  • Probably been mentioned already but could be waitning on playoff teams left to interview

  • Not a big fan of Bradly but if he does become the OC I would't pout(and i'm a big pouter if i don't get my way)

I really would like us to bring in a college cordinator with a bit of NFL experience so as not to get star struck the first year...so my choice right no would be.

Mike Bajakian of the Bear Cats

throw some names out there...Holmgren needs to find some new guys to teach...

I'm looking for us to also pick up Tim Beckman in about 2 years when Jauron leaves

Undoubtably there'd be a few position coaches on the Playoff teams that would be of interest for our OC.

OC is not a position I think I'd to fill with a guy who needs teaching.

It's Walsh's tree... 😉 But if you're going to go WCst, that's as good of a branch as there is...

Kubiak is turning out to have been a great HC choice by Houston.

  • Gibbs was assistant hc/ol coach for Denver under Shanahan from 95-03.

Kubiak was OC for Denver from 95-05 and learned the system from Gibbs who is pretty much the present day guru of zone blocking.

Since they coached under Shanahan I guess technically you could say they are part of the Walsh tree but other than Shanahan that's their only tie. Zone blocking goes all the way back to Lombardi.

Those Denver teams would plug in some no name guy and at the end of the year he'd have 1500 yards.

You see it with Kubiak in Houston with their powerful running game.

Anyhow, with the uncertainty of the offensive play calling not knowing if Shurmur will call the plays or not this next season something like this could really mesh well.

Keep Shurmur running the WC passing game calling pass plays and bring in a hungry understudy of kubiak/shanahan to implement the zone blocking scheme and focus on the running game.

The name of Mike Sherman has been thrown around by me several times. Former OC of the Packers when Holmgren was there and HC of the Packers after he left. He had a solid record. He is part of the Walsh/Holmgren tree. Went to Texas A&M. Was relieved of his duties just this past fall. Looking for a job. Is only in his mid-50s. Seems like a natural fit....though maybe Shurmur might squalk that Holmgren would bring in someone who would be an obvious replacement for him if he should fail as miserably in the future as he did this past year.

  • Prerequisites for the job includes Bob Lamonte as your agent.

If shurmur wont give the playcalling duty to the new OC then it will be impossible to get anyone other than a newb whipping boy anyways..

And unfortunately i suspect what we may ultimately end up with will match shurmur in lifelessness and will come fresh off the stall floor of the lamonte stable..

  • KNR (and I know many of you don't put any weight in what they say) said that Shurmur still plans on making the calls. This almost seems pointless. So we bring a guy in to establish an offensive scheme, plays, flow, gameplan. Yet Shurmur is going to be calling those plays. That's like LEGO, designing a new playset. Lego gives me the playset with the finished product on the box, yet no detailed instructions on how to put it together using the pieces. So we have a OC, that designs all the plays, assigns player roles, and than on game day gives this to Shurmur to put together.

Someone school on why this can work out. Is this how the Saints do it... I know there HC calls the plays. Someone edumacate me please.

  • I would love to see them bring in someone from the Shanahan / Kubiak / Gibbs tree.

Hell, bring in Alex Gibbs. Our O-Line is ideal for the zone blocking scheme they're not big overpowering blockers, but they're smart with good technique and can move.

Joe Gibbs was not a WCO coach.

Yes Shurmur said that he will still call the plays next season.

  • I'll take Charlie Weiss.

Or i'll take John Gruden and fire Pat today.

  • The favorite right now is to promote from within:

    #1: Mark Whipple

    #2: Gil Haskell

I wouldn't mind either of them.

Nickers I'm not talking about Joe Gibbs. I am talking about Alex Gibbs, no relation.

I would think that naming Alex Gibbs by full name in my post that you quoted would maybe tip you off to that.

Alex Gibbs was offensive line coach/assistant head coach under Shanahan who ran a run first version of the west coast offense. Pretty much the same thing they're doing in Houston these days.

Jon Gruden? Man give me a break. Gil Haskel is pushing 70 and has not coached in 4 years.

I'd love to see them take a look at John Benton or Frank Pollack from the Houston staff.

"I want to get the best guy I can. If he's outstanding at calling plays, hey, I want to win games." - Pat Shurmur

if your gonna hire Haskell then you might as well get Rutigliano out of retirement LOL

    I agree.

I posted a thread already but I want Hue Jackson, but only if Shurmur relegated his play calling duties to him. I'm also fine with Mike Sherman.

  • i want Chudzinsky. Screw WCO.

  • Whoever the OC is... I want Bernie Kosar to be his assistant.🙂

  • Why not let Bernie come in as a quarterbacks coach or something to start? At least he loves our team and that's more than you can say for the rest of these dingleberries.

  • I would hire the OC from LSU. With that marvelous showing against Alabama

in the National Championship Game he wouldn't miss a beat taking over as

    OC for the Browns.

  • How does the role of the OC change when he is not calling the plays. What does he do, just draw up the plays? Not sure I like the idea. How is Shurmur calling the plays (especially after this year) going to help us).

  • shottenheimer hired as OC of rams. think he's decent. lost his jub cuz dirty sanchez regressed. how come everyone blames the OC when the players don't make plays?
