Some people are showing themselves to be incredibly stupid.
He's not going to commit a great deal of money like that, just to run this franchise into the ground.
That's just naive. Yes, he's a Steelers fan, so what? You make an investment of this size to make a profit and to accomplish things. He'll be a fan of his organization.
That's not to say he'll be successful, but to pretend he's some kind of evil Steeler subversive agent; sent to make us stay crappy, like some sort of evil soviet spy is Retarded.
This guy is not buying the franchise.

Wow! what a bunch of asses you guys are! so because the guy was born a Jew this is a problem? How can you guys say you are fans but never pull a punch on saying my team the Cleveland Browns just suck? I think with this draft we have made significant upgrades across the board. But all you ass hats can see is the negative. Why don't you find another team to burn on and let the real fans have hope and pleasure in the Browns. Wow! you already are thinking were still going to stink even after this awesome draft we just had. How can you call your self fans but find every excuse to talk shit about the Browns! I thought a fan was a fan no mater win or lose but you ass hats are so fucking worried about winning you forgot what love for you team and colors mean! Find another team to crap on!

hey lady, it's called opinions.
don't get me wrong, i love heckert , but awesome draft? after TR weeden, the RT and maybe hughes....who did we get?? WITH 12 FREAKING PICKS? couldn't make any moves to move up and grab one of ten - 15 top notch LBs?
i think people flaming on the teams are the real fans. we see where the improvement is needed and talk about it. we see where the fat is at and want to trim it off. this is done everyday in the business world. and what do you think the NFL is?
you and choco should take your cats to cancun and sip on some pina coladas, hold hands and watch the sun go down as you sing church hymns.
and pray that the browns make a move for tebow. HA!!

Im 1000% browns fan but if i became the owner of the bengals i am going to see to it that my bengals kick my beloved browns asses 2 sundays a year...
I dunno anything about this guy but he cant possibly be any less of an owner or any less invisible than randy has been..

I go to at least 3 training camps a year and have seen Randy at everyone and a few time at some of the games and multiple times in the box on T.V. I can guarantee that Haslam will be much less visible. He is still running a company with 500+ location...goes to multiple U.T. and Smokies games a year and has a huge family here in TN and is going to be in a brutal push to get Mitt elected. On top of that he is a big supporter of the local area and is constantly in the public eye down here...he is not shy. So, unless he has a twin and is going to retire and call it quits I would say he will be an absentee owner instead of a shy quiet owner that has loved the browns from the beginning. Also as everyone mentioned he is a die-hard Steelers fan however, he also is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. So, this has nothing to do with Cleveland and all to do about money. He is not Dan Gilbert who would have a crayon fight with anyone to defend Cleveland.

Any one is better than randy Lerner.. And at least this means an end to the free ride for holmgren and heckert..
Th NFL doesnt take 5 years to turn a club into a 6 win team..
Maybe this guy will have a sense of urgency.. Im pulling to see us win some games this year...

Based on what I read JPilot has no connections with Marathon other than personal past history, which can be a good thing. Considering our owner is football idiot any change could be good. Considering the franchise has made every wrong move possible most of it's term, how can a new ownership do worse??????

I have been back and forth on my opinion of Lerner over the years. I think his heart is in the right place, he has the dough, he wants to succeed and all that, but there is just something missing with his passion. The soccer queer thing is definitely an issue and annoying as hell, especially given that it is a team across the Pond.
However, we could do much worse. Lerner's failings were the people he has hired or promoted, not anything else. He got snake oiled by Butch Davis and stayed too loyal too long, entrusting Davis with too much power. He attempted repeatedly to follow Bob Kraft's model and even was tutored by him - which is commendable. Savage was a glorified scout who he again entrusted too much power in, and I think he assumed that since Phillip was a self described "good Christian" and Baltimore guy, he would easily lead us to the promised land here.
He made a good move in snagging Mangini the second he became available, but proved his inexperience by basically letting EM hand pick his own GM. That is backasswards, but he did it to secure Mangini. With the Hitler type power that EM had, he had to take on way too much for a guy who was here to simply gut this thing and coach. Your new coach shouldn't be making all the calls related to the franchise, including the draft with little to no time to prep. Then Randy panicked and went and got Holmgren to come in, a guy who had a near opposite philosophy from EM on all things schematic and overall football related.
The ironic thing is, Walrus finally got Randy to buy in on the patience thing and to do this the right way, through the draft. The second the team looks like it may be ready to start turning the corner, Randy wants to finally sell rather than see a plan actually succeed.
It tells me that he has been wanting to sell this thing for awhile, but couldn't because his dad put the ten year moratorium on selling. I do agree a little with Gillooly on what he has always said about Randy, but then again we could have done much worse with an owner. Randy didn't create all the bad luck that has followed this team around like the plague, either.
Something else about Randy, and that is he never dicked around with the tradition of the team or did that gay naming of the Stadium thing that so many of these types do. Don't expect all that to stay 100% the same with new ownership, although I am sure Randy probably has laid down certain stipulations contingent on the team not changing things too drastically.
Let's just hope this new guy is sensible and doesn't try to make a huge stamp on things. One would like to think that the reason he really wants to buy the team (besides they are available and have great tradition and fans) is that they are in good order with leadership right now.

I've always said Lerner is much more suited to be the Indians owner, as opposed to being in the NFL or even NBA. The MLB is the only league where you can have a financial advantage over other teams, and not have to worry about salary caps. It would never happen, but I would much rather have him than the Dolans. At least Lerner wants to win, and doesn't lie to fans.

fuck him and everyone that looks like him.

man you guys are assholes. i never said they would suck. BUT I"LL GUARANTEE neither of you had even heard of any of those guys until the browns pulled the trigger on them.
not every great player comes from the SEC douchebag. it's just the best conference in college football.
get it straight.

to be fair I had heard about both linebackers Johnson and Acho. Others were no namers to me.

No, I am done with the browns. Just come here our of habit.
then find another habit....like meth or a domestic violence scheme. no need for fans who just fall off a bandwagon, pick themselves up and move to being a steelers fan or cowboys fan.
"hit the road jack. don't you come back no more no more. no more no more. hit the road jack, don't come round here no more."
1 more season > loyalty none.

Say what you want. Doesn't bother me. I think you are trying to say I have no loyalty. So you should have used = not >.

Why do you think they were drafted on the 3rd day anyway. It's because they never consistently have shown up in CFB, so don't complain about who we draft from the 4th-7th rounds because they're really supposed to be projected as career back-ups. If they become starters or pro-bowlers that's just a bonus.

Exactly- if you can pick up a Tom Brady in the sixth, or a Marquis Colston in the seventh- count yourself extremely lucky.

I agree with that.
Here is how I view it per round.
1st....at minimum a solid, top 3rd player at his position. Could start for most teams.
2nd....turns in to a solid starting NFL player. Could start for many teams
3rd....at minimum a good spot starter and top of the line back-up player. Could start for several teams.
4th...A solid back-up and a core special team player. A player who pushes the starters.
5th...a special teamer
6th..a specialty player like a kicker, or a guy with a little something in several areas
7th..a wing and a prayer. Has a special gift...like real fast, but lots of questions.
