Should We Consider The Honey Badger?
-
In spite of his off-field issues, does his talent make him worthy of a selection? He could certainly contribute and I'm sure our locker room could handle him. Getting away from Louisiana will do him good too. Thoughts, opinions?

If he is there in the 3rd I'd consider it. His ability to return kicks alone makes him a viable pick.
He is also a guy who might be able to jump to the other side of the ball and be a really exciting offensive option.

I think he may be there to be picked up as a UFA.

Well, impressive- but with all disrespect Michigan, Wolverines (not much larger than badgers) have to be runners-up. they can take down caribou and deer, and have been known to fight off bears.

He will be drafted.....maybe by the 3rd round. No way he goes 7 undrafted.

he will be drafted. the guy would have been a first rounder if he woulda played this year but he had to be stoopid and hang around with a bunch of dummies instead of seeing what was in front of him and concentrate on his future in the nfl.
i would definitely pick him in the third round, if he's still there. the guy single-handedly won that first LSU vs. BAMA matchup 2 years ago. fumble hits/recoveries for td's, kickoff return for td,.... at that time he was the only dude i had pinpointed to play across from haden.
now i'd be afraid he might infect haden with his immaturity considering haden aderol suspension last year.
i'd take him if there was something in his contract stating that we could cut him at any point if did anything detrimental to the team.
and to tcpo: one player does not make a team. sure we were 5-11 before and after we drafted haden but did we address any other key positions of need across and in front of him. i'll tell you what the percentages of passes thrown his way vs. the passes thrown to the other side or middle must be pretty lopsided. outside thomas, mack, taykor, sheard, DQ, TR the only other name on that list is haden. i think he's the best player on the team. just my opinion.

If we don't address the corner position with the 6th pick then I think it would be a steal to pick up the Honey Badger in the 3rd. He's an athlete who makes big plays... His style surprisingly reminds me of Joe Haden (very agile, lays out for the football, in the right position to make a play). I would like to see us somehow trade up and get another 3rd pick to get this guy, his value/output is to high for his draft position to be in the 3rd or later, even with the issues. Ideally I would like the Browns to have Haden, FA veteran, and the honey badger at the nickel. Gives you depth at CB and in time the potential for Honey Badger to be the starter opposite of Haden

Probably wouldn't happen with Benjamin on the roster. Benajmin runs the 40 a full 2 tenths of a second faster than Mathieu.
The great thing about Cribbs, and almost all of the great kick returners of all-time (although not Metcalf)were that were dedicated special teamers who were just part time role players.
I think we have plans to use Benjamin as a wide receiver. Put him back for the occasional punt return when the game is on the line, but don't get him killed playing special teams full time.
Either re-sign Cribbs or bring in another guy for the kick returner role, I think Benjamin has a real future as a wide receiver.

i think benjamin is a burner and i like how he spreads the field but i don't remember much of him in the return game. don't know if he has the field vidion like a cribbs or a hester who knows when to burst through the first line and then make that one cut that frees him with the speed.
hey, we'll see. when i mentioned metcalf it was more about the size comparison to mathieu, and what i saw of him in that bama game.

That's where I disagree, I think he's a full time special teamer and a part time offensive weapon in the eyes of Chud and co. Reports are that they're looking for a WR to bring in, which would move Benjamin to 4th WR in an offense that utilizes a 2 TE set. So, in effect, he would rarely be used.
If they don't bring in a WR, then I feel his chances are much greater to be a part of the offense.

I don't remember hearing his name much, but I think that's because Cribbs was used more often than not.
I do remember this though:
He holds the record for longest punt return in Browns history already. Having both Mathieu and Benjamin back there on kickoffs would really open up some options.

Don't badger me about the 'Badger anymore. 5' 9", bulked up to impress the scouts (185). Ran a so-so 40 (4.5). At that height, he had better be able to jump out of the building, and he didn't 34" vertical. Wimpy 4 reps in the bench press.
Guys like AJ Green will out jump him by a foot, or shove him into the first row seats.
Looks like a player tailor made for the Bengals or Raiders- in the third round.

Some guys ... Honey badger, Te'o, Colt McCoy ... dominate at the college level because they are great football players, but just lack the God-given speed, size or strength to be elite NFL players.
Just like I can be a successful real estate Broker in Naples, FL, but I'd probably get chewed up on Manhattan. Everybody has their level.
Not saying these guys can't have a worthy career in the NFL ... but they won't be the stars they were in college.

I dunno, I think you could do quite well in Kansas.

I am glad you posted this question. If the Browns do their research based on his play and determine that he is a first round talent with off the field issues then I would say absolutely take him if he is there in the third. If we don't you know the Bengals will and he will shut us down twice per year. I was sitting yesterday thinking about this very question and thinking that the Browns have had this problem for a long time. Every year you hear about teams taking players who's stock has dropped for various reasons and they end up with a steal. The Bengals got one last year with Burfict. When was the last time we actually took a gamble. We keep saying we need more playmakers. More top caliber athletic talent. This is how you get better talent. Taking educated risks gets you talent. The Ravens do it, the Bengals do it, Raiders do it poorly, lol.....But I believe we need to do more of this if we really want to reach the next level. I want 1st round athletic talent in the 3rd, 2nd round talent in the 4th etc.... if one of them pans out we have one star which we wouldn't likely have in the talent level of a third or fourth rounder. And if we hit on both wow!

from what i've heard the real estate magnets still have to service as drug dealers to their clientele (same as FLA) so you could do quite well.

it is a gamble, all of it. but if you ain't in, you can't win it.

I would definately take a chance on him before I would take a chance on TEO. Maybe I am crazy but if you have a fake girlfriend that is way worse than smoking some weed.

I don't get it. Some folks actually WANT this guy in the third round? I agree with you, I think he'll get burnt by speedy wideouts & it's "no contest" against the tall and/or physical WRs in the NFL. Oh, did I forget his character issues? I wouldn't touch this kid with a 10' pole. My personal opinion of him is MAJOR BUST, but we'll see. I'm certainly not a Pro GM, Scout, or Coach. Just another opinionated Fan.
