Fat Slob Rogers

The Browns Board
52 24 4.5k
  • Well, again I get vindicated. I never wanted Rogers and wanted to trade him for a high pick three years ago. Then a medium pick two years ago. Then anything last year or cut him. Well, the Browns cut him and that is a GREAT thing. Not a single person on this board or others backed me up on my Rogers assessment. In fact I got belittled everywhere. But I have on many issues. Sometimes, when you can see the way, and the tunnel is presented backward you get attacked.

I feel good again about being forthright and astute and very good in football judgment. Shaun Rogers is just another example

Go Browns, things are looking better

and for all those who peed on my Shaun Rogers opinion I truly look forward to your Kudos for my astute judgment on yet another issue

I remember the first time I was right about something, I was around 4 years old..

    Better late than never!

Most of the successful teams in the league know when to let these types of players go.

Get rid of them for a multiple player trade or draft picks and it only makes them better.

But getting to the above average level is harder than staying at or near the top.

Maybe if you go back and read any of your posts on this forum, you'll appreciate the irony of that statement.

  • do you even know why rogers got cut? you have no idea yet you blame it on something like him being unathletic or even a good football player

he will be one of the first free agents signed this offseason because teams look for guys with his skill set. maybe the cuts had less to do with the talent and more to do with the system and coaching staff coming in eh?

Or because Heckert straight out said that Rodgers refused to practice except on Fridays and the could not get him on the field. Also said Rodgers was unmotivated due to the fact that he always played for losing teams. No one is denying that Rodgers has talent, but it was obvious that he didn't work hard at all and he had zero motivation to try.

And add in from the other thread:

"Heckert said the Browns couldn't move Rogers last year -- release or trade him -- because his $6.9 million salary was guaranteed once he made the final roster of the opening week of the season. That's true of any vested veteran (four years or more experience). "

So the Browns figured having him around for a couple plays a game was better than the nothing they would have had if they had cut him- other than the $6.9 million cap hit- and no other team wanted to pick him up at what he would have to be paid.

  • MANGINI WANTED TO DUMP HIM MINUTE ONE BUT COUDN'T

actually what you did was combine to completely separate statements

he said rogers was always on the injury report yet managed to play 15 of the 16 games

then he went on to say in a completely different statement that he felt like the fact that rogers knew he was always on a bad team had started to take a toll on him

it had nothing to do with the other previous statement

never once did he mention that rogers was lazy and didnt work hard because he didnt want to play on a bad team

  • Rich, you've criticized pretty much everything about the Browns,

now you brag about one guy who finally doesn't fit, not even one bit?

How's that Maurice Clarett NFL greatness thing workin out for ya, buddy?

  • Rogers visits the Redskins, I KNEW IT. WHERE IS THAT POST. LOL!

    Rogers visits Redskins

  • If the thing about playing for losing teams is true, why the hell would he go to the Redskins....That tells me hes more about Money than playing for a Championship

I believe that actual quote from the article is "But Heckert indicated the team was weary of Rogers' attitude and unwillingness to practice. Rogers routinely did not practice until Friday, a light preparation day. He was always listed on the injury report with ankle and hip injuries, yet somehow was active for 15 of the 16 games." Sounds more like he was being lazy and unmotivated that fighting through those injuries in order to play on Sundays. Then Heckert says in the article, "Shaun's a different cat," Heckert said. "Shaun's whole thing -- and he's stated a million times -- is that he's never been on a team that's any good. Every team he's ever been on has been bad. Right or wrong, I think it's taken a toll on him."

If he worked hard he would have practiced more last season, he would have gotten more playing time, and there is a good chance that he would still be on the team.

thats exactly what i said. you took 2 different statements and combined them and came up with your own analysis based on the combination of quotes rather than keeping them separate

had he not been hurt or had the team actually been decent, maybe he would've seen more playing time too?

regardless, after reading the other thread im convinced that his release had more to do with him wanting to leave than the team thinking he couldnt play

hes an aging vet that wants to win, i doubt he wanted to come back to a team that is in ANOTHER rebuilding phase

  • this one is for peterbell, aka mangini's son

Pair of moves hinted at divide between Mangini and Browns front office

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 13, 2011, 11:35 AM EST

Eric Mangini comes from a different coaching tree than Browns President Mike Holmgren and G.M. Tom Heckert. For the most part, it appeared the three men were able to work in harmony despite their different histories.

In an interview with the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, however, Heckert hints at the problems that can happen when a coach and his front office aren’t on the same page.

The Browns traded for Jayme Mitchell from the Vikings in October, but Mitchell never played a single snap for the defense. Heckert called that “bizarre.”

“He was by far our best pass rusher and never got on the field, so I can’t answer that one,” Heckert told Tony Grossi. “Eric watched him [on tape prior to the trade] and Eric liked him. So I don’t know what happened after that. . . . We thought he could really rush the passer.”

Translation: We made a promising trade, but Mangini didn’t want to play him. Mitchell is now an unrestricted free agent. Heckert also said Mangini lobbied to trade running back Jerome Harrison. Heckert admitted Harrison was acting like he didn’t want to be on the team, but it hurt the team’s depth.

“Once Eric wanted us to get rid of Jerome, that’s when it started [going bad],” Heckert said. “Once you get rid of that guy then it’s just tough to find guys.”

After the season, Holmgren and Heckert went about finding a new coach that will presumably have less influence on personnel moves.

No i was saying that just proves my point that hes a peice of shit who only cares about the money when hes talking to the Redskins instead of someone that will actually have a chance at making a late season run

  • So he obviously dosent care about playing for shitty teams as long as hes getting paid

And Snyder's been known to overpay for FAs.

There's no doubt Rodgers has talent- when he's motivated to play. This was a pure salary dump by the Browns- the guy wasn't worth close to the $6.9 million the Browns were going to have to pay him. Give some of the money to Rubin instead.

Rich can say he had ESP & that the Browns should never have picked up Rodgers in the first place- but the guy did make a couple of Pro Bowls.

Or had he not been a pussy he would have practiced on these so called "injuries" and had more playing time. It doesn't take some stretch of the imagination to understand that he was over blowing these or faking these injuries in order to sit on his ass most of the week because he was just sick and tired or working hard. Plus putting two quotes from the same article that came one after another in the article isn't making up my own idea. Heckert said they tried to trade him/cut him last year so I highly doubt Heckerts decision to let him go had anything to due with the fact that he wanted out.
