Robert Griffin Iii Is Scary Good

The Browns Board

  • I'd take Griffin over McCoy.

At worst griffin is better simply due to arm strength. He can make all the throws with ease.

As for ceiling, Griffin's is very high. Colt is as good as he is going to get.

Whatever it is your smoking...I want some too....

  • RGIII is impressive. But under center with the Browns, he still will get smashed into the turf off the right side of the oline.

And he won't have open receivers usually, because Little will be double or triple covered.

For all of RGIII's excellent abilities... on a qb sneak in that bowl game? He didn't make it.

Because he didn't block, his oline got a bit stalemated. His rollouts to the right?

Forget it - the Browns can't lock up the right side long enough, or sometimes/often not at all.

If the Browns draft him, I'm fine with that. But I believe he'll learn behind McCoy and Wallace for a year.

That isn't any kind of dramatic impact player. No qb will be a star for the Browns without additional weapons on offense, and shoring up at RT. Joe Thomas says the growth of Pinkston is terrific, and Lauvao was a team captain.... nobody's perfect. But Pashos is a fine guy who really should play OG or backup RT.

I'm thinking RT in the draft - in the second round. Maybe even third... and Broyles was on the sideline last night, being interviewed, all smiles, still recuperating from his injury. Coples, DE? with the first pick?

and Broyles with the second? I'd go with that in a New York second. Or, maybe whatshisname, wr out of ND, if he has a great combine and the Browns are sure he won't be a character problem.

But Cam had bookend tackles with Carolina, and other weapons. He'd get his arse handed to him, too,

if he were with the Browns behind center.

It's time to finish building an NFL quality oline. Sign a solid RT in FA, I'm great with that. But Pashos just

can't keep up with the fast speed rushers anymore? at all.

  • RG3 is the most overrated QB to come out of college since the great jamarcus russel.

that being said, it's almost a lock that you guys WILL take him.

just remember you heard it here first when you're crying again about your horrible draft picks.

the fact you can even compare RGIII to that big fat piece of crap and then say that the browns will take him when we've been all over the place shows how little you know. I feel confident your basing your opinion off the fact he's a black mobile QB.

anyway, I've been watching more and more highlights of the guy and I keep getting more impressed. I think the thing that makes a QB more than a "system quarterback" is the ability to read coverage schemes and make the right throws along with being deadly accurate making all the throws. I think reading coverage is a legit knock that he's going to have to get better at. But as for the accuracy, it's ridiculous. Hell, there was a point that he had more TD's than incomplete passes.

i do compare him to russel in the fact that i think he will become one of the biggest draft busts in recent history.........and i say the browns will take him because the browns have a horrible history drafting players.

and in no way did i even mention skin color.

if i were gonna mention a QB that reminded me of RG3's athletic ability it would be tebow (white, fast, elusive, quick) not russel (black, not fast or elusive, just big and hard to take down).

Finishing up your schooling shows character. I am not 100% sold on the dude, but this is a positive.

  • we should not take him. I dont like guys who rise up the draft in the last 3 games of there career..

He's been rising up the draft boards since his first game this season when he single handedly destroyed TCU. Even before then with his production before this season he would have been considered a 2nd or 3rd round pick but before this season no one considered that he would even come out.

  • Well since it's my winter break and I don't have much to do, I decided to carefully watch that offensive onslaught of a game that was Baylor v Washington to specifically watch RGIII do his thing. I have to say without being a total expert that what I saw shows that this guy is going to be an all pro, offensive machine at the next level. His foot work is great, he showed several times the ability to take the snap under center (a big knock on him), his throws looked natural and strong as ever. He was making all the throws that are going to be required at the next. Do I even need to get into his elusiveness? That TD run he had was incredible. I don't like really comparing but his arm motion reminds me of Vick so much, he flicks the ball and its just a bomb.

Now, many are bringing up the idea that he could go before Luck. What do you guys think? I highly doubt this would happen and the way the draft is currently assuming he declares RGIII will fall right into the browns lap. I guarantee in this post that the browns will be playoff contenders with RGIII under center should they take him, he's that good. Picture a more accurate Cam Newton with the speed of Vick, man it's amazing just to think about. Anyway, what is yall's opinion here?

ah shit you just figured that out...................typical Browns fan

  • Well, after reading the little rant by Wallace today he definetly doesn't want to help the team win...So, if we get RG3 he better ask Favre for some help in the off season to learn this offense...it is a pain in the but to learn, it's not just run and gun it takes at least 3 years to master this thing...and Colt is only on his 2nd year...)...actually first year(heck, A.S. has been working on it for 4+ years in S.F....I'm still blown away by Wallace's comments.

I can see in a year or two Colt actually sitting down and helping out any kid trying to take his job...if i know I'm going to be replaced at work by someone I wouldn't sit in a corner and pout and not tell them my trade secrets...I was hired to do whatever my boss tells me to do...even if it's to teach the little prick kid in the corner every abstract mathematical equation that I've gathered in my head for the past 20 years to help the teams efficiency and then shown the door the next day.

I haven't wished anything bad on anyone in 38 years since my mom got fired by Modell but I hope the animal breaks his neck tomorrow.

RG3 reminds me more of Vick then Tebow. RG3 has ridiculous, Olympic speed. Even your biggest Tebow supporters will tell you he doesn't have that type of speed. Hell very few human beings, much less NFL players have the type of speed he has. Now I'm not positive RG3 will end up being a hall of famer but your not going to find a better guy from a talent and PR, marketing stand point to be the face of your franchise. If Learner is paying any attention to this franchise he ought to be in pushing for RG3 hard. Now I say that purely from a business stand point. I'm not convinced Learner is real worried about the football aspect of this whole NFL business.

  • He's nothing like Tebow, Tebow is a fullback trying to play QB. He is a little dim and can't throw very well.

RGIII is like a fast wideout playing QB, he is smart with a near perfect effortless throwing motion, and he has a gun that's quick & accurate. With the right team and good health he will be very very good. IMHO

  • His throwing is far from "near perfect".

If that were the case, he'd be the consensus #1.

He's more Troy Smith than anything else. If Troy Smith and Michael Vick had a baby, it would be RG3.

What worries me is that his plays are fed to him at the LOS by signal callers on the sideline. I don't know how well he reads the defense on his own, nor do I know how much freedom he has in audibling.

There's no doubt in my mind that's he's a smart kid with his head on right. He's a good "face of the franchise" draft pick. I just don't think he's as great as some make him out to be. He has his flaws. He relies on his feet a little too much, he's not going to outrun as many people in the NFL. He takes a lot of hits and has a smaller frame than you'd like to see for that, you have to wonder how his health will hold up. He's going to get hit a hell of a lot harder than he is being hit now.

Honestly, I think Cam Newton was the worst thing to happen to Cleveland. His success may make us screw up the upcoming draft, which will set us back another three years.

I'm not going to judge RG III on one game. But you're right on all accounts. Griffin does indeed have a cannon arm- but his mechanics are far from perfect. Happy feet too- and he weighs 30 pounds less than Fig Newton.

Um, there's the Heisman Curse to be dealt with too. Ask Hillis about Madden.

The Browns HAVE to nail the #4 pick, if they can't get a super stud there trade back again, and stockpile even more picks.

  • Every draft pick is a crap shoot. RG3, could be another Vince Young for all we know. I haven't watched enough of RG3 to really form an opinion, but what I have seen is a player that I don't think fits into our system. However, that could change, if RG3 is willing to learn and change. As someone mentioned, his frame is scary. He looks like he could snap in half, but sometimes those wirey guys can bend but never brake. You, you really don't know. But I would like to see 15-20 pounds of muscle be added to that frame.

His arm strength is nice, but we need a WR to compliment that strength. This is something we haven't had since Derek Anderson.

Here's an idea. Draft RG3, and grab his favorite WR from Baylor too...

Good analysis, and part of me does feel that way especially about Cam Newton boosting his status. But I think you and other people are missing a few things here. One, he has near 4 months to put on some muscle and fine tune his mechanics. I agree, I wouldn't call his throwing perfect, but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. He has a quick release which is the most important thing in the NFL. I disagree with you about him being able to outrun people too. Even at the elite level of the game fast is fast. This guy literally has close to Olympic speed. I also disagree about how some people say he doesn't fit into our system. Most of baylors passing game is between 8-10 routes, but the highlights only show the bombs. RGIII definitely has the ability to understand the offense and could adjust to it.

I do however completely agree on the reading defenses part. It's hard to say for certain, but it does seem like he's spoon fed the plays and does little to adjust them at. That will definitely come out in full light by the draft though. I just feel like this guy is a special player who is going to be a winner in the NFL along with the face of the franchise, which is something the browns haven't had for a very long time.

  • i wouldn't draft anyone from overated baylor when they barely beat an unrated washington.

fxxk drafting QB this year. draft all players from SEC's alabama or lsu's defensive squad and i'd be a happy MFer. oh but throw in a OL as our second pick just to piss rich off.

yeah rg111 is great and a good kid, but let him be someone else's project. we have way too many holes to fill w/o even talking about QB.

  • First Off he has one of the quickest releases of the throwing the football i have seen, he does what are QBs lack to do which is throw a five yard slant hard and in the numbers and on time that is a big part of are offense...Which in turns opens up the long balls which he has great accuarcy on.

If the Colts say they are happy with the #2 pick because RG3 would be there after Luck and they dont have Luck that much higher rated it shows you how much upside he has...

Believe this before the draft after the Combine Cleveland may even have to move up to grab him at #4 i dont think he will be there, i think Washington or Miami or someone else will trade ahead of us and draft him..

Also if we draft him i still start Colt Next year and let RG3 learn the system and give him a little time i wouldnt start him right away over Colt..
