Luck, Griffen, Blackmon Gone

The Browns Board

  • We'd better get AT LEAST their first and a second to trade out of pick#4 - the person hopping up there will be grabbing an immediate starter at LT for the next decade.

If the Browns go to 6/7 and take Coples, that should still be a winning draft. Then take Wright at 22 and Minnifield at the top of 2.

  • I used to think Richardson would be a good pick at 4. But after the National Championship I have some doubts. We need a back with the ability to break runs with not very much space. Something Hillis was able to do. Richardson has speed, but vs. LSU he really was a non factor until scrub time. He was only averaging about 1yd a carry and sadly with the way the browns have been blocking, that it what we'll be seeing every week. I have a sick feeling they will trade down if the top 3 are taken, which I think they will be.

  • OK, I personally believe we have to take an offensive playmaker here at No4. What do you do if our three most likely picks (if available) are all gone? And I am saying with both picks in round 1, and potentially round 2. NO TRADES

I think what we should do is grab Trent Richardson (assuming he declares) at 4. At 22 we grab Alshon Jeffry/Kendall Wright/Michael Floyd - whoever we are saying is the best and whoever is available at this point.

This will at least give Colt some weapons to work with, albeit they are all young.

At this point in round 2, you have to decide, is Colt your man, or assuming Ryan Tannehill is there, do you take him? If Colts the man - Grab the best Tackle available.

IMHO, This takes care of three major holes and the QB position hole could potentially work itself out if Colt just needs some weapons. If Colt ends up stinking it up, you grab a QB next year and already have playmakers for the rookie and what should be a very good OL.

Round 3 on I really dont care where we go.

Other positions we need to address are

DL - Someone opposite of Sheard

LB - We have basically 2, 1 servicable and one good one

CB - Someone opposite of Haden

S - Someone opposite of Ward

OG - LG and/or RG - depends on what we think of Lauvao and Pinkston or if we keep Steinbach

WR - a burner, unless we take Wright, in that case a big WR.

QB - They said they wanted someone to compete with Colt, and a mid-late round pick could push him.

If Blackmon is there at 4 he is hands down the best pick. If not Richardson (if he declares) is the next best option. I also agree at 22 that you have to take the best available receiver. Next, if the Browns are going to draft a quarterback this year then I think Tannehill at the top of the 2nd round isn't a bad idea. I'm not an RGIII whatsoever but I do like the idea of a big, prototypical quarterback to push Colt immediately and replace him need be. I think linebacker is our next biggest need in the 2nd round if you don't make a move on Tannehill.

I also had my doubts for most of the Championship Game. I think he was getting stacked on the run, hence his sub-par game and McCarron's impressive one. I have also always had doubts about his "4.4" speed, but he showed incredible speed/acceleration when he busted that touchdown run to the outside.

  • i'd love to see us trade down gather another pick (2 if possible) then select the best LB and DE available with our first two picks. then get WR CB and OL.

Do remember though LSU had one of the best defenses in the nation this year and the first time they played I think Richardson had something like 150 yards rushing.

  • AND alabama switched up their offense from the first matcup. in the BCS chumpionship game they were using richardson more as a decoy. when he did run though he got stuffed.

RBs IMO don't deserve first round consideration unless they're a guarateed 10 year back. too many other important holes to fill.

i forget who said it (i think it was jimmy johnson) that you could turn a corner anywhere in the states and find a running back. it's the OL that makes the RB and for that matter makes the QB.

  • An O-Line merely gives the QB decent time to throw. It is still upto the QB to make the perfect throw and the WR's to get separation.

yeah i know. i'm just saying without one there is no running game or no passing game.

I do know LSU defense is one of the best. But in the NFL he'd be facing similar defenses all season long. Not to mention the Steelers and Ravens 2x. Even if he ran for 150 the first game he was unable to find the endzone, something the Browns can't seem to do either. With a bad o-line, power backs will succeed and a speed back like Richardson will get stuffed at the line.

Richardson has some power too. Have you seen the guy he is built and runs players over as well.

  • Let me add another twist

Luck,Griffen, and Blackmon are gone...And we do trade down.

Would you be willing to face Claiborne or Kalil, twice a year , in exchange for Cincinnati's 2 firsts and their third plus their second next year?

That gives us four picks in the top 36...We could fill alot of holes....But ...trade with a division rival? Would You?

No way would they give up that much. Even if we could get their 2 firsts this year, and even just say their second next or their third this year (either one) I would do it. Sure you're essentially handing them Kalil or Claiborne, but I feel it is more important to improve our own team than it is to worry about a division rival.

I would definitely do the trade you offered, I would even take a little less for reasons above.

No. And the Bengals won't trade up, they've made about zero draft day trades, though both their firsts for the Browns first is about fair value.

And I misunderstood. If Luck, RG III, and Blackmon go 1-2-3, you've put the Browns in an untenable situation with Kalil on the board, and no opportunity to trade out of the pick. Ain't happening folks- you don't draft a stud LT to make him your RT. In that scenario the Browns would take about any viable trade down offer, or go defense with the pick- and not Clayborne either.

Looking at the draft value chart, interesting stuff. The Rams are unlikely to draft RG III. For the qb needy Redskins to make the jump, it's going to cost them the first this year, next year, and a second to move up to #2 to get him. For the Browns to make that move, it's both first rounders this year, plus one of our fourth rounders.

  • ^if that'd happen, i'd take the kalil. then hold the first team for a kings ransom when injuries start piling up next year.
