Andrew Luck Returning to Stanford

The Browns Board

  • Good for him to return. Shows pretty good character. Im just wondering if he didnt like the situation he would have had in Carolina.

  • Everyone on here is acting like its a done deal that he will be a great NFL QB. Lots of bust first round picks as QB. I think he is making the right decision.

  • Plus he will win more games with stanford next year than he would have with the panthers

It effects the draft board, which in turn effects the Browns.

Maybe u need to go to Stanford πŸ˜‰

My son may want to get his post-grad degree from Stanford. (they have one of the best biology post-grad degree program in the country).

My wife's uncle was a language professor at Stanford. It is one of the best school's going.

Would this mean Harbaugh may stay there as well?

  • good for luck. it is well known that all men named andrew are geniuses and this just proves it.

this will completely change the draft. i could see carolina drafting whatever player is the best overall now. maybe aj green just to see if clausen can do anything with some weapons.

Dumbest decision in the history of dumb decisions.

If he drops 10 spots for the 2012 draft, or worse, it will cost

him 10s of millions - he could finish his education whenever,

but with a guaranteed $55-65 mill in the bank. That is a horrendous

decision. I can't believe he would be that stupid. You never walk

away from a guaranteed $60 mill. because whatever happens after

that will be moot. Ask Locker if he should have stayed this year. Compare

a guaranteed $15 mill to $60 mill. and get back to me.

My ex's brother is named Andrew and he was just busted for blowing his inheritance on a $1000 a day Heroin habbit. Turns out he sold to a few cops and they took his house, car, bikes, and everything else he owned. Glad I havn't seen him in 6 years.

  • Maybe he's one of those rare breeds that thinks about tradition, honor, school spirit, etc.....or maybe he knows there will be a protracted NFL labor dispute and he won't get paid anything next year anyway. I would think Harbugh has the inside scoop about what's likely to happen in the NFL and advised him on what to do. Perhaps the plan is for him to go where Harbaugh goes, but in 2012?

No way dude, better he stays in school and lays as much hot ass as he can, then be the next ben roethlisburger.

  • I'm in the quick minority here.

This kid can return to Stanford ANY time he wants for the rest of his life and finish the year on his degree to go design structures.

But what he CAN'T do is guarantee he will be the first pick in the draft in 2012.

It's not something he should risk IMO. I know it still worked out for guys like Bradford, but why place yourself at risk? There is one thing he can't do, and that is IMPROVE his draft position.

I commend him on honoring a contract and all, but if it were me or my son, I'd suggest otherwise.

True. His folks have the bucks, or found them.

I'll bet he has a insurance policy protecting his NFL draftability against injury.

    Good for him.

it isn't always about the money dude.

For some people it is about accomplishment, pride, and team spirit.

Luck has plenty of money in his future even if he never plays a down of NFL football.

He can still accomplish as much, with pride, etc. with $60 mill. guaranteed over

risking it. He could be one hit away from not even making the NFL. You don't

blow off $60 mill when it is right there for the taking and may never be there

again. You just don't do that.

He just did, so you don't have to take it from a guy who didn't have 60 mil on the line with my last reply.

Some people know they are going to make it OK without winning the lottery.

There are plenty of Stanford boosters who make big bucks who have made it clear to him they appreciate his efforts at Stanford and will see to it he isn't living on skid row if he gets hurt.

If the guy gets his leg ripped off next season and he can never walk again, he is still going to make 20 mil over the course of the next 40 years.

it may not be the money you mention, but it will be money enough.

Then you add that in to it being a job v being the BMOC with a lot of girls in the experimentation phase of life...and that goes for a guy like me (you, i am not sure), not to mention his potential earning ability, it adds up to a fun senior year.

My attitude is if you don't need to go to work because you need the money, put it off as long as possible.

My attitude is when you are young, have fun, have as much sex as possible, and worry about tomorrow the day after tomorrow.

100% Agree! He is taking a HUGE risk.. how could you pass up guaranteed mulit-millions of dollars to finish out one year?! Especially when he can go back to stanford ANYTIME. I can guarantee any one of us would take the money.. how could you not?! After all, isn't that what we are after?? He has a talent that can make him MILLIONS.. AHH what is he thinking!!??

    Anyways.. whatever.. eff him

    QB at Carolina: 65 mil/ 10 years....then who knows

Architectural design degree out of Stanford + 65mil/10 years from NFL team = running architectural design firm at age 30 through 65 = 175-300 mil over lifetime.

    300,000,000 > 65,000,000 is what he's thinking. Smart guy.

Unless the nfl as part of it's labor agreement institutes rookie salary limits

Then what does his decision look like?

Yeah he is, but why leave? Im with you..

They can take away the fancy cars, they can take away the money but they can never take away your education!

  • Life is about priorities & making decisions that are best for YOU.

It's truly amazing & refreshing that he wouldn't be swayed by money, fame, & public opinion. With character THAT strong, Andrew Luck will be successful in whatever he does.

    Good for him!

    Mike

  • When he enters the league he needs to shorten his name to "Drew" Luck. Helluva name for a football player

Manning using that degree? Sure is- it's in Speech Communication- helps him make all those effective SONY commercials. πŸ™‚

BTW, Sporting News had Peyton listed in their top 20 smartest athletes. Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Bills beats him out in that category though- honors grad at Harvard. Fitz missed a perfect score on the SAT by probably one question- had a 1580, and aced the Wunderlich.
