Yes, the title of this thread is intended to rile a bit, but honestly, the Browns need a WR who has experience in the North/West Coast Offense, who can provide leadership to a young WR corps, and who can get separation from DBs. T.O. proved he can still do that last year. The only part of the equation above that is an obvious concern is the "provide leadership" part. Yes, we could use him as a receiver, but no, we don't need him to be teaching primadonna behavior to the likes of Greg Little. But I think it might be worth the risk to sign him up. They can release Robo and give his wasted spot on the roster to Owens.

i wanted to go after Vincent Jackson. So would i want TO? Hell yes.
Imagine the spark he would provide to the lockeroom. Who would be a bigger spark- TO or Robo? Please don't give me the youth argument. Robo is taking up a roster spot until next year- same as TO would be.
Prima Donna? Maybe once. But anyone willing to play for the Bills and the Bengals is welcome to join my team. i like it. He's a winner, same as Colt.

the guy is a dick BUT he does keep himself in phenomenal shape (when healthy). if he can play cut robo and sign him.
let's just hope that cinci's defense is better than a lot that we'll see this year or else no one will be catching any passes except a screen pass or last week's fave: the 2 yard down and out.

If we can't beat the manning less colts we may not win a game all year.
It is time lerner hired me.. I could do a better job.
First thing I would do is get rid of holmgren and heckert. I could hire tons of fluffers for everyone with the money were paying them.
I have built championship teams in madden for a decade and I'm always under the salary cap..

You should start sending your resume out to all NFL teams looking for a GM job. I'm sure they're looking for someone who's only claim to anything is the ability to build a winning team on a video game.

For everyones information jake and I did argue many times in many different threads about needing a play maker wrs.
rebel and jake sittin' in a tree..........
who gives a FXXK? what do you want a medal or a chest to pin it on?
we've got a lot more problems at the OL. wouldn't it be great if mccoy could just sit in the pocket all day long like brady does?

Weird, I thought the same thing. Shockingly I haven't got one call back from one nfl team. I guess since I'm not a jew I get passed over.
I have other things besides just my video game skills. I got an a in my bowling class.

Lmao...yeah, one over-the-hill WR is gonna help a beat up OL, a jittery QB, and a shitty coach. Great plan!!
Actually, YES, it just might help. Will it solve all the problems of the universe? No. But it might help some.
It's like, if you owe someone $10,000.00 and you find a hundred bucks. It helps, but it don't pay off your 10K debt.

It helps more than Robo who is like an old crusty penny laying in the gutter.

it MIGHT help? exactly....thats the point. many other issues to be worrying about rather than a 36 WR with an attitude problem that will destroy this team if he doesn't get the ball....and with the other problems i mentioned....he wont get the ball.

Who's fault are all of those things?
I guess we should just do nothing and continue sucking FFE... sound's good.
now youre talking about fault? does that make the arguement i presented any less valid? we are where we are, and this is your only retort? so i guess you think doing someting even if its wrong is a good idea. gotcha...
panic everyone! the offense didn't work so its obvious we must go grab a problemm child receiver whose best days are brhind him. is this all you can come up with? lmao...actually...it is.
so just so i got this right: your solution to a swiss chees OL that barely provided time for a 3 step drop and a green QB is to sigh a WR with an attitude problem thats as old as dirt. this helps the situation exactly how? are one of the DE's gonna peel off to cover him? perhaps TO is such a threat that they are gonna quadruple team him? what about the terrible play calling.....how does adding a guy that caught passes from steve xxxxing young help shurmurs inability to manage the offense?
i gotta believe this shits a joke...cause otherwise, im severely disappointed in the collective football intelligence around here. seriously....as bad a this team looked in ONE game of the season against an above average defense, the collective cleveland braintrust around here decides that going to an ancient free agent is gonna even slightly help these offenseive woes is laughable at best...pathetic at worst. im surely not happy about what i saw, but the fact yall are shitting your pants after one game (following 10+ years of absolute suckitude) and proposing such a stupid xxxxing solution simply shows me you dont even know what your watching.
we've already gone down the rent a player road year in and year out with this franchise....yet despite the fact that several other successful franchises provide a blueprint for how to build not only a winner, but a long term winner; we still have to discuss stupid topics like this that only provide a temporary patch....at best....and forego whats in the best interest of the franchise just to possibly win an extra game or 2. 7-9 sure is a whole lot fucing better than 5-11 isn't it? recent history has shown you just how much moves like this pay off...and despite those repeated failures, the solution is to go down the same road frequently traveled by this franchise because its gonna work this time. got it....i cant believe i didn't think of it...
futility...look up the meaning of it....
otherwise, have some xxxxing patience....youve only been watching shitty football for 10...20...30...40 years now. whats a few more years gonna hurt...lmao!

Couple of things. Saw he was coming off ACL surgery. That's usually a full year until you're up to full speed- doubly if you're 38 years old like Owens. EDIT Right now if you put TO in a 40 race against Slow-biski, my money's on Slow-biski.
Second, Owens isn't going to work for vet minimum, which is all he's worth. Third, Owens has worn out his welcome on every stinking team he's ever played on in the NFL. Yeah, WRREBEL is smarter than every GM in the NFL- because if Owens was worth two cents, someone would have signed him by now.

Are you people nuts? Every time I read what I think is the dumbest topic yet, someone comes up with this kind of nonsense.
Jets, Chargers, Pats, Cowboys,Ravens........ you get it? Teams that will actually make the playoffs.
What goes through your heads to post shit like this? The guy is an HOF caliber player, at the end of his career, trying to enjoy it one last time............. and he is going to choose The Shit Cleveland Browns?
Oh wait, I get it, you think we is interested in taking a shit 4 - 12 team (Lerner era) and perhaps getting us the elusive win over the Bengals?
Hey, why not sign Favre? I am sure once he hears that TO is coming, he'll have the first non stop flight to Berea.
The Great Pumpkin
Jimmy Hoffa
Lochness Monster
Bigfoot
UFOs
ETs
A short list of other things you won't see in Cleveland, OR ANYWHERE else for that matter.
Good grief.
LMFAO. You sir...are so entertaining to read on here. Let me ask you a fair question though...since you have been screaming about landing star free agents. If we can't get T.O. (who your assessment about is accurate) what makes you think we'll land a Vincent Jackson, or whoever some of us wet dream about? I explained this in another thread...we have a small media market and guys the likes of a T.O. or Vincent Jackson want astronomical amounts of money...to be on a contending team (you said it not me)....and a large media market. Bottom line is...unless someone of that caliber just commits a random act of kindness...I really can't see it. On the other hand...there are some guys still in FA that can contribute but there No T.O. or Vincent Jackson. I agree that spending nothing in free agency was a mistake however, so is dumping at least half of that $32 million into the already deep pockets of Vincent Jackson or T.O.
-
signing T.O would be a joke move and embarresing to our organization. It reeks of desperation from the front office.
The free agency money should be spent on defensive players and offensive lineman. This teams identity needs to be about running the football well, playing hard-nosed defense, and outplaying your opponent on special teams. The west coast offense should be utilized for balance, but we don't have the personell to use it as a pass happy offense the way Shurmur wants it to be.
What made me sick the most about last week's game was all of the third and longs. We need to control the tempo of the game by shoving Hillis down the defenses throat. If our lineman can't create any holes then that has to be the first issue addressed if you're going to go out and look for free agents. Wide receivers need about 3-4 seconds to get adequate seperation. If your o-line sux and lets the opposition's d-line get to Colt and completely collapse the pocket in 1 second, how the hell are the receivers expected to make plays downfield.
Everyone knows that we need an upgrade at receiver, but many productive receivers are really the product of the system they play in. If you have a coach that has shitty play calling, an inconsistent and thin o-line, a quarterback who is still UNPROVEN and shell-shocked a bit at the speed of the NFL game , then you're not going to be very productive at wide receiver.

And he'll continue to be UNPROVEN unless he gets out there and plays. He's really not the problem. The problem is as you said the O-Line and lack luster performance from our WR. The WCO can and will work as long as it's used as it's designed. Throwing the ball 40 times is not WCO. That a pass happy offense. By design it's supposed to make achieving balance easier. Key word "balance". Throwing money down a bottomless pit only to get enough production for maybe two more wins isn't good business. Unless of course these star studded free agents can punt and play defense as well.

BUZZZZZZ//////WRONG.

Of course nothing is guaranteed. It isn't guaranteed that if you obtain a FA in the prime of his career that he will play a single down for your team (Can you say LeCharled Bentley).....but sometimes you have to take a chance if you think it is worth the risk. Maybe the Browns don't think TO is worth the risk. Nevertheless, I thought that the suggestiom might be worth making....considering that it seems that none of our WR can ever get open.

When I wrote the original post I didn't recall that he had the ACL problem. That would obviously be a factor.

Whoa before this gets out of hand I was refering to the several comments I've read that refer to Heckert. Like this one. Not by me.
"All the people who baught the kool aid on the front office. I'm afraid to say heckert is a Retarded jew. It doesn't take a football guru to tell our wrs are slow."
-
Come on. Do you guys understand how rebuilding works? Heckert/Holmgren drafted Little this year and will draft more WR's over the next couple of years. You have to realize that we are shallow in so many positions that we can't cover them all in only 1 draft (or a few drafts for that matter). The Browns front office just chose defensive line over the wr position this offseason. We have 2 1st round picks this offseason and I guarantee you one of them will be WR or an offensive lineman if not both..
The only thing I have been disappointed with is that Holmgren didn't get rid of Mangini right away. I did not dislike Mangini per se, but it was clear that Holmgren wanted to rebuild his own way. He just set the rebuilding process back a couple years by waiting a year to make a move.
