The ultimate test on our head coach

Coach Shurmur’s ability to lead will be tested in the remaining games we have left in the 2011 season where we will play both Baltimore and Pittsburgh twice. He no longer has the strike to blame for his failures since he has had this team since August he should be able to pull from the its strengths and create a solid game plan to win.

As all of us know many professional athletes will just mail it in near the end of a season on any losing football team. They will play to not get hurt by just going through the motions and pulling themselves out on plays so they can preserve themselves for the next season. In a business aspect it seems to be a smart move. But as a competitor it shows how selfish of a player you are and how unreliable you can be as a team mate.

The challenge for Shurmur will be to get his team prepared for each game and to keep players hungry for victory. This will be his test; not only in his ability of drawing lines on a chalkboard but his ability to motivate the players and to finish out as a leader and someone who is worthy of being our head coach.

If he fails, we need to replace him and find a coach who can get the job done.

Not gonna happen...he will be allowed 2 more years I think. At most next year they will either bring in a HC and make him OC coordinator or vice versa...

And honestly I think its about damn time that everyone stop calling for the coaches head...stability is the key. So what he isn't the best head coach on the market. Everyone has to start somewhere. Rome wasn't built in a day, and this franchise is sooo jacked up that it won't be a quick fix to set the ship right...gonna be a lot of growing pains.

I still believe..call me blind...stupid..whatever...I like the direction things are going. The only person in the FO that is in the same position as before is Heckert. But they all seem to be on the same page so i'm willing to allow them to shape this team as they see fit...at least give them ONE offseason to get their plans implemented.

I'm done with jackass coaching. If you can fire Mangini because he "wasn't on the same page" you can sure as hell fire Shurmur "because he sucks".

Really, Tomlin had a Super Bowl Defense fall in his lap with Big Ben and Running Backs, and Harbaugh has a Super Bowl Defense fall in his lap and a pro Bowl RB and Prop Bowl Tight End and 2 pro Bowl O-linemen...Both did not do a 180 on Offense and Defense changing both systems...Please come up with something better tham this reaason!!!

those coaches could have the right personnel to be successful. Shurmur has a young and improving team with a qb who nobody knows will flourish or not. only time will tell

My only comeback to you is..... Care to explain how AJ Green and Andy Dalton have miraculously turned the Bengals into a contender?

The other side of the argument is.... contrary to popular opinion- there's not that much difference between bottom feeders and excellence in the NFL and it boils down to coaching. Case in point, Harbaugh inherited the same 49er team that STUNK last year under Singletary, glory be, they're now world beaters.

I feel for you bro. I am not all that excited to drive the 7 miles to the bar to sit outside and watch.

We sit outside on the covered patio so we can get the sound to our game. At least it is going to be around 60 today.

My attitude is this. If we hire a OC for next year, isn't that the same as firing this years OC?? So that means we will be in the position of having a head coach who got fired for being a ineffective coordinator.

AJ Green is really good and Dalton is not afraid to throw it for him to catch it, and they have a really good defense and solid running game.

I know it comes to defense, the niners didnt stin last yr there Defense was great, but like our defense they were on the field forever last yr. Harbaugh great coach

The one thing that has been constant throughout this WHOLE scenario is the fact that we keep switching up coaches and front offices and players...Einsteins definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing expecting different results. Am I happy with the results of this years team??? ...of course not. Do I think Shurmer is the greatest coach that we have ever had...HELL NO. I will say this much in his defense. At least he has tried to make adjustments with with his playcalling throughout the year, whether it worked or not. Thats something that certainly hasn't been the case for at least the previous two regimes. Daboll always brought the same thing to EVERY game.

My point is this...why keep changing the personnel so drastically that the team will never have any kind of "identity" at all? Our identity this year was supposed to rely on Hillis to be the relief valve for McCoy but it's obvious what happened with that. Oh as for your claim that I am a "homer" for hillis,mccoy, and cribbs, who else should I be rooting for? Last time I checked I was a BROWNS fan and rooted for the players that are on the team. All this talk about we should have had this person or that person is just BS. We don't have them. The reality is what it is. You can wish for all manner of things in your pipe dreams but I am looking at what is staring me in the face. We have a subpar team that is trying to build from a foundation developed through the draft. Stability is the key but only if the right people are in place, and i see no signs of the right people being in place i just see more of the flawed design crap we have grown so use to under the current ownership..

The Ben-gals won the AFC North two years ago, the foundation of a winning team was already there. They made some stupid FA signings last year and killed their chemistry.

The fans aren't going to put up with another two seasons of this Bulls**t. And if you haven't noticed, the town has already given up on the Browns. I've seen better crowds back in the 70's for a freaking High School game than the # of actual bodies in the stands today. Talked to a group in our tailgate lot after the game who are dumping their Club Seats. If I didn't have 25 years of seniority on my season tickets, I'd seriously consider having better things to do with my money than writing Randy a check every May to pay to see garbage on display.
