Browns Trade #6 Overall To Atlanta
-
Browns trade #6 overall to Atlanta and receive: #27 pick this year + 2nd round & 4th round pick this year, and 1st round pick and 4th round pick next season.
The Browns now have the 27th, 37th, 59th and 70th choices in this draft.

anti-climatic.... we'll see says the zen master. The 1st round pick next year isnt even worth a lot because Atlanta will be in the playoffs itll be mid 20's or higher.......
So will we, so we can package them both and pick in the first hour again if you want someone of need.

I'd have to agree that #1 pick next year isn't going to be above #20. I wonder if there is a stipulation in the deal?? Say.. Atlanta falls on their face next year and lands in the top 10, will the Browns keep that pick??

Well the way I look at it is they have just picked up another wild card in a game of poker. We can keep the pick and see what it brings us next year or we can use it in another trade and get even more picks in this year and nexts draft.

I didn't like it at first but then when I thought about it, it was the right move. We need a lot of players right now and we get their 2nd this year as well. As well as their 1st next year(which will likely be in the 20s but still), and some late rounders this/next year.
I would have hated it if Green was available, but alas, he wasn't.
Definitely like Heckert so much better than what we had before (Mangini who was worse, and then Savage who was 1000000x worse). He definitely knows what he's doing.
-
One thing about this: Now he has to absolutely hit on those players.. can't miss on any of them. It's not OK to get just 2 serviceable starters out of those 3 extra picks this year - when we could have had an impact starter.
Hopefully Holmgren packages one or more of those picks to move back up for Jimmy Smith.

dumb comment. still a first rounder. NE doesn't just collect late first rounders and second round picks because they're worthless.

It's hard to embrace this right now, we'll just have to wait & see, & trust our front office.

What are you talking about, we raped the Falcons in this trade, we got freakin 5 pics from them. You build team through the draft and we just got more draft picks, and high ones to help this team.

Well I changed my mind as the 1st round developed... THEN we traded UP and ruined it to REACH. Awesome.
Sorry, not that huge a reach. Just because some "rankings" had him slotted 10 spots lower? You want to talk about a HUGE reach, that would be the Vikings taking Ponder @ #12.
Yeah, we "reached" last year for TJ Ward- how did that one turn out?

This trade was absolutely amazing. Until we traded up. I think we may have been able to get him when we picked but, not too sure. This guy could turn out to be Richard Semour which we would all take,

They only traded a third rounder to move up. Not too bad of a trade. Who knows if he would have still been there. It's nice to have two first rounders next year.

I know we got extra picks, which may turn out to be a great, wonderful, exciting, you name the adjective thing.
I'm just saying we have no way of knowing how this will pan out, and neither does our front office. Forgive me if I'm sounding negative, it's just my take...I'm as big of a fan who's ever lived, believe me.
I hope we can get Ayers from UCLA,. we need speed real bad.

Big Friggin Deal..watch Julio Jones blow up and be an all time great! while the Browns 5 picks are mutts.
Happens all the time...still no skilled position players??? yawn!!

Or, maybe he will end up being a Charles Rogers or Mike Williams.
One a complete bust, the other a 2d or 3rd receiver on a mediocre team.

Remember when Savage would spend his top picks on the likes of Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow? Yeah.
The whole reason why the Browns have to draft fat guys who shore the lines on both sides is because of the horrible past management. The Tim Couch pick crippled the Browns for years as well. The Falcons are in a position to be able to take a player like Jones where as the Browns would rather have more players, of course if I were running Atlanta I'd have gotten a pass rusher with the 27th pick and traded up in the 20s range for a guy like Baldwin to be the #2 over there. Or maybe trade up, get Amukamara or Jimmy Smith since they have secondary needs, then get Baldwin.
Regardless, they're in a better position to take a player like Jones than the Browns who have several more needs than them.
The only good top pick prior to Heckert and Mangini's regime since the Browns' return was Joe Thomas, that's it.

One of the best posts so far...
Exactly right. This team is not a playoff contender until 2013 at the soonest. Build through the draft and success will follow.
Tim Couch, Courtney Brown, Gerard Warren, Winslow, Edwards.... See the trend?...
Joe Thomas, Alex Mack, Phil Taylor (if he doesn't blow up to 400 lbs).... See the trend?... Build from the trenches up and you will see LASTING improvement.
