Business As Usual In Cleveland

Bullshit. You never once said anything about FS and Mathieu. Why would they pick a nickel if they needed an outside guy? And if you wanted him at FS then why the continual Rambo talk? So you wanted them to draft 2 FSs? You're backpedaling and looking like an uninformed child who didn't get his way.
Travis Benjamin is the KR/PR. Move on.
McFadden would not have been there in the 4th or 5th round. He was a very highly-rated prospect by reputable evaluators. His name wasn't brought up a lot because of his size, but he has the ability to play the position because of the way he plays + his athleticism. 5'10" isn't a midget and he has a 35" vertical.
I admit to not doing my homework on McFadden before the draft but I didn't have time to get that deep. Like Choco said, just because his name wasn't a popular one on Twitter or the mock drafts, doesn't mean he isn't a good player. He will have a better career than Honey Badger.
We also got Dion Lewis in the Acho traded last month, he is another good returner for us.

"Trade Down to around the 10-14 pick range. In that spot take the best Free Safety in Kenny Vaccaro and pick up a second rounder. The next pick must now be a Cornerback opposite Joe Haden. If Desmond Trufant or Xavier Rhodes is available you stike that card and you just improved your defense. If they are both gone however, we need a playmaker at CB, I would suggest taking Tyrann Mathieu. He is an excellent kick/punt returner and we'll need one of those as Cribbs has left us. The only question I would have is whether this Front Office sees Mathieu as a pure #2 Cornerback, a Nickelback or a Free Safety. If they feel that he's capable to play opposite Haden without incident I would pull the trigger. A heisman finalist as a defensive underclassmen taken in the second round because of off the field behavior would equate to the Browns scoring a steal in this draft. Now if they believe that he's a Free Safety or Nickelback I'd change my first selection from Vaccaro to Rhodes or Trufant and then Mathieu in the second. I doubt that he makes it to the third round and he seems to have the underdawg mentality that Cleveland would embrace much like Joe Haden."
Yeah, I'm back tracking on nothing. I've said that I felt he could be a FS, a Nickel or a #2 and be a KR/PR. I like Rambo for the same reasons. A backfield of Rambo and Mathieu gives us good depth at the position. The cream rises to the top as they say. So what if I suggested taking two players at the same position? Did we not just take a player at 6 overall in a position we just moved Sheard to? It's called depth you boob.

I think when the FO had their meetings they took Hortons requests into consideration. Miami traded up for Dion Jordan, a player who played 45% of the snaps in college. The draft is a crap shoot man and yes we do need a beefed up secondary. Vaccaro would have been great, but who to say he would have been there? Rhodes whould have been another great pick up, but again, who to say he would have been there. The OT's that were drafted really fucked up this draft for us. The draft was so bad 3 were taken in the top 4. If we were at 6 with one of them then yes we would have most likely had a trade to get one of those guys. Banner said they had a trade in place if Mingo was gone also, so they valued him more I guess.

It really bothers me that this regime seems so down on Gordon.

I dont know how they are down, I never did see the Banner comment on a wasted pick though, its obvious that he has skills, and this year he will be a bad mother fucker. Him and little and Bess are going to give coordinators headaches. That is if the garden of Weeden can make the step and be more accurate.

How do they seem down on Gordon? I just heard their press conference sounds like they love him.
Lombardi is the one who spouted off after the pick last summer.
According to MKC, Banner said Gordon needs to prove he was a good pick.

Not a bad stat for not starting the year and being a raw prospect with a rookie qb.

And is this not true? Gordon had an above average rookie year. As far as offense goes, however, the only people with assured, long-term starting positions are JT, Mack, and Schwartz. Every single skill position that we have has shown promise, but this is the year that they need to prove that they're the real deal. This goes for Gordon, Little, Weeden, and even TRich. If they can't do that, then we're drafting their replacements next year.
I'm so happy that this new regime didn't clean house and is giving these guys a chance to show what they've got (even Sheard has a shot at starting, too). It looks to me like people are going to earn their spots based on merit, and that's how it should be.

well we all know now who the 12 year olds are on the board.
if us old ass die hard fans want to bitch about something shut up and listen or turn the fucking page little queefs.
besides mingo this draft was shit. don't believe me? look at all the draft mongers hand out grades tomorrow. then what you gonna say?
mcfadden in a pass happy division? what division do the aztecs play in pac 12, mountain west?? you know why i don't know? is cuz i never heard of the guy and that conference is shit compared to the SEC AND THERE AIN'T NO SQUIRMING OUT OF THAT ARGUMENT ASSHOLE.
maybe if we woulda made a move to move up in the 2nd and get a real CB or S then i'd be happy but the best corner that was left was sitting right in front of us and we whiffed once again.
if you love mcfadden soooo fucking much loudmouth i'll give you a dollar for everytime espn mentions his name making a play next year on sunday night highlights. then you give me a dollar for evertime they mention mathieu.
cheap bitch.

Mathieu sucks balls. Thank God he's not ever going to be on the Browns. I don't have to wish ill on Mathieu - he did that to himself.
He's slow, short, and isn't quick enough to make any plays in the NFL.
McFadden, however, has been shutting WR's down for years.
Also, and this should seal the deal: McFadden played for the team where BRIAN SIPE IS THE QB COACH.
-
Barkevious Mingo - A physical Freak of Nature.
Lee McFadden - I'd prefer they had taken Tyrann Mathieu here... fingers crossed, I hope he can fill the gigantic hole at CB#2. It seems McFadden would have been available in round 4 where they could have taken him there giving us "the badger" in three, he went the very next pick to Arizona.
Jamoris Slaughter - said he's still recovering from the injury but is expected to be ready by the start of training camp. He was surprised to be drafted. I feel we could have taken Rambo here or Rambo in 5.
This draft would have been much better, to me, if it went :
Mingo
Gordon
Mathieu
McFadden
Rambo
then the small school guys. It seems like being this FO's first draft they tended to panic and draft a little too early. Hopefully they break this trend next year and learn from this draft.

Look, ya gotta give it up on Honey Badger. Guy couldn't stay out of trouble in college, so you think (unless in the very unlikely event Dion Sanders knocked some sense into his very thick skull) he's going to manage to stay out of trouble when he has a few hundred thousand $$$$ in his pocket???
The guy was blowing off interviews as recently as a two weeks ago- that's showing a huge lack of maturity, or intelligence- maybe both. Yawn- top level athletic ability, with UFA everything else. Really, how many DBs came off the board before this goober? So buy a clue- NFL GMs know a tad more about football than you do.
If you listened to his interview on ESPN, he hardly can talk coherently. We didn't draft him, and for my part, I'm glad we didn't.

Random note on Armonty Bryant: It has been reported by multiple media outlets that Bryant was arrested in October for selling marijuana to an undercover police officer during a football practice.....please somebody try to sell me this guy over the honey badger try your best.
-
The upside is, now we have people coaching and in the FO, who don't go by "on paper".
If this same draft was by the squeelers, it would be labeled by some as "brilliant" instead of "sucks".
Same old post-draft grades. The stupid "honey badger" is a FAR less talented pacman jones.
And you know how Jones worked out for the team that drafted him. As in, didn't.
This Browns team would have been a better team this next season even without the draft.
Now, I'm really delighted they took Mingo instead of Jarvis. We'll see how it goes with their careers.
But the Browns will be playing aggressive football on both sides of the ball. That will make Sundays
great watching right there.

Ok, I'll try: Honey Badger was already off the board when we picked Bryant.

This statement from Banner sheds some insight on how the Browns approached the draft. Hard to find fault in their strategy.
“We were trying to focus on making sure we got players we thought made us better,” Banner said. “The difference is, on offense, we think we have a lot of young guys. We’re not quite sure what they’re going to be over time. We were inclined to give them some time and see how they develop and we’ll be able to identify where we’re at. On defense, we felt it was clearer to identify what talent was out there, what talent we had, match it up with the philosophy and make some moves that could make the team better.”

like so many Cleveland football games this NFL Draft was unwatchable. we did not fill one damn need. when teams like San Francisco filled more defensive needs than we did I would call that draft a bust. For all that simply love the Mingo pick I get it. You gotta accept the picks even if u are not happy with them. If mingo is avg at best this year this class is a straight up "F"!!!!!
Last I checked Heckertt got us sure fire "STARTERS". But Banner's Ego and wisdom muddyed the waters once again here in Cleveland. This may b the worst Cleveland draft since 2008!!
Be wary in what u hope for cause most of the time the grass is not greener on the other side.
You have to remember that Heckert had a worse team then we have now. He took over all the old fucks Mangini brought in. The players he drafted had to start, we had no other option. We couldnt land any free agents before the draft, so they had to start. Everyone of them had to get thrown into the fire, and it resulted in us having some good core players with experience. The worst thing Heckert did was Hire Shurmur, that put our team way behind with his old ass Offensive style. Heckert could have taken Tannehill or stayed with Colt another year or drafted Claiborne , who by the way is fucking head and shoulders above Dee Millner we also could have had doug martinlate in the first round . Instead he drafted a older QB, upside still to be determined. Last years draft set us back a lot more then this years draft has. We gotta live with what we have now, and hope the great coaches we hired this year can so a great job.

Wow -- Claibrone head and shoulders better than Milliner? That truly remains to be seen. Claiborne struggled mightily for the Cowboys in 2012.

What many of you don't consider is that our opponents in the AFC North did take advantage of the 2013 draft and, unlike Lombardi, thought the talent in this draft was good. All of our AFC North opponents had better drafts than the Browns, putting this team further behind the 8 ball. Now, who has better judgment: A Steelers team that is a contender every year and trades away a 2014 pick to get a safety in this draft, or Browns management (especially now with Lombardi) that has a horrific track record in the draft going back many years and doesn't add meaningful depth to its secondary in the 2013 draft by using its 4th rould pick. It will be interesting to see. I have no doubt that Thomas, the Syracuse safety the Steelers acquired with our pick, will do something important against the Browns that helps them beat us. Always happens.
Browns are chortling about getting the Steelers' #3 pick in 2014, but when all is said and done, will the Browns be picking that much ahead of the Steelers with that pick in 2014 that it makes that much of a difference? I don't think so.

Skeptical ... are you really just "the Soldier" who posted here before - albeit randomly?
cuz you sure seem like him with your practical take on the draft....
