  • I'll take 1200 yards every season. I'm perfectly fine with that.

i mean i can't disagree with that...as long as his yds per carry stay up and provide a good combo back to go with hillis...that would work out

  • he has had 2500 yards from scrimmage in 25 games started. Receiving yards should be used when evaluating a back, they count to, they move the chains.

"Because Jones-Drew, Benson, and Mendenhall are NOT one hit wonders. "

neither is Michael Turner, Matt Forte, Ray Rice, Jamaal Charles, Fred Jackson (averaging 100 ypg this year with 800 yards from scrimmage so far, had 927 yards last year). Many of those guys had to split carries with other backs and had several seasons with 1,000 yards from scrimmage. For instance, Reuben Mayes, Dalton Hilliard and Craig Heyward were all on the same team for a good amount of time. Mayes made the pro bowl after his 1k season, he would have had another 1k season but it was a strike shortened season. You can't just look at all the 1,000 yard rushers and link them all together. You have to look at skillset. How many 240 pound guys can run like Hillis? He is very light on his feet which allows him to change direction when hitting the hole without having to make dramatic stop and go cuts, his feet are always moving which is why he is rarely hit for a loss (it doesn't matter this season because every play call is straight up the middle). What separates him from someone like Brandon Jacobs is his cutback ability, he lost a good deal of that for a while last year with the thigh injury. You don't see Jacobs excelling on stretch plays and toss plays, his big runs have come up the gut with huge holes. Hillis is not limited in the type of play they call for him. He excelled last year with a lead blocker and he excelled in Denver's zone blocking scheme in a single back set.

  • Any freakin time a player is successful - and other others are very limited...

that player gets all the game planning to shut him down.

The Browns must get a legit RT on the line, and some solid depth on the oline,

much of any consistent success on offense.

Like you and I proclaimed loudly, Hillis was a one year wonder, another Rueben Droughns, nobody listened and now here we are when the numbers are coming in a bunch of geniuses arise never respecting the greatness of those whom already got it long before the season started

it is too frickin funny Cal has never got it and still doesnt he blames Hillis failures on the RT....................................................................hiilarious.................dime a dozen ruined monster back

include preseason, fantasy and practice yards

  • 1600 yards. As a fan, wouldn't you want Hillis to prove that he isn't a flash in the pan? Wouldn't that be better for the team instead of bragging about how you are right after a few games with a crappy oline? its not just the RT, the entire line isn't getting any push. Why would you want a player to fail?

Droughns was a kr for 3 years, then rushed for 1200 yards in Denver, then 1200 here, with a grand total of 2 touchdowns! Yes that is exactly like Hillis.

Matt Forte had a down year his 2nd year as a starter, 3.6 ypc 4 tds and failing to hit 1k.

and why would you reply to your own post?

  • The offensive isn't the problem ... the coaching staff is. Hillis has been given almost no chance to produce. He has only been given 20+ carries in one game ... and has rewarded the coaching staff 94 yards rushing, and 2 TD's.

You guys can't expect production when the coaches aren't giving him the ball.

Hillis carrying the rock 20+ times a game does not just helps Peyton it helps Colt and the rest of the offense as well.

Droughns was actually a 2 year wonder. One 1200 yard year with Denver and one with the Browns. The difference is he hardly scored touchdowns. Hillis had 11 last year. Droughns had 2 for us in 2005 and 6 for Denver in 2004. They aren't the same player. If Hillis can stay healthy and the coaching staff actually uses him correctly, Hillis will be effective. He is also loads better at pass protection than any of our other RB's right now. We still have so many problems to fix but Hillis's talent is not one of our top concerns right now (WR, OLB, OL, QB depth all come before RB right now).

  • well can we get someone to block for him, maybe open some holes? marecic sucks compared to vickers and our oline is getting pushed back on every play.

the worse move the FO has made was letting vickers go. now they are contemplating letting hillis go?

    c'mon man!

  • Pay attention McFly. I am the real McCoy, King Ghoolie Lives. Note my number of posts, and rating. Then note King Ghoolie, who someone just created over the last couple days to be cute.

C.mon, sit up and pay attention. Class is in session.

It says you have 689 posts and are a rookie.

So, I guess what you are getting is the hazing that every rookie must endure.

(Mine says I have over 7000 posts and my number hangs in the rafters!...but we all know you have been around longer than dirt Ghoolie)

No, Rich is dead on. Droughns, like Hillis is a one hit woner.

Both had a good year when defenses prepared for the Browns as a team without a running game.

The second year, Droughns, like Hillis got shut down, andnow will probably be cut.

Easy to stifle, straight ahead, slow runner.

so all of those times he bounced it the outside using lateral agility, long patriots td, run against the Bengals to run the clock out, all of the toss plays that resulted in tds or the stretch play where Tommy Z threw him out of bounds after 48 yards were just magical illusions? He doesn't have elite top end speed but he isn't slow, he is faster than guys like Blount and Shonn Greene.

Are you saying defensive coordinators are so incompetent that not only can they not make an in game adjustment to a runningback, that they are unable to go through the previous week's film of the opponent and realize no passing game and just a tight end and Hillis? Yeah you really know how to use logic there. Droughns was placed on ir his first year with the Lions, was a kick returner/special teams gunner for 3 years ( a position that has a short shelf life, return men's ability diminish very quickly) then he was also a starting rb for the last year with the Broncos, rb is also a position with a short shelf life, average is 3.5 years. He ran for 1200 yards. Then he came here and ran for 1200 yards 2 tds. He still had decent production his 3rd year as a starting runningback. He was 29 years old when he was no longer a starting rb, around the age most backs start to decline. He still served as a good goal line back that season for the Giants. He didn't come into the league at 220, he was much smaller. Also, Droughns wasn't cut, he was traded for Tim Carter (one of those 4.3 receivers with "unlimited upside" but never lives up to it.

Seriously, you act like runningback is some hard position to figure out, its not like quarterback where you have to sit hours and hour watching game film figuring out. "Lets look at the tape, lets see theres the play where they pull Steinbach and Thomas with Vickers coming right behind him and then a 240 pound guy at full steam, I wonder how we stop that'. You couldn't, there was a period of time where teams knew what we were going to do and we did it anyway. Then Daboli started outsmarting himself thinking "they think were going to run it to the left or up the middle where we can't be stopped? lets run it to the right, out of shotgun, in a 4 receiver set, where none of the receivers are actual threats" Seriously, the NFL only has about 5 or 6 different running play that they use consistently, yes they are used out of multiple formations and little tweaks but still the same concepts. tight zone, outside zone (stretch) , counter, power, draw, some sort of toss play. Hillis is able to run all of these, he isnt limited to running power every play, and he is also a threat in the passing game (Droughns didn't catch close to 61 passes in a season). And yes he can run it right, usually when the lg pulls, Steinbach was great at this, but if the key block was supposed to be by the rt then it was usually a fail. The new guy isn't as good at pulling as Steinbach either. The only thing that Marecic does is draw an extra defender in the box, at least Vickers could level the extra guy in the box, should just do more single back sets.

  • Hillis has had strept throat one game, a tweaked hammy in Another, and a confused awful offensive gameplan against Cincy. He hasn't had much game time to produce this season. If he's 100 percent these first five games, we may have seen that even with a shitty o line hillis can still make plays and be a difference in this lackluster offensive attack.

I know you love this team and players (for some reason) but it's time to take the Brown and Orange colored glasses off. McCoy and Hillis have not been good at all this season. Whether it's from new offense, bad o line, or whatever, they have not been good. Ifs buts and candy nut sacks, they have sucked thus far.

Hillis is wanting too much money and hasn't shown that he should be paid what he wants. Walrus was saying talks have been slow and they're not there yet. This guy has been through 3 agents and we all know he wants more money. But he doesn't deserve it yet.

I used to think he was a down to earth guy who just loved being able to be paid to play football and praise god. But the more this story starts to develop and unfold, the less I believe he's so down to earth now.

  • I have been disappointed with hillis and his contract issues usf. I think the right thing to do is to wait til the end of this year and see how he performs healthy. It sucks that right when we have a light at the end of the tunnel last year, this year we notice the lights really are just on the front of a train and it's speeding toward us. Typical Cleveland "breakout" players, only to be traded the next year

  • You thinkHardesty is overrated or should he be used more?

  • Hardesty is still a "rookie" and even if he can't catch, he has decent size and has a good stride to his run. He needs to adapt to the speed of the game. We still can't make assumptions this early

  • Hardesty has been good when Hillis is tired. At least when I'm playing Madden.

  • If you don't have a legitimate passing attack, they'll stack the box and limit Hillis. That is all.

    FYI:

    1. Last 8 games Hillis has averaged a paltry 53 ypg rushing.

    2. After you add, multiply and subtract this equates to a 3.8 yards per run (113 total carries last 8 games as Brown)

    3. In 2010 Hillis fumbled the rock 8 times

    4. I can forgive his fumbleitis considering he did have 61 receptions for almost 500 yards last year

    5. Durabiility issues have followed his career. He has had hamstring problems before.

    6. Off the subject...Mickey Mantle would have been 80 years old today. Pay homage.

These pedestrian stats certainly don't equate to upper tier running back salary considerations. IMO, he needs to get healthy, keep his cake hole shut and just play effin ball. The Browns have zero

wiggle room for distractions at this point.

    reality is a bitch
