How much would it cost to put armed guards in every public school?

Around my town business' pay off duty police maybe $20 a hour.

I suppose you could hire your own certified security officers who work for the school system....pay and provide benefits on a level with a teacher....you would have lot's of cops applying for those positions.

30-40 K per school is a realistic amount that could be raised. A middle of the road security monitoring system with 4-5 cameras would be easy enough to put in place.

Also, something I have said for years, every parent with a child in school should be required to pay X dollars for the extra security and OR be required to work a day a year as a hall monitor. Just stand watch with walkie talkie in hand at various posts throughout the school.

I am not big on mandating to business, but one I would is when a parent is assigned a verified "school" day, they don't get docked pay. Their place of employment has to pay them their normal days pay, be it a full time salary or the 4 hours they averaged down at the local restaurant.

Getting more parents in to these schools would help control the kids if they see their parents, or the parents of friends walking the halls.

On any given school day you might have 4-5-6 parents to help keep watch.

They had a big problem in the Parma City School system here a couple of years ago. They found out that Police Officers were calling off sick, being paid sick leave, then working for the Parma School System as Security, thereby getting paid twice. One guy made over $100,000. There was a big deal in the PD about this as Parma had big budget problems.

  • We can't even pass a levy here lol

  • Divert the funds for lib "diversity training, marxist dogma, and evolution at the expense of religious beliefs, etc,

and it would help correct our curriculum deficiencies, ....towards safety in schools. A simple security system would

    do wonders.

Meanwhile, a kid killed his family with gasoline. Not one lib thinks we need to control that dangerous, potentially lethal substance.

Not one lib cares about the deaths.

Gasoline does way more good and has more of a positive affect on our society than guns do, just saying.

"Evolution at the expense of religious beliefs"

What the fuck are you talking about? When school teaches sciences, and what you believe has no scientific merit, then guess what, it won't get taught. I would want the correct, scientifically backed principle to be taught at the expense of the incorrect one with no sicence behind it....

  • You mis-spelled "science", btw.....

I'm fine with teaching evolution. But teaching that God doesn't exist because of evolution is part of

the left's misinterpretation of the "separation of church and state".

As in, no mandated religion established by the state.,

It's turned into an anti-God, intimidation of anybody in a school, who has religious beliefs.

If students freely choose to do a school play that has religious basis to it....

the ACLU lawsuit will be threatened fast. There IS science behind evolution.

There is also science behind Christianity. But any science the left doesn't like,

they refuse to accept. As nearly? always. That should have been obvious...

    You said

"Gasoline does way more good and has more of a positive affect on our society than guns do, just saying"

Where's the "science" in that? Gasoline ever PROTECT life? It's only taken lives.

Millions of guns, the Castle laws, ccw, - are a huge, huge deterent to violent crime.

Go look at Australia and Great Britain and Wales. They tried it, had the opposite affect that they wanted.

Criminals had the guns in the civilian populace.

Alchohol kills, too. Is there that much benefit to society with alchohol? Why not "ban" it then?

Make it harder to obtain? We have laws ...but underage kids still get it.... and all too often,

    bad, and tragic things happen.

Education is the key, and the REestablishment of responsibllity as a cultural American ideal, instead of

one party pandering to the exact opposite. It's called "enabling", and over the decades, it's taken a sad toll on our

    country.

  • I don't drink alcohol.

Gas fuels cars. Cars are very important.

Guns kill people in crime. Sometimes they hunt. Sometimes they protect. None of those things get close to the positives of gasoline. Basically, you had a shitty comparison.

I never once was told "there is no God" in school. What you read on conservative sites about the dirty liberal isn't always true. Really, half the shit you say about liberals probably isn't true. This us just the most recent example. No crazy liberal teacher is going around insulting the good Christian students and sating there is no God.

Also, post the science that helps prove Christianity. Really I can't wait. I want to know how 2 of every animal fit on a boat or how the Earth is only 6000 years old.

Finally, link me to a study talking about crime, guns and Whales (or one if those countries) please. I'm not doubting you completely, I just like numbers

Thats a problem leaving school funding to a levy system. At some point elected officials need to make hard decisions, even if unpopular with the voters.

Take Strongsville...I don't know anything about it other than where it is and I like to eat at Don's Pomeroy house.

I would imagine it has 1 HS, 1-2 Middleschools and 3-4 elementary schools. I don't count private schools, they do their own thing. So we are talking 7 schools, which would mean 7-8 positions to fill. I don't see that as a big problem...you are talking 50 or so thousand per school and another one time 15K expense to install 7-8 security cameras at various locations that would be monitored.

I like the idea of armed teachers. It wouldn't have to be all of them....maybe 4-5 per school....the ones that want to take on the responsibility. Give them a little more pay just like a coach gets a little more pay. Don't even let students know who carries and who doesn't. Get them trained and let them carry. That might give these punks some cause for pause knowing it isn't just a bunch of people who might throw a book at them but possibly 5-6 teachers who might start shooting at them.

  • Guns are also used by city state and federal police, the FBI and all branches of the armed forces.

The comparison between guns cars is only valid in this regard:

Human life is not really a priority.

Of the thousands upon thousands of auto accident deaths in the United States each and every year how many would be prevented with a nation wide 35 mile per hour speed limit?

    But it would be inconvenient.

Even if they don't know specifically which teacher it is, the kids will know that there are 5 guns in the school. Do they carry them on their person? If so, they can be seen if a teacher bends over the wrong way. I'm a teacher, and a significant amount of time, my back is turned to my class while I'm writing on the board. If I have one of these guns, my job becomes much more stressful because I don't know how my students will react if they realize I'm carrying. Weapons within reach of a bunch of immature teens is not a good idea.

Yeah I agree. Secretly arming teachers in the school is a bad idea. Students will easily find out. Hell, we knew which teachers were gonna get laid off if the levy failed again

Oh my god I live there! Yeah the Pomeroy house is great.

Anyway we have 1 high school and 2 middle schools which they are both gonna tear down to make one giant school. They've also been removing some elementary schools lately.

We only were able to pass the levy once by removing buses and making all the parents drive their kids in...

We already have a cop in the school, no idea what he does though .

Simply talking about saving innocent lives.

A 35 mile per hour speed limit would save thousands.

And instead of costing tax money it would be a financial cash cow!

How many people are killed with hand guns every year?

Since no 1 really needs 1 to hunt why not ban them all together?

Why be so selective with your altruism?

Hey I'd agree to that, no problem. The problem with that lies with guys like diehard who aren't insane and get something out of shooting. I get it, really I do. I don't hate target shooting, its fun. I like history's top shot. It's hard to tell someone who enjoys that that they'd have to live without it, but like I said, plenty of people enjoy/enjoyed smoking but it didn't stop everyone else who hated it from fucking the mighty tobacco industry in their collective ass. The NRA better start lubing up early because I think they'll be in the same boat as big tobacco soon.

You are assuming everyone would break the speed limit? If anything it would hinder the economy and society. A longer time in the car is less time buying things in a store.

    Its a cost benefit thing...
