    Alex Jones is an asshole.

  • This one is much easier to tolerate. A well presented case, not two idiot blowhards screaming at each other.

  • That was actually informative. As such, I'm wondering why it's being posted on this forum.

    Welcome to my M.O.

  • And thanks.

Alex Jones is a maniac, but he was trying to (I think) make the same point. - # of guns -> + violent crime.

  • Regarding the 50% drop in the crime rate, as cited by the FBI. There is a considerable correlation between Roe v Wade and the decline of crime ~15-25 years afterwards. The theory goes like this... Since the option of abortion was available, less people were raised in shitty homes in impoverished areas, thus you had less 15-25 year old males who were desperate.

Here's the site of one of the guys who founded this hypothesis, along with some critiques of his work and his responses.

But the number of guns has been on a steady rise since roe v wade, yet violent crime (and even homicides involving guns) have decreased. 15-25 yrs post roe v wade puts us at 1988-1998. Crime was declining independent of that statistic. And before it. and after it. And guns are still increasing. Amazing.

Is the statistic you're referring to the number of guns or roe v wade? If you're talking about the court case, I disagree, and there is strong statistical evidence to show otherwise. If you're talking about the number of guns, I can do you one better. That decline in crime also happened during the expiration of an assault weapons ban and the legalization of ccw.

    Roe v wade.

Nothing is obviously truly independent, but that assumption can be made because crime was decreasing before during and after 1988-1998. But i agree that it contributed. so I dont get Jonathan Swifty, I'll refrain from suggesting who and in what areas of the the country should be *ahem* sterilized.

As to your other point: Agreed. There's also the story of kennesaw Georgia ( pop <20k) where gun ownership was mandated in 1982 (head of household with some exceptions). Violent crime dropped 50% year 1 and 50% year 2. They had 3 murders between 1982-1997 with only one involving a handgun.
