I'm Happy I Don't Go To School In Texas

  • When I went to school (a long time ago) in High School they had what they called OWE which stands for Occupational Working Experience. It was for the kids who didn't do good in Math, Science, English, etc., and most of whom had a bad family life or were just plain rebellious. The kids came to school, went to homeroom, maybe did one or two classes in Social Studies or History, then went to work at a job. The got max credits for working, and could then graduate from High School. A lot of those kids turned out to be hard working and have had good lives from the few I still keep in contact with.

I took advantage of that as well. It got me through..... I just want better for my kids, it seems life is cyclical.

Hooker, home schools are put down because they take away from the hierarchy of union education.

My opinion is that they would be hard to regulate, when and if regulation is necessary.

I might hear that by the time it was obvious the kids werent reaching the required levels of education at home it may be too late.

But I do think that home schooling can be and often is a successful method.

On the other hand I think social interaction in public school can be valuable as well.

Of course in neither situation would I want johnny to get an a because he can wipe his butt.

    I agree totally

  • I realize that wasn't the most unbiased link, it was just the first one I found. It linked to the first hand resource and quoted it so it was good enough in my opinion.

I can tell you what I don't like about it later

    Exactly.

I would like to add, that the leftist agenda toward anti-Christianity, anti-family values from parent to child, pro gay/special anti-status quo agenda, etc etc...

is why they insist that they have a complete hostage audience. They hate home schooling because you can bet that most all the time, the leftist agenda

isn't being taught to kids there. Leftsts hate not being able to control the message.

BTW, When I have brought up "critical thinking" in the past, who was it that denied it existed? Some identical offshoot of Heck's .. with a different screen name?

Critical thinking isn't a bad thing. But leftists will use it to try to influence kids against the beliefs taught to them by their parents. That's a disgrace.

Critical thinking itself, is more like indepth evaluation of stances. For instance, if you figure that sugar maple trees are good because you like maple syrup...

and then you park under one in the spring, and you get droplets of sap all over your new car, you probly need to take both aspects of the issue into consideration

when deciding where to park your car. That's as simple as I can explain it.....

  • Because one generation should never look critically on and expand upon the views of the past generation....

    That would be crazy

  • Are you really that dense? Nobody is saying that.

I am talking about leftists in schools teaching kids to only

question what the leftists are against.

IE, you will NOT find lefist teachers in the publc schools

calling for kids to question Obamao.

But they sure as hell will have them question Romney.

And every other subject they don't like.

That's propaganda being called "critical thinking".

I know, you should research that. A lot.

  • I'm sure they've shown you a clip or two on Fox that may support you statement, but I don't really see any evidence of that or ever did in school on a large scale.

If conservative values are god did it, then yeah, they are questioning conservative values.

When I read their education proposal I don't really see any of what you just said. I see a lot of bad ideas and attempts to have children not think for themselves.

Like banning the teaching of creationism even as a theory?

A scientific theory is more than just "I think this might have happened" It requires research, studies, experiments, data, peer review, etc.

The heart of creationism is "god did it". That by itself umis not very scientific and can't be tested. Then throw is separation of church and state.

It's not worth the time to have a lecture where some creationist picks through the parts of evolution that we aren't 100% sure about yet and then ignores the overwhelming evidence towards it.

Plus you learn about religion in world history. If you think one origin story sounds particularly good then read up more about it. But at its heart it isn't scientific and shouldn't be taught in a science class.

  • Maybe Texas will be the first state to bring back corporal punishment in the schools.

If so i will give them a big pat on the back and hi five!
