I'd put that mainly on the boomers to be honest. And also to be fair, not all people raise their kids like that. I don't allow my kids to create chaos because frankly, it's embarrassing. I don't like when they scream. Screaming is for if someone's trying to abduct your. I will agree that many parents can't differentiate bring stern enough to keep their kids under control, and child abuse you have to worry that some new age asshole is going to call child services on you if your kid has a fit and you drag his ass outside by the arm.

So your parents were boomers no doubt.

Baby boomers are the first generation I know of where divorces were just as commonplace as marriages. If that's not destructive to the family unit I don't know what is.

  • Political Correctness is the Communism of the 21st Century. In theory it's a good thing, but it's manipulated and corrupted to rot society at it's core.

Props to Billy Corgan for surviving 20+ years with which appears to be terminal cancer.

  • think of this...

we all came from a household - home sometime in our lives,

and hopefully for most of us the "growing up" period was without a crisis of some sort?

if you are currently raising kids, or have, the goal is the well being of that kid right?

in todays world, there are many schools of thought driven by what we learn at home-

by parents, by siblings, and are shared as a community.

But with tv and popular culture - kids are left with impressions of what is told or sold to them...

with the absence of a father figure at home, is it any wonder that there are alot of kids growing up

learning from what they see and hear apart from a nurturing home? is it good stuff?

are they angry? sadly I say yes they are - and even acting out the stuff they learn....

Having parents living together who hate each other and fight all the time not too good either.

meh I really cannot agree. My mother was single for a good portion of my life, and I watched Bugs bunny cross dress and kiss men. Yet I do neither.

I watched Tom and Jerry basically kill each other with violence. Yet I am not violent.

Yes having a good family unit is nice but there is more to it then that. I was was raised in a broken home yet I know exactly how a good home operates. My mother raised me to be a responsible person and made sure that me and my brothers understood right from wrong.

A good strong father figure is nice but it is not essential. My grandfather died at a young age when he was hit by a car but my parents family came out as decent people, because my Grandmother made it a point that she had decent children.

We have a lot in common dude.

But I think we are getting off track. Corgan is discussing how to change this. That is what I was hoping to discuss. Not really discussion the facts when we were young because quite honestly, it doesn't apply today.

I am NOT making a value judgement on anybody - and for the most part, I remember the same cartoons....

what I am saying is the bombarding of messages in popular culture that can capture a young mind into a lifestyle that they may not be ready to

deal with... like having sex and worse-getting pregnant- because my concern is for my two daughters-

I really dont appreciate Lady GaGa or that cartoon Nicki Minaj having any influence on them-

but they do.. why? because I let them listen to their music (groan) and give them the leeway to figure it out for themselves..

all the while giving them the instruction and discpline that any good parent will do for their kids. along with forgiving them & loving them when it seems impossible to do!

like your mom and grandma did for you.

The point of my tangent is that we have always had negative influences around us but we had a breakdown somewhere along the way. I feel that a lot has to do with people unwilling to discipline their children. Our parents told us we did wrong and corrected us. When we seen something we did not understand they explained it to us best they could(sex is big on this list). Some of the kids now do not have that and those negative influences take hold.

I can't speak to having kids man (I never will never), I don't profess to know what it is like to be a parent. But I think the point is they cannot figure it out for themselves. I guess growing up with all older bros and sisters helped, I was able to buy my first album, The Police, Synchronicity at 5 and know all the lyrics to Ride the Lightening and The Misfits at 9. But that was art man. Maybe I didn't know it, but you listen to the music and not worry what beer James Hetfield is drinking. Now it a bombardment or who give a fuck. Even MTV barley did that, maybe an hourly update in the mid 90's. Head bangers ball once a week.

Yeah we did get pretty off track. I for the most part agree with his assessment of our media and politicians.

I am going to expand a bit on his comment about anti family television. I don't see that as an agenda being pushed so much as a reflection of our society. since so many are able to identify with broken homes, media has just followed.

I listened to my Beatles Rubber Soul album on 78 speed on our old record player,

so they sounded like the Three Chipmunks.

I lived on the edge. But that gaga tramp =- just plain nasty and mind warping.

I respect your choice, but honestly I think you're missing out. In the early '00s I was the guy that said I'd never have kids but I'm glad I was wrong. It's our biological imperative, for one, our only real purpose in life, but above and beyond that, its the most real, most satisfying love there is. It's cool, I'm not telling you what you should be doing but I'm glad I made the choices I did.

Kids are great when they are under 12, after that they are a pain in the ass. Then they become better after they get thru the know it all stage. If you're lucky they will turn out good. I've know some parents that were great (or seemed so) and had kids ending up in jail. Other kids had bad parents and turned out good. A roll of the dice. I lucked out and my kids went to college and make more money then I ever have.

  • I didn't watch it, don't have time to sit down for an hour, but here's a relevant quote:

The real owners are the big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians, they're an irrelevancy. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They've long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the statehouses, the city halls. They've got the judges in their back pockets. And they own all the big media companies, so that they control just about all of the news and information you hear. They've got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want; they want more for themselves and less for everybody else.

But I'll tell you what they don't want. They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that. That doesn't help them. That's against their interests. They don't want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they're getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago

You know what they want? Obedient workers people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork but just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it. And, now, they're coming for your Social Security. They want your fucking retirement money. They want it back, so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They'll get it. They'll get it all, sooner or later, because they own this fucking place. It's a big club, and you ain't in it. You and I are not in the big club.

    This country is finished.

    RIP George Carlin
