25 Year Season Ticket Holder Thrown Out For Excessive Standing.

Effin generation x yuppies piss and moan about anything. These kids would have never lasted at old muni stadium where we baby boomers cut our teeth. jest sayin'. FTW
I think you miss the point. And how would you know if it was Baby Boomers, Gen X, or Millenials who were complaining? I am Gen X, so were the two people I didn't know sitting next to me at Sunday's game. The people in front of us kept standing up. They were the only people in the section doing it. It was very annoying. But not because I wouldn't be happy to stand during the game, because it is rude. Wouldn't bother me one bit but I am sure that there are many people that wouldn't want to stand for most of the game. They could have health issues like a bad knee or something else, and not be able to stand for long periods. Oh and they also all PAID for a SEAT, not a standing room only ticket! If people start standing then they aren't being considerate. There were many plays I watched on the screen in the endzone because I couldn't see the field. I wouldn't stand and be disrespectful to the people behind me. Fans need to have respect for the game and respect for those people around them. If somebody complained and he was asked by security to sit and didn't comply then I have no problem with him being tossed out. If they have to toss one ticket holder to keep many happy then that is good business, and the right call. The people around him are likely long time ticket holders as well.
With that geing said, everybody in my section was standing at the end of the game when the game was really exciting. And that was ok because the game dictated that it was one of those get up and get into it times. Maybe if the Browns can keep getting better people can stand more often and not worry about it.

You hit it right on the head, it comes down to respecting the people behind you. The samething could be said about some of the vendors that stand in the isles and watch the game, get the hell out of the way

The man got kicked out for standing during a timeout, any other arguement about prewarnings etc mean nothing.... Kicked out during a Timeout guys, get the xxxx out of here lol

I hate to sound like I am old but perhaps I am.
I know at college games we always stood. I can't tell you what the seats at DKR-Memorial Stadium in Austin feel like cause the only time any of us ever sat was if they were puking.
That said, this comes down to respect. I have a bad back and spend tons of time on my feet all week long. I don't mind standing at key points in the game and making noise but I certainly can't stsand for a whole game. If everyone in my section was standing...I would suck it up. If it's just two guys...that's asking a lot.
We've evolved into a tremendously inconsiderate and rude society. We impose on others without care, especially strangers.
My brother is a Jets season ticket holder and we went to the opener against the Cowboys. His section is generally pretty tame (he has good seats) but I'll be damned if the two "gangsta dudes" in front of us didn't stand the whole game despite numerous people asking them to sit down. If they focused on the game perhaps...JUST PERHAPS....I could cut them a break but they would check their cellphones and text and facebook etc.
They knew it was pissing people off and yet they did it anyway.
I was in Cleveland last year and had tremendous seats and it was very cordial. There was no issue with this.
It's all about being considerate.

Agreed.
Some fans are just obnoxious. They think we paid money to watch them rather than the game. i'm glad this fan is gone. (But Zombo might be right too- depends on the score and quarter)

yeah when the tickets were fxxkin 30 bucks in the dog pound. you wanna sit in the dog pound in the first ten rows? fine. then deal with it. but if you're half way up the bowl and you're not getting the tv time why be a fxxkin fool. sit your ass down.
i didn't realize (with my gen x ass) that going to see korn at an open air concert meant that if you were in the first 20 rows you better be ready to get elbowed in the head when the first chord was played and it turned into a mosh pit. well i learned real fast and made my way to the bar section where people who didn't want to get slammed and wanted to actually see the show went. why is it different at a football game?
no fxxkin consideration for anyone at anytime nowadays. your grandfather's would be rollin in their graves reading your swill about how you act up in public. in fact you would have probably been beat and hauled off.
they just asked him to sit the fxxk down, probably the little kid behind had missed 3/4s of the game because of the fxxking dickbag.

Standing during an exciting play, while still idiotic, is understandable. But these assholes who stand up for 90% of the game?
He got what he fkcuking deserved.
you pay for a SEAT........... not a place to stand.
Me? I would report the dumb cog-sucker too. If I am sitting down, having a hot dog, getting a hand job from some blonde realtor chick under the blanket, I don't need some goddamned goober standing up to block my view.
Sit the fkcuck down or don't go to the game.
I hope the guy chokes on a sandwich Sunday.
Ghoolie, If I'm getting a hand job or perhaps a mouth hug from a hot blonde, chances are I'm not giving a shit about the game at that moment.
In fact the more people standing the better, because there is less of a chance of getting caught!

LOL! That place was insane! Remember when Ocho Stinko jumped into the Dawg Pound? Were that at the old stadium, I don't think he would have come out in one piece! Seriously though there is a fine line. Some people do go overboard, but standing up isn't worth snitching on them! Maybe he was just trying to hype up the fans in the section. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

Lol what? I could be wrong but I'd think ocho cinco would have been in middle school or high school then.

Maybe I wasn't clear in what I meant in reference to Ocho Cinco jumping into the Dawg Pound. If an opposing player would have done that back in the day at the old Stadium, wouldn't you agree that it could have gotten pretty ugly?

I doubt it was for that.
My guess is he had been warned numerous times, and not just this last game.
He obviously was too dense to get the message and very possibly started spouting off.
As I have said before....go in to a crowded movie and stand up to watch the flick.
See how long it takes for people to start yelling at you.
Another knucklehead gone from the stadium....sounds good to me.
-
This knucklehead was interviewed live on WTAM this morning. He admitted that he has been a chronic "stander" for years and, in essence, feels that it is his right to do so. He complained that he was only warned by officials (Browns security AND Tenable security) only "3 or 4 times" before he was ejected. Then he explained his views as to when it should be acceptable to stand in front of other people. What a joke. i'm glad the team is cracking down.

Clearly he had the right to stand. Now he has the right to accept the consequences of that decision.

Most people who are able, will jump to their feet when something exciting happens. Group awareness tells you when to sit back down. No one in the stands pays "admission" to the stadium for a game that I'm aware of. We pay for a seat from which, presumably, there's a view of the game, not some goober's backside. I'm glad the Browns organization is willing to take steps to make sure I get what I paid for.
-
Not allowed to stand at a football game? I remember a time at the old Cleveland Browns stadium when my family and I would be pissed at the people sitting.
-
It isn't "standing".
It's "standing so long in front of other people, that they can't see around you, and you
are being a disruptive and ignorant jerk" maybe.
I'm figuring the entire attendance wasn't thrown out, so...
it's one guy who was looking for trouble... or just stoned and thought that
if he sat down, he'd be nabbed by the devil or something.
I remember the NASCAR race we went to a few years ago - Charlotte raceway.
There were two guys who were drunk. They stood up the entire time, and every....single....lap....
they gave the finger to Jimmy Johnson because they didn't like him. And every time, they called him
something really vulgar.
Until they were escorted out of the place calmly by four security guys. I suppose, that some article was written
about the poor two NASCAR fans who got kicked out for just standing up and having fun. eh....
-
I think this part of his story says all we need to know about the guy "According to Stipe, "excessive standing" has become a bit of a no-no at Cleveland Browns Stadium over the last few seasons. Last year, he was also scolded for the offense and three sheriff's deputies were sent to meet him outside the bathroom to tell him to use his seat more." You really think three sheriff's deputies were tracking him down at the mens room simply for excessive standing?
Oh, and how is a 35 year old a 25 year season ticket holder?
-
After letting more of the facts come out for this issue, it does really seem like this is the type of guy who's a loudmouth douche who gets drunk and stands the whole game. We've all seen the type, and frankly i'm glad they did something about it. I hate those people who feel they have the right to say and do whatever they want just because their in a football stadium. This is a sidebar but I was raised to never curse around women and children at all costs. I know that's a dying breed of people but still, the way people act in football stadiums is just ridiculous to me. Enjoy the game, stand and cheer, get a little mad but show respect for everyone around you too. I don't see why that's so damn hard.
-
If he had tickets for that long maybe they could have escorted him to the top of his section. Stand all you want. If its all full you upgrade who ever was sitting there. Problem solved.

If you read the article, those "season tickets" really aren't his- they belong to someone else in the group of 12. FWIW, I'm not the "season ticket holder of record" for my tickets- my lifelong friend is. We could pay the Browns $50 and put two in my name- but then I'd be back at square one on seniority. And it does bring up an interesting point- pretty sure the guy just got kicked out- not PSL revoked. If that happened and I was the owner of the PSL that got canceled- it would be the last time that guy ever sat with me. You can take it to the bank the "ticket holder of record" is going to get a real nasty letter from Lew Merletti explaining in exact terms if this ever happens again, your PSLs are going to get revoked. For certain- I've seen people kicked out before in my section (usually at Steeler games) and trust me- you have to be a complete A-hole to get the boot.

As the browns culture revamps itself to one of winning and becomes relevant again we can expect to see the fanbase return to a more ravenous, excited pumped up fanbase and as such there will be more to cheer for and about so standing for longer periods of time will likely become more common, imho being loud and proud is part of being the 12th man on the field and there is times in a game that everyone should be on their feet and raising hell..
I am not for or against standing for as long as a fan wants but i am for courtesy and taking into consideration where my seats are located and if someone behind me tells me i am interrupting their view of the game by standing to much or the stadium security warns me as much i am going to sit down and cheer until those in front of me stand and i cant see then i will rise to watch the play unfold cheer or jeer appropriately and then sit back down..
Those like this guy and his buddies that stand at or near the front for most of the game and cause others behind them to have to stand just to see any or most of the game need to consider swapping psls to somewhere out of the way or be prepared to get booted frequently..
-
having to be told that you are inconveniencing someone is my point exactly. where's the common decency in this country anymore? you should know you are doing it. it's all about what's mine is mine and fxxk the other guy.
having to be told that you are being a douche probably means you're a douche.

I saw that in the article. It's partly why I pointed out the part about 25 year season ticket holder. The guy tries to make it out at first like he's some life long customer, but he's not. The person who owns those PSL is the person that's probably been a 25 year season ticket holder. I bet you are right that the holder of record gets a letter explaining it.
If the guy saying sheriffs have tracked him down before doesn't give away that this guy is far more likely the same type of person you described from Steelers games getting booted, his quote of "I hate the people who sit down at a game" does. Some one who would say they hate those people is not likely the type of person who will politely sit (and not stand back up 30 seconds later) when the people behind him ask him to.
