Preseason Opener Thursday Night!

The Browns Board

  • Man that first quarter went fast

  • Weeden's not looking too bad, but I saw him staring down his Receivers . . . needs to work on that.

Defense is not overly impressing me so far.

  • Nice return!!!!!!!!! Man this is enjoyable

  • Damn Benjamin made that look easy! I dont even think he hit full speed!

  • well i guess the tavern ISN'T open tonite.

guess i'll catch the 15 second highlights on sports center.

  • Couldn't ask for a better start to our team's season. Agree Weeden was staring down guys a few plays, but they seemed to be on short precise routes.

  • Well the D still needs to gel I guess. But the O looks great even without TRich.

It is ESPN so anything west of NY or Boston is fortunate to get anything more than a mention

To be fair that was all the Rams starters against our second team defense. Not too much of a fair assumption.

To also be fair they tore up Trevin Wade (60 yarder and the touchdown), rest of the second team didnt look too bad.

Well to be fair I don't make excuses. They drove right down the field on the drive before that also. But luckily the Browns pulled a turnover to get the stop.

If you expect a full team of 2nd string players to look amazing in the first pre-season game against a 1st team offense idk what to tell you.

  • Sorry Tavern is not working for most, i will tinker with it before next game and see what the hell the problem is.

I was taking an exam tonight and just checked in, glad to see we are looking pretty good so far.

well then educate me (no, really don't) because all that the rest of the nation saw mayor white yellin into microphones how the city of cleveland will not be held hostage by the owner of a nfl team that wants a new stadium.

maybe i was drunk and didn't see that on espn, nbc, abc, cbs, cnn etc. etc.

that sure as hell sounded like a threat to me.

and BTW any team modell fielded would kick the living shit out what we have had since he left. yeah maybe he only won one title, but they won championship games, division games and they were a whole hell of a lot more entertaining that what i even seen in one game since 1999. so yeah FUCK MODELL for ulimately making the decision to leave but FUCK CLEVELAND for letting it get that far.

here's to banner (hopefully) changing that.

No, I am not going to educate you....unless you want to pay me for my time.

As far as Modell doing better than what we have had since? Sure. Any idjit can see that.

But, the fact still remains that during his 35 year tenure with the Browns, they played in exactly 2 championship game...going 1-1 back to back in 1964-1965. (In other words, none, zero, zip, nil, in his last 30 years here) Overall record during his tenure was pretty good: 278-233-6.

But, the point you forget is that: A. Modell VOLUNTARILY opted out of the Gateway Project, and. B. He ran and controlled the stadium...and ran it into the ground. C. The ideas that the City went along with to improve the stadium situation were ALL Modell's ideas, and D. the vote to improve the stadium occurred the day after he said he was trying to leave.

And, by the way...YES, I do believe you were drunk....because never, ever did I ever hear Mike White say that he would not have the city held hostage to an owner that owned a new stadium.

The next time I hear that stated will be the first time I will have heard that stated.

Find the video, or the newspaper quote where that occurred....because I never heard it ever...and I lived here in the Cleveland area where this situation was on the news all the time.

(no doubt White had some choice words about Modell....after his announcement...but Never before. They were having day to day negotiations all along...until Modell sneaked off to Baltimore in Lerner's plane)

Technically they played in at least five championship games. The AFC championship game is a championship game. It says so right in it's title: "AFC championship game"

  • Preseason protocol. Don't want the starters to get hurt now

Idiot protocol. If guys are that fucking frasgile to get hurt in teh 4 game preseason, they why the fuck ever play them at all? Play the hit players until they all get hurt, and then bring the first team in around game 13. That way they won't have such a high probability of getting hurt.

    Dumbest fucking philosophy ever.

Teams with guys like Brady, Ben, AJ Gren, James Harrison, that is to say, proven, superstars don't need to be played, but not for injury concerns, they can it back and let the young guys get seasoning.

But our team blows Honey Boo Boo ass. Play em!

Cinci looked great. All three offnsive units and QBs were banging on all cylinders.

Well, again, it's not passing versus running .. it's passing working with running.

Franco has four titles ... what do you know, so does Terry Bradshaw!

Emmit Smith has three titles ... hey, so does Troy Aikman!

John Elway didn't get two until he had a better balanced team around him around him, Dan Marino never got one because he didn't have enough of a team around him.

IF Weeden is the answer ... he is walking into a good situation with Thomas, Richardson, Gordon and Little in place and good coaches who understand balanced offense. IMO. Let's hope ... and pray .. Weeds is the one.

If not, there is always next year.

What a stupid argument you are all having. Thank you Zombo for saying what many of us are thinking, and rightly so. It is a TEAM game. Those lists from Gipper are dumb but they do prove (if you read between the lines) that the best TEAMS win superbowls.

Well, I guess maybe we throw the word championship game around a little too liberally. Maybe we can call the first round the Wildcard championship game and the second round the Division Championship game.

While yes, I use that terminology too, in reality, the Championship Game is the Final Game. If you have to go on to play and try to win another game before getting your ring...then you haven't played in a real Championship Game.

You would not call the winner, say of the American League Pennant the "Champion" until and unless that team goes on to win the World Series.

  • Except the wild card game is the wild card game. The divisional round is the divisional round. The AFC championship game is the AFC championship game. You'd have to take that up with the NFL

The Indians were the American League champions in 95 and 97. Says so right on the pennant.

Yea, but, do you think the Indians were THE Champions in 1995 an 97?

Let's face it, Cleveland teams have competed in THE Championship Game....or Championship Series only 5 times since 1960 (long before most of you were probably born), which is about the time of my consciousness about sports began:

1964 Browns win NFL Championship game over Colts

1965 Browns lose NFL Championship game vs. Packers

1995 Indians lose World Series to Braves

1997 Indian lose World Series to Marlins

2007 Cavs lose NBA Finals to Spurs

Compare that to that pisspot town to the east in the same period:

    1960 Won WS

    1968 Won ABA

    1971 Won WS

    1974 Won SB

    1974 Won SB

    1978 Won SB

    1979 Won WS

    1979 Won SB

    1991 Won NHL

    1992 Won NHL

    1995 Lost SB

    2005 Won SB

    2008 Lost NHL

    2008 Won SB

    2009 Won NHL

    2010 Lost SB

16 appearances compared to our 5. Like one of them said, it is the town of good fortune, i.e. dumbass luck.

Even those yippers down in SW Ohio have had more "Championship appearances" than Cleveland:

    1961 Lost WS

    1970 Lost WS

    1972 Lost WS

    1975 Won WS

    1976 Won WS

    1981 Lost SB

    1988 Lost SB

    1990 Won WS

And the fuckfaces from crab city had these:

1964 Lost NFL (had won in 1959)

    1966 Won WS

    1968 Lost SB

    1969 Lost WS

    1970 Won WS

    1970 Won SB

    1971 Lost NBA

    1971 Lost WS

    1979 Lost WS

    1983 Won WS

    2000 Won SB

    2012 Won SB

So, yes, these other towns, which are all similar in size and in the number of teams that play there have all had much better fortune than Cleveland has had.
