I doubt it was for that.
My guess is he had been warned numerous times, and not just this last game.
He obviously was too dense to get the message and very possibly started spouting off.
As I have said before....go in to a crowded movie and stand up to watch the flick.
See how long it takes for people to start yelling at you.
Another knucklehead gone from the stadium....sounds good to me.

This knucklehead was interviewed live on WTAM this morning. He admitted that he has been a chronic "stander" for years and, in essence, feels that it is his right to do so. He complained that he was only warned by officials (Browns security AND Tenable security) only "3 or 4 times" before he was ejected. Then he explained his views as to when it should be acceptable to stand in front of other people. What a joke. i'm glad the team is cracking down.

Clearly he had the right to stand. Now he has the right to accept the consequences of that decision.

Most people who are able, will jump to their feet when something exciting happens. Group awareness tells you when to sit back down. No one in the stands pays "admission" to the stadium for a game that I'm aware of. We pay for a seat from which, presumably, there's a view of the game, not some goober's backside. I'm glad the Browns organization is willing to take steps to make sure I get what I paid for.
-
Not allowed to stand at a football game? I remember a time at the old Cleveland Browns stadium when my family and I would be pissed at the people sitting.
-
It isn't "standing".
It's "standing so long in front of other people, that they can't see around you, and you
are being a disruptive and ignorant jerk" maybe.
I'm figuring the entire attendance wasn't thrown out, so...
it's one guy who was looking for trouble... or just stoned and thought that
if he sat down, he'd be nabbed by the devil or something.
I remember the NASCAR race we went to a few years ago - Charlotte raceway.
There were two guys who were drunk. They stood up the entire time, and every....single....lap....
they gave the finger to Jimmy Johnson because they didn't like him. And every time, they called him
something really vulgar.
Until they were escorted out of the place calmly by four security guys. I suppose, that some article was written
about the poor two NASCAR fans who got kicked out for just standing up and having fun. eh....
-
I think this part of his story says all we need to know about the guy "According to Stipe, "excessive standing" has become a bit of a no-no at Cleveland Browns Stadium over the last few seasons. Last year, he was also scolded for the offense and three sheriff's deputies were sent to meet him outside the bathroom to tell him to use his seat more." You really think three sheriff's deputies were tracking him down at the mens room simply for excessive standing?
Oh, and how is a 35 year old a 25 year season ticket holder?
-
After letting more of the facts come out for this issue, it does really seem like this is the type of guy who's a loudmouth douche who gets drunk and stands the whole game. We've all seen the type, and frankly i'm glad they did something about it. I hate those people who feel they have the right to say and do whatever they want just because their in a football stadium. This is a sidebar but I was raised to never curse around women and children at all costs. I know that's a dying breed of people but still, the way people act in football stadiums is just ridiculous to me. Enjoy the game, stand and cheer, get a little mad but show respect for everyone around you too. I don't see why that's so damn hard.
-
If he had tickets for that long maybe they could have escorted him to the top of his section. Stand all you want. If its all full you upgrade who ever was sitting there. Problem solved.

If you read the article, those "season tickets" really aren't his- they belong to someone else in the group of 12. FWIW, I'm not the "season ticket holder of record" for my tickets- my lifelong friend is. We could pay the Browns $50 and put two in my name- but then I'd be back at square one on seniority. And it does bring up an interesting point- pretty sure the guy just got kicked out- not PSL revoked. If that happened and I was the owner of the PSL that got canceled- it would be the last time that guy ever sat with me. You can take it to the bank the "ticket holder of record" is going to get a real nasty letter from Lew Merletti explaining in exact terms if this ever happens again, your PSLs are going to get revoked. For certain- I've seen people kicked out before in my section (usually at Steeler games) and trust me- you have to be a complete A-hole to get the boot.

As the browns culture revamps itself to one of winning and becomes relevant again we can expect to see the fanbase return to a more ravenous, excited pumped up fanbase and as such there will be more to cheer for and about so standing for longer periods of time will likely become more common, imho being loud and proud is part of being the 12th man on the field and there is times in a game that everyone should be on their feet and raising hell..
I am not for or against standing for as long as a fan wants but i am for courtesy and taking into consideration where my seats are located and if someone behind me tells me i am interrupting their view of the game by standing to much or the stadium security warns me as much i am going to sit down and cheer until those in front of me stand and i cant see then i will rise to watch the play unfold cheer or jeer appropriately and then sit back down..
Those like this guy and his buddies that stand at or near the front for most of the game and cause others behind them to have to stand just to see any or most of the game need to consider swapping psls to somewhere out of the way or be prepared to get booted frequently..
-
having to be told that you are inconveniencing someone is my point exactly. where's the common decency in this country anymore? you should know you are doing it. it's all about what's mine is mine and fxxk the other guy.
having to be told that you are being a douche probably means you're a douche.

I saw that in the article. It's partly why I pointed out the part about 25 year season ticket holder. The guy tries to make it out at first like he's some life long customer, but he's not. The person who owns those PSL is the person that's probably been a 25 year season ticket holder. I bet you are right that the holder of record gets a letter explaining it.
If the guy saying sheriffs have tracked him down before doesn't give away that this guy is far more likely the same type of person you described from Steelers games getting booted, his quote of "I hate the people who sit down at a game" does. Some one who would say they hate those people is not likely the type of person who will politely sit (and not stand back up 30 seconds later) when the people behind him ask him to.

Exactly, I'm all for standing up and cheering when the game or play gets exciting. However, I paid my money to watch the game, not the back of someones fright wig.
I think the guy is under the mistaken notion "standing" for the whole game somehow makes him more of a "fan". It is inconsiderate- the guys behind him may well be geriatric, or have health problems that make it impossible to stand the whole game. I have a good season ticket holder friend that's had a couple of heart surgeries- yeah he should have to stand the whole game because the guy in front of him thinks standing is way cool. And if you do want to stand, there's ways to do so without inconveniencing anyone. The last row of the upper deck would be a good place for example.

We all pay a hefty price for "seats" & the vast majority of us use them & rise as appropriate. REAL Fans respect not only the game, but their fellow Fans. I also applaud the Browns for taking a stance against boorish, inconsiderate behavior. Even at shows such as "The Wiggles" kids show in a theatre I have had to ask adults to please sit down so OUR Grandchildren could also watch & enjoy the show. Unfortunately, we now live in a selfish, "ME" society.
As for Stipe's account of the incident, that's ONE side....Where's the other? I still remember my Dad's reply to my Wife when she asked why he & Mom split. He told her there was his side, Mom's side, & somewhere in the middle was the truth. I'm not buyin' what Stipe is sellin'.

At the time of the move..I had technically been a season ticket holder for 19 years and I was only 26 years old. I got season tickets as a birthday present in the 2nd grade and they were always in my name until the team moved in 95, even when other family members had the tickets after we moved to California.

I sit in the non-dawg pound endzone. WHen they are near our endzone almost everybody stands. But when they are 80 yards away there is no reason to stand

I hate to sound like I am old but perhaps I am.
I know at college games we always stood. I can't tell you what the seats at DKR-Memorial Stadium in Austin feel like cause the only time any of us ever sat was if they were puking.
That said, this comes down to respect. I have a bad back and spend tons of time on my feet all week long. I don't mind standing at key points in the game and making noise but I certainly can't stsand for a whole game. If everyone in my section was standing...I would suck it up. If it's just two guys...that's asking a lot.
We've evolved into a tremendously inconsiderate and rude society. We impose on others without care, especially strangers.
My brother is a Jets season ticket holder and we went to the opener against the Cowboys. His section is generally pretty tame (he has good seats) but I'll be damned if the two "gangsta dudes" in front of us didn't stand the whole game despite numerous people asking them to sit down. If they focused on the game perhaps...JUST PERHAPS....I could cut them a break but they would check their cellphones and text and facebook etc.
They knew it was pissing people off and yet they did it anyway.
I was in Cleveland last year and had tremendous seats and it was very cordial. There was no issue with this.
It's all about being considerate.

100% the truth and I couldn't agree more. I don't know the back story or care enough to even check but as a 25 year season ticket holder he had to have been doing more than just standing.

What do you guys think about this? Anyone hear this story? It's on newsnet5, and 92.3 The Fan has been talking about it all day. The guy was a loyal season ticket holder for 25 years, and he gets thrown out, and I believe that his tickets were revoked! Are the Browns trying to lose more fans? Look I realize people do go overboard, and I don't advocate in a drunken stupor punching the nearest opposing fan, or throwing objects on the field, but come on man, this isn't a tennis match, or a Cleveland Orchestra Concert!

First off, if he is a respectful fan and recognized the people behind him also paid for season tickets he should consider their needs. Like being able to sit in the seat from time to time. I have personally, viewed a game where the guy in front stood on every play even before the snap and caused anyone behind him to stand. This rude inconsiderate behavior. I can understand in the heat of the play all 10 seconds of it some fans get excited and jump to their feet. In the three hour process of the game 11 minutes are action. That leaves 2 hours and 49 minutes of non action. I would assume that a considerate fan would stay seated most of this time and on many plays that are less than spectacular.
If everyone stayed seated most of the time all these seaon ticket holders would get their value a paid for seat used most of the time.
Respect those around you escpecially those behind you, or stay home and stand and watch the game on 'TV

I remember at the old Muni stadium they had kind of a "bull pen" where the cops locked up people from the Dog Pound who had gotten in fights, etc. (Almost always from a Steelers game). It was between the area of the regular stadium and the dog pound. It was basically just a cage, funny as hell.
