What's Going On With Peyton Hillis?

They drafted Little he's a wide receiver. And, it's Julio not Julion.
It's a typo numbnuts...did you ever hear of Julion down by the schoolyard?..
Sheeesh!
and yeah...Little just puts the fear of GOD into DB's...
c'mon dude

Cause getting two good DT and WR out of the deal was sooooo shitty. You draft Julio Jones and we are no closer to winning last week or losing this week than we were.

I don't think that's true. There's a lot of talent on the Colts team.
I don't think that's true. There's a lot of talent on the Colts team.
Oh really? Where?
Austin Collie - Average without Manning
Pierre Garcon - Average without Manning
Anthony Gonzalez - Average without Manning
Reggie Wayne - Elite talent but getting towards the back end of his career
Dwight Freeney - Elite talent but getting towards the end of his career and injuries have flared up. He's still elite
Robert Mathis - Above average but isn't the same kind of studly that he used to be
Antoine Bethea - Above average
Gary Bracket - The only solid LB and he's getting way up there and he's never been elite or even above average in my opinion, just solid
Joesph Addai - Marginal, especially without Peyton
Delone Carter - Could be very solid but right now he's not going to do a damn thing with Collins under center.
Jeff Saturday - very good center (The rest of the line is marginal)
The above are the most notable.
I could go through the entire roster like this and maybe 5 or 6 guys have top end talent. The Colts have always been putrid against the run. Bob Sanders is gone and he's a shell of his former self anyway. Kelvin Hayden is now a falcon so now they're relying on a guy like Powers. As sad as it is Peyton Manning is that team. Sooooooo where is this "a lot of talent" on the Colts roster? They are putrid without Peyton Manning.

He is fine.. he is still a stud and I still want to do him...
The offense is gonna go through growing pains..

Ah yeah, 94 WHOPPING yards in 27 carries? Against a weak team? Yes, he is a regular HOF er waiting to happen. 3.5 yards per carry, in an era when running the football is easier than in Browns day.
Hillis is good, not great. We need a runner like Mendenhall or Addai.
We are better off with Hillis because with the injuries to our OL, and the loss of Vickers which cannot be underestimated, we need someone that that get yards with 2-3 guys on him, because we don't have the blocking. Mendenhall and Addai do NOT have that same skill.
Maybe they are a little quicker on the edge, but then Hillis showed on that TD run that he can get the edge as well.
Those other guys would never even see the edge with poor blocking.

You mean the same weak team that hasnt missed the playoffs in the last what, 8 or so years?
It's funny how you think you would make a better coach/player then anyone in the NFL. Keep rooting for the squeelers chubby.
I've been staying out of this sh.it show but here you are pulling me back in to the ring. I didn't get to watch the game but I did see the highlights and I did get to watch the Colts week 1. The Colts without Peyton Manning are far from a playoff team. The Colts without Peyton Manning are immediately in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes with Kansas City assuming Manning doesn't recover. If he does they're still selecting inside the top 5 and I'd argue the top two. A win is most certainly a win and you take them with a smile no matter what. However to IMPLY that the Colts hitting the field now are the same colts that haven't missed the playoffs in 8 years is so xxxxing dumb it gives me a stomach ache. Manning hid A LOT of the glaring problems with that roster. No manning neuters Reggie Wayne and all those "above average" receivers after Wayne are immediately average outside of Dallas Clark. You take the win this week but I wouldn't parade around celebrating it. Just like I'm not running around celebrating the shutout against the Seahawks. Last I checked the Steelers got murdered week 1. Take the win and move on, a one legged cripple could beat a Kerry Collins lead Colts team.

Fair statement. I agree that the Colts without Manning may be in the bottom 5 teams. (But its not just him, they have lost other good players as well. Though I am not so sure that Kerry Collins is all that bad...and least no worse than about a half dozen or so other QBs in this league right now. So? Le Roi, c'est morte. Vive Le Roi.
Don't ask me to shed any tears for the Colts. They had a hell of a run. Now may come the Age of the DumbAssTexans in the AFC South.

Hillis is a great prospect and is looking like he will be very good..........but don't anoint him just yet...........time will tell.
I don't think anyone has annointed him a Hall of Famer...but perhaps a Pro Bowler or at least just a damn good RB which the team needs and who is very popular with the style he runs. He didn't make the Madden game cover just on the strength of those Browns fans who support him....or, maybe he did.

Yea, let's see: Since the days of Mack and Byner we have had the likes of Tommy Vardell, Leroy Hoard, Terry Kirby, Travice Prentice, William Green, Lee Sugss, Ruben Droughns, Jamal Lewis, Jerome Harrison, and the like.
No one likely to let us forget Jim Browns and Leroy Kelley (or even Mike Pruitt and Mack and Byner).
Droughns and Lewis had a couple of OK years here, but we got them at the tail end of their careers, not in their prime. So, yea, Hillis seems that he should become the man in the Browns backfield. (and by the way, the year that Droughns was here and both years for Lewis, they each carried the rock more times than Hillis did last year)

Ever hear of Derek Anderson?
Yea. Sure, had he continued to play the way he played in 2007, which was a Pro Bowl year for him, he would probably still be the QB of this team. He clearly did not continue to play that way.
For Hillis there are only 2 things that would lead to him not continuing to be the player he has been the last year:
Injury, obviously. That is true with any player.
And if this O-line continues to have problems like it has, with retirements and injuries, no RB will get far that way...and it would probably lead to injury.
In theory I guess the other thing that could happen is that a Montario Hardesty could come along and prove that he is a superstar RB. But somehow, I don't think that will happen.

To a large extent I agree with your take. Outside of Mathis & Freeney, the Colt's D is very average, and Bracket (team captain and defensive signal caller) didn't even play. Gannon did comment the Colt's D is designed to protect leads, not play from behind. I was really happy that the Browns finally figured out a way to close out an opponent though.
FWIW, I think if the Steelers play an error free game Sunday night they will officially turn this year's edition of the Colts into a dead horse. The only thing that makes me hesitant to predict a Pittsburgh laugher blowout is it's National TV, and the Colts have their backs against the wall. Manning does make everyone around him better when he's in. Makes average receivers Pro Bowlers, and makes garbage look at least average. BTW, my neurologist pal says eight weeks minimum before Manning will even be able to practice- they will do MRIs to make certain the bones have fused. My brother in law had the identical surgery, I don't look to see Manning back on the field much before the end of November, if at all. Yeah, the Colts could well be 2-10 by that time, their game against Kansas City in October could be the Luck Bowl. But I disagree about the one legged cripple. They did have Hillis bottled up for most of the game.

So basically you are saying that we can't get excited about any player playing well until they have had several good years? We are just happy we have a guy that we can rely on at running back. Sure that could change but right now its a fact. The only person to mention hall of fame was you! You are so full of it. The same thing could be said of the Steelers WR Mike Wallace. You already have him in your hall of fame..

I agree on Collins to a point but he was never very good in Tennessee with plenty of time to prepare. If I were the Colts I'd pick up a guy like David Garrard. As far as Sanders is concerned I would have never called him the "heart and soul of the defense' but he was certainly one of their defensive leaders. His injury woes are what did him in and I'm honestly surprised he's on a roster at all right now. As far as "Shedding a tear for the Colts" is concerned I was merely pointing out that the roster has always been mostly Peyton Manning. His ability on offense allowed the team to cover their glaring problems on defense. They've always been able to outscore, rarely have they defended to victory.

Yea, but note, like I posted elsewhere, before yesterday the last 3 Browns Colts game ended 10-6, 13-6 and 9-6 all won by the Colts. In those at least, they clearly "defended" themselves to victories. Aberrations perhaps, but they could and did do it.

I'm not trying to be a troll with this next statement but they were playing the Browns. The Colts have never been known for their defense and despite having a few solid years overall as a team defense most of the problems were covered up by Manning on the other side. Bottom line and for the sake of avoiding additional arguments about arguments the Colts are putrid without Manning. It's just the first time we've had to see it in great detail because Manning hasn't missed any games until now.

I agree. The Colts aren't the Colts we have known.
It might sound good to beat them, but if one uses them as the barometer, you aren't going to win many games.
A win is a win and extra good if it evens the record, but nobody should get too excited over this.

I think we should be excited about getting a win no matter who we were playing. The Colts are no where near the team they are with Manning playing but you play the teams on the schedule. No one felt sorry for us when we were starting Spurgeon Wynn and all those other wonderful quarterbacks we've tried.
I think we beat Miami this week...how long since we had a winning record??

I don't think you're going to beat Miami. You have no real answer for Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess is a tank underneath. They've had two tough match ups with the Patriots week 1 and the emerging Texans week 2. They're going to be pissed and ready to grab a "W". Your defense isn't going to have a good time with Marshall or Bess for that matter. I won't say it's not possible but I'll be surprised if the Browns pull it out.
-
now if only they had a QB to get marshal and bess the ball....
Henne hasn't been bad. As I said before two tough match ups to start the season. Brandon Marshall had a load of catches week 1. Henne was 30 for 49 which completion percentage wise isn't the greatest BUT he through for 419 and 2 td's (1 int) Marshall had 7 for 139, Bess 5 for 92. His performance week 2 was more marginal at 1 td/1 int and 170 yards through the air but the Houston defense is emerging. I don't expect a Cleveland win week 3.
