Nfl Rumors: Firstenergy Stadium Potentially Receiving $200 Million In Upgrades
-
i've never looked at it like that. are there actually fans who get braggy their team's city hosted a SB?? that's super lame. i was thinking purely economically. in this thread someone posted Indy, who thought enough to put a roof on their stadium and be a host candidate, raked in 300M in revenue from the ordeal. doesn't make them better but it certainly makes them more well off.
with a roof Cle would at least have a shot. hell they were lightly considered without having one.
without asses in seats you get blacked-the-fuck out. how does that make sense?
3) Plueeze- the Browns aren't going anywhere in my lifetime and probably yours. The (for all practical purposes) unbreakable lease guarantees that.
crazier things have definitely happened.
i don't see it happening anytime soon either but there are ways around everything.
at least consider it could be better.
4) As to having uses other than football, as a season ticket holder I happen to know you can already have a pretty big affair there. The Club Level is available for parties (and yes wedding receptions) on non-game days. Go look at the Lucas Oil "upcoming schedule of events" it's not that impressive.
no wonder, Indy sucks.
regardless no promoter, bride to be, event coordinator etc in their right mind would ever book a party on the grass a year in advance without some way to protect everything from Mother Nature. it's not a valid option as is and i'd wager it's not even a consideration for many. i guarantee there are fans that would get married on the 50 yard line if they could get cover from weather. nobody's gonna tie the knot in the boxes.
5) As to it costing ONLY in the range of $200 million, I would sure like to see some hard figures. I know for a fact the current structure wasn't designed to support a retractable dome. The only way to do it would be to start outside the stadium, & throw up some massive I-beams to support the roof- with that comes totally re doing the exterior.. As I alluded to earlier- you're probably going to have to pay a design team in the range of $20 million just to figure out how to get the HVAC in there on top of it.
sounds doable. move enough air you don't need to artificially condition it much. having Lake Erie nearby to harness natural breezes solves at least half the problem.
a closeable Donut Deck. same as playing outside with every advantage retractibility gives the rest of the week. how sweet it would be!
Regarding a SB- that's a once in a lifetime shot for a city like Cleveland. So they raked in $300 million- want to look up how much the city had to spend in security and planning to get that? Please drop the SB option- it's not a cost effective reason for putting a dome on the stadium. You think the Browns put a roof on and go to the NFL- hey, we got a dome now!!! Give us a SB!!! It doesn't work that way, sorry.
Ohhh- games get blacked out? You're making the assumption more people will go to games if it's domed. Plenty of empty seats at Ford Field when the Lions sucked. Ditto Edward Jones in St Louis. As a season ticket holder not my problem if you can't get off your ass and get down to the game, if it's blacked out. Win, and they will come.
The Browns aren't moving- read the lease terms. Gipper can refresh your memory if you've forgotten them. There's a "specific performance" clause in the lease. The Browns HAVE to play in Cleveland for the term of the lease.
Regarding weddings, ever been in the Club Level? It's pretty nice. And there have been weddings & receptions there.
Finally- do you know anything about industrial level heating\ cooling? It's not as simple as you make it out to be. Stadium size- you've literally got millions of cubic feet of air you're going to have to heat up to near room temperature when it's 20 degrees or colder outside- or enough cooling to prevent it from turning into a sauna on a hot summer day. Hmmm- so who is supposed to pay for all those millions of BTUs and kilowatts? It won't be the city of Cleveland, I'd bet. LOL, maybe First Energy will give it to them for free, in exchange for the naming rights.

That is a good idea. First Energy, put your energy where your mouth is.

The one major non use of the stadium from what I see is the fact that they don't throw a "Concert for the Rock n. Roll Hall of Fame" every year in connection with the induction of the new members into it.
I am sure a few of you remember the old "World Series of Rock", concerts that were held in Municipal Stadium. I myself saw the likes of The Rolling Stones, Crosby/Stills/Nash and Young, Pink Floyd and a few others there.
Why would not the RRHOF have a concert at the stadium, and make it a wide open jam session for all RRHOF inductees. Invite every one of all the past inductees to come and perform a few songs. Big money could be raised to finance the RRHOF.
Why don't they do it? It makes too much sense to do so I guess. What? Are all these stars stuck with their asses in NY or LA or London or wherever. Do they HAVE to be paid a fortune to just show up and play a few tunes.
You have been honored by being inducted. Why not show up and perform just a little bit with your fellow inductees and not be greedy or lazy.

.
I think that is one helluva good idea. It could become the signature event for all of northeast Ohio... combining pro football legacy with the home
or rock and roll. Sound like a very marketable product to me. Schedule the show during the football hall of fame Enshrinement Festival.
-
Problem is they do it in NYC or LA. Once in a blue moon they come to Cleveland.
-
that in itself is sad.
i'm sure that there are more pundits that could come on here and exclaim roots of rock coming from cleveland. no, not the beginnings of r and b or blues that came from the south but fuggin ROCK AND ROLL.
if cleveland is not a big enough venue for fagass bon jovi, how do you think they'll pull in the top acts of today let alone get a super bowl bid?
cleveland needs to do a benefit concert for CLEVELAND itself televised nation-wide with every act ever connected to it performing with ravid fans going wild. put out a concert dvd and start from there.
hell, i just watched the best depeche mode live concert taped in milan, IT. i know frisky single goes shopping there but didn't know it was a hot bed for great live concerts as cleveland is.
i mean is the agora still live and kicking?

Depeche mode? I think that should firm up your eligibility into the HRHOF (homo rocker hall of fame)
Abba much?

Oddly, I do not believe it is First Energy who supplies the electric to the stadium....rather it is Cleveland Public Power.
If any of you were around in the 1970s you will know that despite what you may think of him otherwise, Dennis Kucinich led the fight against the CEI's predatory practices against "Muni Light" as it was called. CEI is now merged with First Energy nee Ohio Edison.
see this history:

Right, I believe that the City of Cleveland should throw a huge bash to commenorate the induction ceremonies for the RRHOF every year.
All they have to do is to follow the script used by Canton for the PFHOF. A big parade, a dinner, induction ceremonies, other events...and instead of a football game a concert at the stadium.
Yea, the problem is that the LA/NY douchebag crowd are too lazy to get off their asses and come to Cleveland.
Cleveland should just do it on its own....but I guess any rights to the event belong to the HOF...and that board is the douchebag set I referred to.

hoorta, could you please define dome for me? like, how you keep using it? because i don't want a dome. I believe we agree there, yes?
the story that inspired this thread was $200M in upgrades. there is a reportedly less than $6M in needed repairs/upgrades currently. a retractable roof was suggesed to be why the number is so large at $200M. i expressed my support behind the option for the stadium having cover and then some benefits if they did it. i never claimed it would bring an automatic Super Bowl hosting gig to Cleveland, i said without one it will never, ever happen. i think i
even put forth effort to capitalize...which is big for me. i can't remember what else you wrote but I remember reading dome at least 5 more times...plus li
just smoked a chillem by myself...what say we just agree to disagree at this point. to be honest im on vacation about to hike the Grand Canyon and im over it. if i think of more i'll add it on a layover.

mik please. my membership here would never survive anything near my best. nor do i need your therapy bills on my conscience. I was just breaking a little comedy "bread" with you-if you will-to try to help you take your mind off me.
i know man crushes can be severe and really fixate people so i think its best to just take it slow and help guide them casually away. maybe you could just get a tatoo of me or something. take hoorta, he could get one of a dome or something. just kidding fellas. having some fun.
seriously though, if you get the chance you should catch the Stones. I was doubtful too, but even at their age they cause viewers to drool in disbelief every time they play. they will surprise you. still im the top 5 best shows right now.
and cerwin vegas rock. i have the 12s.
-
cerwin vegas do rock. so do ARs and bose(man i've had so many speakers from way back when...i was one of the first to buy a VCR which was the size of a car's trunk and used to pop up and down with some mechanical ingenuity. then they realized they could make the same thing at 1/2 the cost and..).
had a set of bose 501s set up in 'our' room in 'my' area kickin out some serious tunes onto the german roadways from the barracks where i was at in wurzburo.
meanwhile my 'roomate' had the ARs. i came in drunk and fell into his left speaker stand while he was playing aja from steely dan for his nerdy friends. well anyways since i damaged his shit i said i just trade him even up for the ARs and bose.
guess who made out like a banit? he couldn't have been happier since they said white is right.
as a once and on again musician ....anyone remember earth amps? i think peavey bought them out but would like to hear from someone that blah............ knows.

The Browns management needs to rethink their beer policy. As it stands now, beer is not sold after the third quarter. For games
with a kickoff after 6 PM, beer sales are shut down at the start of the second half. I understand the goal of the policy, but it seems to
defeat it's intended purpose. Fans now must pack on their drink in either 3 or two quarters depending on the kickoff time. The policy
encourages two-fisted drinking and increased drunkenness. I'm confident the average fan is mature enough to pace their
consumption and enjoy beverage refreshment throughout the entire game. We sure as fuck don't need these intrusive, big brother, the-
fans-are-too-stupid-to-take-care-of-themselves regulations that deny those 4th quarter victory toasts (what few there have been).
-
here's the best way smokers and drinkers can get their fill towards the end of closing time.
first you put on your nico patch as soon as you walk in and in your coat pocket have a fake hose running from your side to a 'colostomy bag', which is really filled with draft beer.
just don't get caught on the jumbotron sucking from the hose spilling all over your face. could be pretty embarrassing.

I've put in my wish list too- like a wider concourse behind both stands. All I'm saying is $200 million to put a retractable roof on the stadium is fiscal fantasy land.
And if you're hiking the Canyon, enjoy the trip- been there, done that. Bring as much fluids as you can carry. Absolutely amazing after you hike 2,500' into the lower canyon that the Touristas don't get to see from the road. The Colorado river cut another 1\2 mile down through solid granite.

i wish i made beer...i'd make Cleveland Brown Ale myself and hand them a keg and the recipe...along with my available hours and commitment.
what the hell right? it would only need be a couple years service to deliver something so glorious to be enjoyed for generations ahead. !!
a guy can dream.
hoorta, you were right about the water. went a couple miles to "ooh ahhh" and promptly marched back up and booked the plane/slot canyon Jeep/raft slow float for the next morning. very cool.
although i may have enjoyed the earthships in Taos nearly as much. i see huge sustainable design collaborations between MR's work and my own, pairing his enormous accomplishments with passive solar and thermal masswith my own success with strawbale.
who knows, maybe someday instead of millions of tons of concrete we'll see someone out there adapting low tech concepts for use in gigantic venues like stadiums someday.

For two hundred million, surely they can start offering root beer. Hell, even if they stopped offering it after halftime, I'd be a happy camper.
All the stuff they offer, and root beer isn't available. What the....? ....dammit.
