  • I would love if we traded down from 4 into the 15-20 range, got Wright or Floyd and then DE/LB/CB with the Atlanta pick. And pick up an extra 2nd rounder this year and a first next year along with a couple mid round picks. That would be my dream scenario.

A couple flaws with that. One, if we are indeed able to trade down, that would mean that RG3 is available at 4 seeing as how he's going to be the only kid not named Luck that will garner a need to trade up for that early in the draft. So with RG3 available this would mean that we are passing up a franchise QB. That would be more like a nightmare to me, not a dream.

Next issue is that the teams looking to move up to take a QB wouldn't have to pay as much as you're thinking. Lets take the Skins for instance, for them to move up it's believed the cost would be a 2nd rounder this year and perhaps a 3rd round pick next year, but that's not even a foregone conclusion. It would more than likely be us swapping 1st round picks and them giving us their 2nd. Now we become that team again who misses on the stud game changer and pick up some more bodies who fill the roster. Again, that's my idea of a nightmare, the nightmare I've been living as a Browns fan since '86.

To me the nightmare would be RG3 being there and we take him, he'll never be elite in my eyes.

What is your thinking on the value of trading up. Why would it change so dramatically from last year?

Last year the Falcons traded from the late 20's to the 6th pick. That's a lot further up, therefore demanding a much higher cost. Most of the teams willing to trade up to get RG3 are around the 9th or 10th pick.

And I never understood the "in my eyes" or "from what I can see" point of view. Where exactly are you getting this viewpoint from? I'm not attacking, just asking. How many full games have you watched him play? How many game films have you watched on him? He's good enough for a group of 32 men who are paid a large amount of money and dedicate a lot of time to evaluating college talent but he's not good enough for you? I don't get it.

I think trading up from the 15-20 range will still net about the same. You might lose the 4th round picks or turn the 2nd into a 3rd. Really its just what there willing to pay to get the guy they want. It would definitely be more than a 2nd rounder though.

How else would I say it? Its from my eyes and my point of view, I don't listen to Kiper or McShay's opinion, its my opinion from what I've seen.

What 32 men are you referring too? I didn't think he was drafted yet.

I'm not gonna debate him on here, I already did in a couple other threads. If you wanna hear why I feel the way I do, its there for the reading

The further back a team is and would want to trade up to our 4th spot, the more it would cost them. I wasn't viewing any of those teams as the possible teams willing to trade up. As for what 32 men, the GM's. I know he hasn't been drafted yet but he's going to go high, as high as #2 possibly with a trade up by a team. And these draft experts talk with people within organizations. That's where they get a lot of their info. They aren't the ones watching game film on all these players.

You are assuming RG3 will be a stud. No player is a sure thing in the NFL. It seems like the people that think we have to draft RG3 are the same guys that really loved Brady Quinn. And Tim Couch? And how well did that turn out?

Next issue is that the teams looking to move up to take a QB wouldn't have to pay as much as you're thinking. You are again assuming that the Redskins are the only other team interested in RG3. The Dolphins and Seahawks are 2 other teams that could be interested in a QB. Plus picking up extra 1st and 2nd rounders isn't just "picking up some more bodies who fill the roster." It is filling your roster with talent. The more high draft picks you have, the more holes you can fill with quality talent. Too many Browns fans think that one player can come in and save the Browns. Sorry, but that's just a dream.

  • Clausen was a top 10 pick too...Happens every year, talking heads get engulfed in the hype and hysteria of THE MAN in college and fail to look at why he was successful and how that translate to the Pros.

I think the NFL will get it right....in my eyes 🙂

No, Clausen was a 2nd round pick, not a top 10. Ignoring that fact, there are flops, but you get the best chance at getting the best players are picking the highly rated players at the top of the draft. Bottom line. He's not a sure thing, nobody is a sure thing, but you have to play the odds.

  • Bringbackbrownie

No, I'm not assuming the Redskins are the only team interested, that is the reason why I said "for instance". I was giving an example of a team interested in a QB for this scenario.

And I'm not assuming RG3 will be a stud. I'm saying that this is the best chance for the Browns to get a true game changer. I will never get the thought that since there's a chance that a guy could be a bust you shouldn't draft him. How about we trade all our picks in the top 3 rounds for all a teams 5th round picks for the next 20 years. Then we don't have to worry about if he's a bust because he's expected to be a bust?

Browns fans need to get over their fear of winning. I became a Browns fan when we were a winner in the mid '80s. I want that back. If you guys don't then that's on you.

You missed the point, they talked him up that he was a sure top ten pick just like there doing RG3. And like you pointed out he ended up going in the 2nd round. That was my point, it happens every year.

When did I say that we would trade back to take another teams late round picks? You trade back to pick up extra EARLY round picks. If you add in a 4th or 5th here and there, great. But the point is to stock up on early round picks. The odds of drafting the right guys increases a lot when you have lots of early picks. You fail on a top 5 pick and it sets you back years..

We can disagree all we want but I just hope Heckert makes the right decisions..

No,I didn't miss any point. You claim that people are hyped and then suck. I was pointing out that your example wasn't true. There's nothing you can about the possible suckiness of a draftee. You draft a player you have the greatest confidence in and hope for the best. But everybody cries about the offense sucking so bad and now there's a guy who can be a huge part of changing that and a bunch of people don't want him. I don't get it. People must love a crappy team.

Why is every so impressed by RGIII. He's going to be the biggest bust since Ryan Leaf so get over it. Take Kendall Wright with the second first-round pick and don't look back.

No you did miss my point, it was obvious in your response....

What wasn't true about my example? The same people you are listening to now that are calling RG3 a top 5 pick also called Clausen a top 10 pick, he wasn't and he sucks. What aren't you following.

There's many people we could draft that could be a hugh part of improving our offense. Is RG3 gonna make Little catch the ball? Or MoMass get seperation? Or Pashos move his feet? Or Hillis stay healthy? We can use that pick and improve one of those area's and have a much higher percentage of them being successful. RG3 has alot of question marks, and history has shown players with his skill set and system experience have an extremely hard time adjusting to the NFL game. Are we just gonna ignore that because he's flashy. I dont think we need to take that risk, there's to many other area's in need of improvement. Get Colt some weapons and sure up the line, then if he's still unsuccessful we can draft a QB knowing he has a fair shot at winning.

  • A lot of people are of the opinion that we should not take a QB with our first round pick because there is a good chance of him being a bust. And for Examples they spout out the names of Tim Couch and Brady Quinn. They say we need to take a WR with our top pick.

If we use the same analogy, then we took Braylon Edwards #3 and he didnt do us much good. So by the same analogy, we should not be picking WR's with the top pick. What do u say to that ?

Im not saying don't take him because he COULD be a bust, Im saying it because weighing all the factors makes him LIKELY to be a bust.

Blackmon Could be a bust, but weighing all the factors he's NOT LIKELY to be a bust.

These a difference, buts its based on my opinion. If fair for you to disagree.

  • Ill take an actual bet with anyone that dosent believe Griffin will go top 5, we can set up a paypal or whatever you like...

I feel sorry for jparsh he is spot on and because people dont like the prospect dosent mean he wont be a high draft pick, you can ask just about any draft expert and they will tell you the same thing...If you dont believe me then wait till the draft and then we can see for sure...Hell we have John Clayton saying the Redskins are most likely going to move up to the 2nd pick but we rather take some internet forum peoples opinons over his incredible im pretty sure his sources are better than ares...

Im not pro or anti RG3. I have not watched enough college games to make an informed decision. All I saw were bowl games.

  • I had a dream about Brady Quinn last night. He was actually awesome, it just took him 8 years to figure it out.

I hope that's not the case.

Back on subject, Alshon has a much higher ceiling. He played in a much harder conference against much tougher defenses, and he would have likely been a top 5 pick if it weren't for the shit QB situation at S.Car this season.

He's 6 inches taller than Kendall Wright, 40 lbs heavier and is only a tenth of a second slower. And he's fat. Once he sheds his fat working with NFL strength and conditioning coaches, he'll likely go from 4.5 to 4.4 speed.

Alshon Jeffery is the closest thing to Calvin Johnson since...well, Calvin Johnson. He's a tremendous YAC receiver, and he's the biggest redzone threat in the draft this year. For a team lacking any redzone threats, I think Jeffery would be a fantastic acquisition.

  • 20 dollars, put it in your sig so we dont forget. I already have paypal but I dont intend on using it 😛

Since all the odds appear stacked against me though, you gotta take some risk to. If he does go top 5, I pay you. But it doesn't mean I'm wrong. So he's got 4 years to win a playoff game or you owe me. Fair enough??
