Anyone Want To Talk Defense This Week?

The Browns Board
20 12 836
  • Essentially gave up 138 yards rushing to a 3rd and 4th RB...

    Gave up 22/35 for 208 yards and 3 TD's to a noodle-armed Harvard boy...

Registered one sack for -2 yds..

Were given one fumble... why I do not understand...

I've been saying... our D is not that strong.

We were opportunistic against a rusty Vick in game one and that's been it and folks here couldn't quit gushing about how great we were... despite giving up 450+ yards.

Then last week around here we were "The Gang that Couldn't Tackle Straight"... we were total shit... despite giving up fewer yards both on the ground and through the air...

And this week??? Just crickets chirping...

    What's up with that?

I had to check the stats, as I could've sworn you were talking about the Steelers. Pittsburgh gave up 119 yards nearly doubling Oaklands ground output from the first two games. Palmer completed 24/34 for 202 yards, we registered 1 sack for -7 yards and the defense was gift wrapped an opening play interception. My god the Browns are catching up. The end is definately near for the Steelers.

  • The Browns really need help at the OLB positions, they have needed it for awhile yet. Our first round pick next year absolutely must go for an impact player in the front seven. Jackson and Ward are the only players who are always in play that consistently tackle.

The defense has been subpar. During the first week the Eagles lit up the Browns on the ground and in the air. If they did not have Michael Vick starting, I'm assuming they would've won by two or three touchdowns easily. Getting Haden back and getting Taylor back to rotate (Winn has been playing well) should help them out a bit, but they need an athletic linebacker and a better safety opposite of Ward, who is basically playing the role of an athletic OLB.

Maybe. Probably because the Steelers are sliding some.

Yea, the Browns are in the middle of a youth movement. Hopefully they will "age" by the second half of this season.

Age is showing up on the Steeler's defense.

Hopefully the Browns offense will be on an upswing arch like this: /

And the Steelers on a downswing arch like this: \

And somewhere they will meet in the middle:

Indeed. We have been saying this for a year. The Browns DID attempt to get SOME help there by drafting JMJ and Acho. But Acho is on IR and JMJ is where? in his recovery from his oblique injury.

To make things worse, Fujita will be out again soon with his suspension.....however, did you notice that when Fujita did not play in that first game against the Eagles how much better the LBs performed with UFA's Robertson and LJ Fort playing?

I actually thought the probability was that our starting LB corps could have been: DQ, JMJ, and Acho. It may still end up being two of those 3 if JMJ gets better.

  • No, the #1 next year will not go towards D. Good teams are built around great OL, DL, and QB. We'll have 1.5 of those this year - when Taylor comes back, we'll have great DL play, and average OL play.

I fully expect to keep the #1 and draft Barkley.

    And until then we will...

  • Sure i will talk defense, our defense will actually look like a superbowl defense against your crappy team. That sad part it's not even remotely as good as it will look this week. Our defense is not the vaunted and feared d it used to be. Here's to drafting a pass rushing specialist next year.

Unless Weeden absolutely stinks the rest of the year I don't see any conceivable way the Browns will draft Barkley.

Yup, in my book the #1 need is a stud OLB. Fujita's getting up there, and Maiava is a journeyman talent at best.

I expected the Steelers defense to slide some this year, but they appear to be sliding off a cliff. I wouldn't say the Steelers are old, I would say they drafted poorly on defense the past few years. Bad player personnel selections are starting to become glaringly apparrent. Jason Worilds, Ziggy Hood, Cam Heywood, and Lawerence Timmons all 1/2 round picks have next to zero impact in a game. Tomlin is forcing Hampton as starter, when the undrafted guy McClendon was clearly playing better in camp/pre-season. Ike Taylor is too spooked by Roger Goodell's dream of a kindler/gentler NFL and keeps wanting to hug recievers.

  • Barkley is going to get picked apart... and rightfully so. His passing efficiency is terrible right now and with two wideouts who will probably be 1st or 2nd rounders; that simply should not happen at the college level. He also doesn't have the size, athleticism, or arm strength.

Jarvis Jones and Barkevious Mingo would be great picks and with the current rookie wage scale it's conceivable to pick them at number one. I personally dislike the guy, but if Tyrann Mathieu declares for the draft after his year off, I would like the Browns to get him to play inside as a nickelback. He will slide because of character issues, and size/speed issue, but he makes impact plays. I always thought Skrine could be a starter, but after watching him, he just isn't instinctive at all. Brown should be let go, and Skrine should be demoted.

Jesus H. Fucking Christ. Quit with the Barkley shit. We have a QB on our roster right now better than Barkley.....his name is Colt McCoy....and we have a guy better than McCoy in Weeden.

Then you and the Steelers may end up in the same boat: home for the holidays.

Finally, someone with a brain. Gracias.

Right now, Jones and Mingo seem likee guys to keep the eyes on.

  • i'll talk to defense. fantasy football defense.

i benched the browns' D in lieu of the eagles' D this week.

ray rice and flacco are going to eat us up. better chances that eagles' D looks better against giants as they know each other so well.

(but i did bench anquan boldin for jeremy maclin. boldin has done squadoosh this year).

on point: if mathieu is the second round pick him up. that's about where he is projected now. but we need LB help and even DT (who knows how this injury to taylor will affect him going forward. didn't DQ have the same type of torn muscle problem years ago? and finally 4 years later he looks like he's finally over it). i love mathieu (he single-handlely won the first LSU/Alabama matchup last year. could use him as punt kick returner as well as CB).
