OSU Buckeyes. I have heard people put the entire game on Mallett throwing that pick. Nobody gives credit to Thomas for making the pick. Or on Sanzenbacher for the way he played. Or the entire Buckeye defense for forcing Arkansas to settle for 3 field goals....Should I go on?
The fact is, IT HAPPENED PEOPLE! You could go back and look at EVERY game for EVERY team and say "If such and such happened (or didn't happen) then so and so would have won" No $hit! But it did happen!
And then there are the people running their mouths about the 5 players and how they should not have played and that OSU cheated by letting them play...Those players are part of the team. They are a part of the reason the Buckeyes were in that game to begin with. Nobody did anything by playing them that violated any rules. THERE WAS NO CHEATING! Hog fans...Would you rather have won the game with OSU missing their top QB, RB, WR, and O-Lineman? I should think you would have wanted to play them at their full strength and let the best team win...but I guess that's not the case.

Good argument, xxxx.
Why is it that some of us have to revert back to grade school tactics when we've been proven wrong?
Please don't tell the teacher on me.

Too more do not step up to these two buffoons

As a Florida Gators fan, I don't have much confidence in Tressel. Any team with a decent amount of speed has destroyed OSU, where in the NFL, every team possesses SEC-level speed.
I have nothing against Tressel, he seems like a classy guy. I just don't know if he'd be the best fit for our organization.

Yeah like faster than jet speed Oregon last year.....KEEP DRINKING THE SPEED COOL AID
meanwhile Tressel has won more the current ten years than any other coach.....ALL OF EM

Anyone want to guess what the Bowl record is of the almighty SEC against the lowly Big10 in the Bowl game in the BCS era?
Conference with most BCS wins: SEC (14)
Conference with most BCS National Championships: SEC (6)
Most BCS Championships: Florida and LSU (2)
Conference with most BCS wins: SEC (14)
Conference with most BCS National Championships: SEC (6)
Most BCS Championships: Florida and LSU (2)
Team with the most BCS wins......OHIO STATE......bingo that solves everything........who wins most is best
