Let's Go Defensively with our First Pick

The Browns Board

  • Aj green or bust!

  • We need playmakers at a bunch of positions. Just give me a difference maker on either side of the ball.

  • Patrick Peterson and Haden and Ward would be an amazing trio for years to come. I am watched darius and fairley for 2 years now and they are pretty badasd too. So I think we will be in a good position when we pick.

I would love a pass rusher, don't discount another shut-down corner, especially if Peterson happened to be there. The jets are where they are not because of Sanchez but because their corners take the other team's top wideouts out of the gameplan and create an instant pass rush when the QB has to look elsewhere.

I agree with your point about a CB, but the Browns are not going to tie up that much money at corner. UNLESS we can get a guy like Asomugha in FA. We have far, far bigger needs than another shut down corner in the Draft. BTW, that would move Sheldon Brown to saftey, and Wright to #3 cb, assuming he's still around.

I don't care what our pal Rich says- defense wins championships- but just look at the management team- I think it's a given they go offense, unless Green is already off the board, OR they think they can land an impact wr in the second round. (DA Bungles got lucky with Stinko there)

Yup we need a badass run stuffin' pass rushin' monster (or three) fer sure- but Fairley isn't going to be there @ #6. And look at it the other way Z, a great pass rush makes your corners look a lot better than they are, when they don't have to cover the opposing wideouts for ten seconds. Quick, who's the corners for the Steelers- see what I mean?

If we took Peterson it would be as a safety IMHO.

kiper has green falling to us at 6..sure hope so

Would be a miracle if he does but with Luck no longer in the mix then the Panthers would be stupid to pass him up.

    Mel doesn't think so

Normally I think "The Hair" is full of it, but this time I'll have to agree. The Panthers take Green, and who's going to get him the ball? Clausen? He has the first five picks going almost exactly the way I predicted, but to be honest I've never seen Blaine Gabbert mentioned as a potential top 10 pick- frankly never heard of him before.

BTW, he has Green waiting there for the Browns @ #6.

Also heard more of Mel on late night ESPN radio, and his estimation is the draft is very deep in DE, DT, but only 3 WRs with first round credentials. That being the case if H&H see it the same way, about guaranteed they go offense first, and then hope one of the top DL falls out of the first round.

  • Would people stop suggesting we trade down already? That's usually not even an option.

mangini had no problem doing it and the pats are almost guaranteed to move back a few spots before they select a player

fwiw fans of every team always want to move back when they cant decide what player they want. or if they personally dont feel like a player is worth that high of a draft pick

  • Excatly this draft is loaded at the DT/DE/OLB postiton and theres maybe three to four top tier recievers and we need to bring one for Colt, you guys say you wanna draft defensive and everything thats fine as long as your happy playing musical caraousel at QB again because Colt dosent have anyone to throw the ball to and may regress as a player....With a young player you wanna bring in as many playmakers as you can that way he can come along slowly due to other positions Superstars, i mean seriously look at the NYJ and Sanchez hes not that great i think Colt could easily be a better QB than him but look at what he has to work with and look what Colt has to work with

Hmm, after looking at it like that... I have to agree with you Hoorta.

I was thinking more along the lines that if the Panthers want Clausen to be their guy they'd help him out by drafting Green but Clausen isn't exactly starting QB material in the NFL either.

  • The best thing any Browns fan can root for is that Blane Gillbert works out exetermly well as well say Cam Newton that way more players could fall to us, i dont personally like ethier one but hell if Buffalo takes Gillbert and Arizona takes Cam Newton then hell we will have some great options to go with

  • I am more boring than Defense -- I want to trade down and take OL.

i agree 1000%, and didn't shurmer suggest OL in his press conference? (although i doubt holmgren will let his lap dog say much on draft day.) we need so much help that any improvement at DL, RT, DE, WR would be a good thing.

  • This team needs a lot of help and we will be looking to take the best player available. Trading down IMHO is a terrible idea. The people considering that as an option are the same people saying that this team lacks playmakers. Well, guess what? You get a playmaker at #6 whichever side of the ball he is on...

The way the draft is lining up I think we will be able to get an excellent D-lineman with our 1st rounder. Something we desperately need.

  • Not sure who it was but someone on the first page mentioned that it is easier to get pressure on a QB when his receivers are locked down...I agree with this. If on the board then we should take Peterson or Prince with our first pick. Between Peterson/Prince and Haden we would have lock down CBs for years to come. Move Wright to the nickel or maybe even to a Safety spot.

Look at the NYJs, they have a lockdown duo which helps them get pressure on the QB. Additionally you can get a DL in the second round and they be just as, not equally, effective as a first rounder. Between Peterson from LSU and Prince from Nebraska we should be able to get one of the two. Peterson could also return kicks with Cribbs, what a dangerous Special Teams combo.

True we need WRs for McCoy but at the same time we need vetern WRs so I think we should get our #1 WR out of FA.

Any WR we get in FA won't be a true #1 WR. We cannot got into 2011 with the same group of WRs, however we address it. I think we should take the best player available at #6 whether its Green or someone else and worry about needs in the other picks. Because frankly the BPA is going to help no matter what position he plays.

  • Also remember that our current WRs productivity was due to Mangini's system and no solid starting QB. This year, if there is one, McCoy will be a year wiser with a new West Coast system in place. I would recommend seeing how our WRs perform in West Coast and then draft a WR next year if we still need one.

I believe Blackmon out of Ok St will be in the 2012 draft, not sure about any other WRs.

wrong. they had plenty of dink and dunk plays this season(ala WCO) and did notta. couldn't separate or weren't strong or brave enough to catch the quick slants. out of our starters, stuckey and momass are the only two worth keeping and even they aren't a #1 WR.

I want nothing to do with Prince he was torched quite a few times this season and didn't show the shutdown ability of a #1rd corner..

If you can acquire Vincent Jackson he is surely a #1 WR. If we can obtain Jackson we can wait till later rounds to draft a WR. Now wether or not Jackson would come to Cleve is another debate.
