Steelers Release Harrison

They've drafted poorly since Tomlin?
Mendenhall (despite his label in Pittsburgh had several very productive seasons), Lewis, Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Pouncey, Timmons, Woodley, DeCastro (yet to be proven but has all the tools), Cortez Allen and the verdict is still out on Worilds.
Okay, so since 2008 the Steelers have hit 2-3 homeruns (Pouncey, Wallace and A. Brown). The have drafted a number of starters and have improved their overall selections considerably from 2008 (Abysmal Class) to 2011. I'm not really looking at 2012's class yet. You don't make a convincing argument with the names you have listed.
1. Keenan Lewis is mostly likely heading to the Browns...and he's better than Cortez Allen.
2. Mendenhall (the only somewhat decent pick of 2008) is no longer on the team.
3. Mike Wallace is a Miami Dolphin and not helping Pittsburgh out.
4. Antonio Brown seems to be a good pickup, but the Steelers tied up too much money in him after only one good season.
5. Pouncey was a homerun, if only he can stay healthy. Unfortunately they made some less than stellar pickups in Gilbert and Rainey based on Pouncey. Gilbert injured a number of lineman, including DeCastro because, well because he stinks and can't hold his ground.
6. Timmons was a poor consolation prize after Tomlin tipped his hand on Revis. Timmons has shown flashes and nothing more. He got way to big a contract based on flashes and has failed to outperform Larry Foote.
7. Woodley was a world beater for 2 years, got a big contract and a big gut and has hardly played a down since. Wasted cap space.
8. DeCastro has too little a body of work to be singing praises too.

"fellow yinzers"?
You don't understand. You are looking at things as the Browns do it. The Steelers don't fill from the stars of other teams.
You can say "who is going to replace Wallace", but none of us knew about Wallace until they lost Homes, and we were all saying "Who do they have to replace Homles?. No one knew about Harrison until they lost Porter.
Thats how the Pats and Steelers do it.
In 3 years there are going to be new names that they will lose that we don't know about now. And we will say "They're done now"
I understand we don't like facts here. But look at the Linebackers and Recievers they lose, and within a year there is always someone new that takes over.
That's the fact!

Yes, yinzers. Do you have a problem being called that? I could come up with much worse. Besides it was one of yinzers that told me that that is what you called yourselves.
You don't understand. You are looking at things as the Browns do it. The Steelers don't fill from the stars of other teams.
No, I fully understand that the Steelers don't usually go heavy into the FA market. But, perhaps what you don't understand is that even if the Steelers don't go heavily into the FA market, that does not mean they don't lose players to the FA market.
You can say "who is going to replace Wallace", but none of us knew about Wallace until they lost Homes, and we were all saying "Who do they have to replace Homles?. No one knew about Harrison until they lost Porter.

Again, I understand the facts. The facts are, yes, the Steelers have been very fortuitous in replacing big names on their teams with new players they have drafted.
I understand that they have had a very successful operation that has kept them at a top echelon.
I understand that they have had one of the best coaches in history running their defense.
I also know that it will not necessarily always be that way.
You think that because the steelers have always come back from down periods that it will happen again. You think that 8-8 is a down season for you, because in the past they have always been able to rebound.
You go on faith that the new LBs and WRs will become as good as the old LBs and WRs. Understandable
But that doesn't mean it MUST happen, or that it will happen. It MAY happen. Then again the time may be that it does not.
As for the Patriots. We shall see. Their primary success has been achieved through the auspices of one man....and when that man is no longer around we shall see whether or not they will maintain their success.
-
Looks like the steelers are so desperate that they are signing former Cleveland Brown cast off Bruce Gradkowski.
And they cut G wilie colon.
When Big gay goes down, which he normally does we are going to have to really game plan for this guy.
Evil laugh...

yeah,I mean...you cant replace HOF talent like Polly who is retired or will retire. James Harrison will/has probably roided himself out of the league...I dont feel one bit sorry for the stools..May they land happily into a pile of shit!

OH, NO, that is not what Soulja Boy says. He says that no matter who the Steelers lose they will always come up with someone just as good to replace them with. That they will just scrounge the bottom of some barrel and come up smelling like roses.
For the past many years that has been the case.
But this time it seems that they will have to go dumpster diving many, many times. And sorry, you go dumpster diving enough you will frequently just come up with garbage.

Well, with the Ravens defense now retired, or playing somewhere else it's about time for the division to turn upside down. Browns and Bengals battle it out for the top spot.

As in tide turning, it will probably involve the Steelers and Browns duking it out for the highest draft spot from the AFC North. The Bengals and Ratbirds will probably duke it out for the Division crown, and at this time both are favored to make the play-offs. Weeden hasn't shown anything and your coaching staff don't seem to enamored with him. In order to be contenders the Browns need a signal caller to emerge and possibly another wide reciever. Your defense (as is) will probably keep you in most games.

Keenan Lewis had one very solid season. He had a lot of deflected passes but not alot of turnovers. He's a sure tackler but every cb in the steeler system has to be able to tackle, at least if they're going to start. The REASON Keenan Lewis is testing the market right now is because the FO believes Allen is the better corner back. He will prove that this coming season, especially if Lewis leaves. He's faster, he's big like Ike Taylor and he has great hands. Lewis is meeting with the Saints, i haven't seen ANY serious reporting on him landing with the Browns.2. Mendenhall (the only somewhat decent pick of 2008) is no longer on the team.
I agree this draft class was pretty rough. Limas Sweed didn't pan out, nor did Bruce Davis. I'm still a fan of Mendenhall but he ran himself out of town and apparently there wasn't a whole lot of interest elsewhere as he signed a one year (feel it out) type contract with the Cardinals3. Mike Wallace is a Miami Dolphin and not helping Pittsburgh out.
How exactly is this a knock on their drafting? He just got paid 12M per because of his ability. The Steelers couldn't offer him that contract so it's now a knock on their drafting? Makes absolutely zero sense4. Antonio Brown seems to be a good pickup, but the Steelers tied up too much money in him after only one good season.
New offensive coordinator and oft injured Ben hurt his numbers but there is no denying his ability and he's worth that contract.5. Pouncey was a homerun, if only he can stay healthy. Unfortunately they made some less than stellar pickups in Gilbert and Rainey based on Pouncey. Gilbert injured a number of lineman, including DeCastro because, well because he stinks and can't hold his ground.
Rainey was going to be something before he decided to rough up his gf. The Steelers don't usually draft character question marks but I think they were playing it off his connection with Pouncey to get him over the hump. Gilbert on the other hand will be playing LT where he's apparently better suited. Outside of rolling up on guys (a problem) he's been solid.6. Timmons was a poor consolation prize after Tomlin tipped his hand on Revis. Timmons has shown flashes and nothing more. He got way to big a contract based on flashes and has failed to outperform Larry Foote.
What the hell are you watching exactly? He's one of the most athletically gifted inside linebackers in the NFL and hardly a "consolation prize" and he's twice the linebacker that foote is. He's coming off a very strong season, his "down" season was attributed to filling in for injuries at outside linebacker for both Woodley and Harrison. Timmmons is a damn beast, as explosive as Polamalu in his prime and he hits like a dump truck. Nevermind his ability to close on guys. You're on another planet with this one, sorry.7. Woodley was a world beater for 2 years, got a big contract and a big gut and has hardly played a down since. Wasted cap space.
He's been battling hamstring issues but I agree he hasn't been as productive but he was called out on it as a direct result. I expect to see him in much better shape, carrying less weight and a return to his dominant ways. I also think we'll see Worilds starting at LOLB and Woodley getting bumped to ROLB.8. DeCastro has too little a body of work to be singing praises too.
Way to early to tell, i agree. My responses are designated with the
. I still fail to see how losing guys in free agency reflects poorly on their ability to draft. If anything it's a testament to the guys that are getting heavy interest in the open market. Therefore your post by in large is garbeezy and short sighted but that's fine. I watch a lot of football and I'm seeing something completely different than your above assessment and I'm not alone. Timmons was what 21 when he joined the NFL. He's just entering his "PRIME" and had a tremendous season last year. -

You realize that the Ravens are losing a lot of bodies to free agency right? A lot of leadership if Reed goes and Lewis obviously retired. Boldin was the primary driving force in the Super Bowl. Now Flacco is left with just Torrey Smith and the tight ends. The demise of the Steelers is pretty damn premature and the Bengals aren't invincible either. Did you happen to see Dalton shitting the bed in the playoffs? Hell had Ben not been injured and came back too soon. (It's shaking out now his throwing power suffered. Ben the drama queen dropping stuff to the media like he always does) The Steelers would have been the playoffs themselves. It should also be noted that i hear A LOT of the doom and gloom on my primary message board, the local media also talks about it plenty but they present both sides. Yes some high profile guys are leaving but that doesn't mean the roster that remains is chopped liver AND they're drafting "high" again. I don't know who i like in the first round but I'm thinking it's going to be a safety, possibly vacaro and I'd love to grab Arthur Brown in the second (might require a trade up) and Bell the Tailback from Michigan state in the 3rd. As long as Ben is on this roster the Steelers have the ability to win. They'll draft the heir apparent eventually but until then the Steelers have all the tools to be in the thick of it for a long, long while. They've done a whole lot of winning since the merger and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. I will say that eventually they are going to have to or at least get forced into stepping away from the restructures. My only concern currently. I expect Plaxico to pick up some of the slack left by Wallace and Sanders to come in to his own and Worilds needs to prove his worth, beyond that I'm not too concerned.

Yeah- we've been good forever and it's not going to change. I think you're in for an attitude adjustment this year.
All the tools to be in it? Is Hampton even on the roster anymore? Who's your LT? Poly-moo-moo is starting to get dinged on a regular basis. Yeah- Beanie Wells, that's the ticket. I wouldn't trade you the Steelers WRs for the Browns now straight up. Burress needs a long soak in the Hot Tub Time Machine guy- about all he's good for anymore is jump balls on fades in the end zone.

I disagree that Weeden hasn't shown "anything". He has proven that he has a big league arm. He just needs to make some better decisions which all comes with experience.
And, quite frankly, if it had not been for the abnormally good years by rookie QBs Griffin, Luck, and Wilson, BW3's rookie season would have been considered fairly good in the pantheon of all rookie QBs in the last 40+ years.

Wells isnt going to be expensive if they do sign him. I expect to see them drat a guy, possibly bell from michigan state. Hampton will be replaced by steve mclendon and marcus gilbert will be at left tackle, adams at right tackle. As far as polamalu is concerned as long as hes healthy he will play at a high level, he did to close out the year. Im guessing we will draft a safety at 17. Kenny vacaro possibly. As fa as the recievers are concerned you have gordon. I will take brown over him. Little has proven less than sanders and you have weeden, we have ben. Advantage steelers.

Personally I think its funny to see two steeler fans scratch it out over how bad there team is on the browns board.
Oh the irony, but homotron, endimoey is 100% right and its reinforces everything that has been said on here.
Father time has caught up, a couple poor drafts, shitty cap management and poof your done.
I didn't know he was a Steeler fan for one. Secondly what are we betting that they aren't done? Also were are all these heinous drafts? The Mendenhall drafted ended up being pretty rough. Otherwise were are these poor drafts? Isn't this what the Steelers always do? Restock with role players in FA and hit the draft. They're talking to Dan Connor, possibly Beanie Wells/Steven Jackson. Keeping some of their own and I won't be shocked to see Harrison back in the fold if he doesn't like what he says on the market. I'd like to get Lewis back but Cortez Allen is more athletically gifted and he's ready to go now. We also pick relatively high at pick 17, not high like you guys always seem to pick but high for the Steelers. Let's wait and see before you jump on the "old and tired" train. Seeing as this board is playing in the cousin eddie casino from vegas vacation as far as predictions worth a damn are concerned.
Secondly what are we betting that they aren't done?
I will listen to any resonable offer.
Lets hash out the terms and damages.
Hey your making yourself look like a pussy. Lets hear it...My offer is
The steelers have to "make it" to the superbowl? And if steelers "don't make it" to the super bowl you owe my old lady and I dinner? If the steelers "do make it" to the super bowl I owe you and your life partner Chuck dinner.
Sounds fair, because we have heard from you on how the steelers are so deep and can afford to lose a guy and have someone just as good on the bench.

It has been evidenced that often the quality of the WR is based on the quality of the guy throwing him the ball. Several WRs who flourished in NE because Brady was throwing to them have not faired so well when they went elsewhere.
Mike Wallace is going from a place with a proven QB to a place with an unproven QB, so it remains to be seen if he can duplicate what he did in pisstown.
If you had Gordon and Little on the Steelers roster you would have your legs wrapped around them like a 40 dollar whore. If they had BR throwing to them right now you would proclaim them Hall of Fame candidates. They are both superior athletes over Browns and Sanders. Whether or not they have the WR skills remains to be seen. Of course that could again depend on the quality of the person throwing to them.

Oh im worried about the steelers. We have depth but its not great at certain positions. I just dont believe we are going to see an epic collapse and if we do have a bad year i expect it to be one and done. There are 100% issues with the roster. They can also only continue to restucture for so long.

As fa as the recievers are concerned you have gordon. I will take brown over him. Little has proven less than sanders and you have weeden, we have ben. Advantage steelers.

I agree on the qb. I made that statement myself. However id love to know based on what grounds you seat your argument that little and gordon are superior athletes. It sounds like you pulling more shit from your ass. Little didnt know how to catch until this most recent season.

Yinzertron:
All teams draft players who become starters. Out of your list, the Steelers drafted 2, maybe 3 stars (Pouncey and Wallace for sure) and one's not on the team. However, Miami will regret paying Wallace $13M/yr once his speed diminishes. Timmons plays 1-2 games a season where he looks like the best MLB ever and the other 14 games he seems to be MIA. You don't pay a guy star money for 1-2 great games per season. Further, Woodley has become fat and lazy since getting paid like a star. He's 10x worse than Timmons, because he only plays 2-3 mediocre games a season before he strains his beer gut. Antonio Brown is a good reciever, but I'm not annointing him a star. He didn't exactly do much since signing a big contract. Now that Wallace is gone Brown will draw the double teams and likely become invisible. Maybe they can get him some platform shoes to run in so Ben can see where he's at. Oh, and Gilbert is an awful draft pick. They need to get rid of him before he rolls up another teammate's ankle. I think every offensive player that suffered an ankle injury the past two seasons was the direct result of Gilbert rolling up on it after he failed to hold his ground on a block.
The Steelers are plumb out of recievers behind Brown/Sanders. They got the geriatric justice league of america in Burress and Crotchety. Burress is more likely to catch a his own bullet in his ass than a pigskin pass. Yeah, I'm so excited. Crotchety may play one or two snaps a game. The Steelers are due to select the next Limas Sweed in this years draft. Oh and speaking of old timers, we are replacing Keenan Lewis with William "Burnt Toast" Gay. Yippee, cause I couldn't get enough of Ike Taylor getting toasted!!!
As for Baltimore, they are frankly better coached than Pittsburgh. Caldwell was for Baltimore what we needed out of Haley. I can't wait for more of Haley's predictable playcalling (run, run, pass on 3rd-12) and his twisted owner pleasing reliance on the ground game...especially with the turds have lined up in our backfield. You have one of the best downfield QBs in the game playing dink and dunk one of every three plays. All hail, Beanie "Blown-Knee" Wells!!! He'll right our ship for sure. Anyways, I have more faith that Ozzie Newsome and Jim Harbaugh will correct Baltimore's defensive shuffle than LeBeau will fix Pittsburgh's ills. There just ain't any more rabbits to pull out of LeBeau's hat, Casey Hampton ate them all. Plus the Harbaugh/Flacco tandem hasn't missed the play-offs once now has it? Cleveland and Cincinnati are far better off defensively than Pittsburgh and possibly Baltimore. Cincinnati has the most talent on paper...yet somehow the Bengals find a way to muck it up...Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the Browns will actually win the division this year.
Lastly, I wouldn't bet a better team record with Erie Dawg this year, let alone the Super Bowl scheme he's trying to con you into.

Oh im worried about the steelers. We have depth but its not great at certain positions. I just dont believe we are going to see an epic collapse and if we do have a bad year i expect it to be one and done. There are 100% issues with the roster. They can also only continue to restucture for so long.

My basis for claiming that Gordon and Little are superior athletes is the fact that they are bigger, faster, stronger than Brown and Sanders. What is it about that aspect of being a "superior athlete" you don't understand.
I acknowledged that at this stage that they may not be as experienced or have the WR skills down pat yet. Did you miss that part of my statement? Those skills would include holding on to the ball.
But Little is a beast. He blocks like Hines Ward did, only he is about 40 pounds heavier.
Gordon may not quite have the pure speed that Wallace had, but he is faster than Brown. But sure, Brown has a certain mastery due to his experience that Gordon doesn't quite have. But certainly Gordon has exhibited all the potential to have those skills.
No, I would say that these WRs are pretty much on par.....and with experience, and a decent QB, they can certainly surpass the pisstown pair.
