  • I have always thought that the City of Cleveland should build like a 300 foot statue of Superman there at Voinivich Park overlooking/"protecting" the City.

I guess you just need someone to come up with the funding.

Of course the other problem is that it could disrupt the flight pattern there at Burke Lakefront Airport.

It would be nice if they could put it at that one spot near mall C where that big green fountain statue is...

Maybe they could have gotten the makers of The Avengers to finance that project....except, correct me if I am wrong...isn't the Avengers the product of Marvel Comics, and Superman the creation of Rival DC Comics?

( I was never that big of a comic book fan to pay attention to all that. I just watched the TV shows and movies)

Yes.I believe that is correct. with Stan Lee, being the major contributor and I believe the founder of Marvel Comics. Anyone is more than welcome to clarify.

Avengers is marvel. As is spider man, x men etc.

Batman, superman, green lantern, wonder woman etc are DC

Although there have been many crossover series and such throughout the years, you'd probably be hard pressed to get marvel to fund a 300 foot superman statue.

Nevertheless, you do think it is a good idea, nay?

  • I've heard worse, but 300 feet is a little drastic, and unless Cleveland decides to to something, anything with all the lakefront property to bring some people here, I can't imagine it could be paid for at all

  • Seriously a Superman Statue?

Sure, just like the Colossus of Rhodes, or the Statue of Liberty. Who better to put a statue up for? After all, Superman fights for Truth, Justice and the American Way.

    Would you prefer Dennis Kucinich?

  • Like this, only about 20 times as tall:

    Superman-statue.jpg

Of course, you could put a statue of me, with a similar stance:

  • Article on 300 foot Statue of Christopher Columbus that apparently cannot find a home. I wonder why Columbus, Ohio rejected it?

    http://jacksonville.com/news/national/2011-09-26/story/300-foot-statue-columbus-continues-its-20-year-shuffle

And check this out: the Statue of Liberty isn't even in the Top 30 when it comes to the world's tallest statues. Most of the taller ones are of Buddha or other Buddhist figures:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_statues_by_height

  • This is the tallest statue in the world today, some 462 feet tall (over twice the height of the Statue of Liberty):

    3275322.jpg

However, if and when Crazy Horse is ever done, it will be the world's tallest statue at about 550 feet tall:

    crazyhorse_031209.jpg

  • Of course, the Burj Khalifa is by far the world's tallest building at over 2500 feet tall:

    Burj-Khalifa.jpg

  • The New World Trade Center, under construction is already the tallest structure in NYC, and will pass any other US building soon:

  • building_height_comparison.jpg
  • Yes but all paling next to burj khalifa which is really an amazing structure

The bullshit thing about these is that they count the spire as a part of a building (but they don't count an antenna tower that is built on a roof of a building)

So, the New World Trade Center is going to be 1776 feet tall....only because they count to the tip of the spire, when in reality as you can see here, it highest occupiable floor will not be as high as that of the Sears Building (nka Willis Tower) in Chicago.
