Still doubt Julio's Speed?

  • I have been saying for a while that I think that if we go the WR route in the first that we should trade down and take Julio Jones. He has a big frame and is stronger than any other receiver in the draft. A knock on him has been that his speed isn't there. I am watching the combine and Jones just ran a 4.43 which is better than AJ Green's 4.48. Jones may be working himself into the top ten and we may not have to trade down.

If I am not mistaken, the knock on him is his inconsistent hands.

  • Edit: Jones just posted a 4.39. Wow, to have that size and speed is rare. I like him even more now. This guy may be working himself ahead of Green.

That is a concern that I have heard but I have also heard mumblings about his speed. This just busted that.

  • Also, Jones is not close to being the prospect that AJ Green is. If we could get him at 2.6, I would be happy but taking Jones in the top 20 will be a mistake.

I've seen EVERY single Alabama game for the past 12 years, so I can tell you more about Alabama players than most "pundits". I can tell you myself, Julio Jones' hands are a big issue. He's not a sure thing.

AJ Green is. Speed isn't everything. Like the delivery guy said, he'd be a huge mistake

I'll take your word for it. You know more about him than I do. I thought his hands weren't on the same level as T.O. or Braylon. I trust your judgement though.

Just curious, what exactly makes Green the better prospect? I know that speed isn't everything but it can be important.

  • Both make exciting plays. Green seems to make the routine plays more often than does Jones.

The speed is important, but Green isn't slow, so the difference between the two really won't translate in to more big plays by Jones.

Hands, Route running, body control, and size.

  • Remember the name leonard hankerson, also google what a norwegin ice rocket is

  • Yeah, I would LOVE to be confident in the drafting of Jones, but good hands in a WCO are VITAL. As we also know, great size, speed, athleticism & poor concentration/hands do NOT make a recipe for success. That kid is a major question mark. I'll place my confidence in Heckert & company coupled with what looks to be a pretty solid Coaching staff.

i agree.. I think if he slips to the 3rd rd he will be a good grab. Hehas the physical tools just needs to work on sataying focused

Can someone give me a report on Jon Baldwin? Haven't seen a Pitt game all year, and he could be an option at the 2nd round if we don't draft AJ Green in the 1st.

Going by what they were saying at the combine, he needs work on route running and was just asked to mainly go vertical in college. To me, it sounded like he may not be a good fit for the WCO. I could be wrong though.

  • Havent go to watch the Combine but i cant say im not surprized still Green over Jones anyday of the week

  • Julio jones is having himself a great combine.

But really do we really care how far someone can jump? I understand the 40 drill and some of the others, but long jump?

if I was there I would have them do there end zone dance instead of the long jump

I think Jumping is great test to see how high you can jump. As a receiver, your skill of jumping is an important asset, and jumping for a jumpball is very much an integral part of the game.

....as long as you LAND with the ball in your hands.
