Observations, notes, quotes and some facts on Day 14 of Browns training camp …
* There was a period of time on Sunday when Bernie Kosar’s job as Browns TV analyst was in doubt. But cooler heads prevailed and the popular former quarterback will continue on WKYC TV-3’s preseason broadcasts after a firestorm broke out over comments Kosar made about the Rams.
During Channel 3’s broadcast of the Browns’ 27-19 win over the Rams on Thursday, Kosar harshly criticized the Rams’ receivers, receivers coach Ray Sherman and quarterback Kellen Clemens. In St. Louis, Rams coach Jeff Fisher thought the comments were over the top and said he “lost a lot of respect for him.”
Kosar personally called and apologized to Fisher on Sunday.
Browns CEO Joe Banner issued a statement reprimanding Kosar but indicating he would continue as TV analyst.
Banner said in the statement, “We don't condone the personal and unprofessional approach that Bernie took with some of his comments during the broadcast Thursday night. We’ve spoken to Bernie, he understands that, and we would expect the situation is resolved moving forward. We’ve also reached out to the Rams organization and have shared those same sentiments."
* Two fans earned the offense and defense the night off by making short field goals at the end of practice. Coach Rob Chudzinski pulled out two random fans to attempt the kicks with the entire team circled around them. Anthony Kinney of Shaker Heights made his kick to cancel the offensive meetings, and then D.J. Rapposelli of Mayfield Heights came through for the defense.
On Saturday, Chudzinski initiated a competition between offense and defense in a goal-line drill. By not scoring a TD – because the coach ruled a sack -- the offense was limited to peanut and jelly sandwiches for dinner.
“Competition makes people better,” Chud said. “I’ve always felt that, and that’s gone back to base philosophy from when I was playing football. Different ways of creating competition, you get into the doldrums of training camp and different ways of creating some fun as well. Of course, I have a special place in my heart for the fans and getting them involved out here in practice. I think everybody enjoys.”
* Josh Gordon looked like he logged a few miles running patterns. He got behind Buster Skrine on a long Brandon Weeden bomb, but couldn’t pull in the ball coming in directly over his head as he tumbled to the ground. On a crossing pattern, Gordon snared Weeden throw with one hand. Shortly thereafter, the rarest of all sights – Weeden overthrowing Gordon on a 50-yard fly pattern down the left sideline.
* Running back Montario Hardesty made his first appearance on the practice field in over a week. Hardesty had been out with a hamstring tendon injury. He was limited to individual drills. Safety T.J. Ward also was back after missing Thursday’s game and some practices with a sore hamstring. Also back was H-back Brad Smelley after a hamstring injury.
* Still out were cornerbacks Chris Owens (arch) and rookie Leon McFadden (groin).
* Another player still out is receiver David Nelson (knee). Chudzinski said, “He has made progress. We have been talking to him. We will just have to see how he comes along.”

who was just talking football.

Nah- he wasn't the first person to call Kosar a drunk by a long shot.
As I told the Emperor- if your daughter turned into a Porn Star, your wife divorced you, and you went bankrupt- just maybe you could develop a drinking problem. Of course Ghoolie blames all that on Kosar being a drunk- I'll let you decide.

Some of you are ridiculous. Flip the teams and you'd be saying the complete opposite. He's defending his players. You'd be outraged if our coach didn't do the same. If the other team's commentator was saying these things about our guys, you'd be up in arms. The blatant one sidedness on this site sometimes is ridiculous

I would expect most folks on a Browns Board forum would be partial to the Browns and their players. Don't know that I've ever heard a coach of an opposing team chastise the other team's TV broadcasters for a pre-season game.
I disagree; I do not ever recall anyone expressing outrage or a coach mentioning they have lost respect for one Myron Cope when he spoke such filth towards not only Browns squad members, but the city and citizens as well. I personnally could care less what other teams employees and / or fans say about us. Hell check out Cincitucky radio play by play and listen to Dave Lapham grunt, groan and drool all over himself during a game...it is all entertainment; folks need to wash the sand out of their vagina

Bottom line on this: despite the way he may have pulled it off....with his attempts at humor, Bernie Kosar is 100% right:
A. The Rams receivers sucked ass. They were dropping the ball right left and center, they were running bad routes and they generally played poorly...and WERE coached poorly.
B. Kellen Clemens IS a bad QB. (but note, Bernie did say later that Clemens did play well after he made his original comments)
Yes, the truth hurts.
Apparently, Fisher and the Rams can't handle the truth.

But....it was somewhat refreshing to hear someone tell the facts without trying to be completely diplomatic and politically correct.
The Rams receivers played poorly and they and their coaches SHOULD be embarassed over that performance.
And, if Bernie says that he hated the fact that he had to watch Kellen Clemens play an entire quarter....so be it.
Also...get this: one of the reasons that Jeff Fisher may have been so butt hurt over Bernie's comments....it appears that Fisher's own son is one of the coaches on the Rams, and WRs are his area of coaching.

Glad you brought up Myron Cope- besides being obnoxious (and if Fisher thought Bernie was being politically incorrect) Get a load of THIS: He gets also my vote as the most obnoxious radio voice I've ever heard.
Yeah., Cinitucky announcer Dave Lapham is the worst homer I've ever heard- he makes anything Bernie did look tame.
For the young 'uns I've always said Cope sounded remarkably similar to this old time "voice" of a lot of cartoon characters- Arnold Stang. Fast forward to 2:16.

i never got picked on in school beavis. the jocks loved me. i sold them their drugs. but they did pick on other people and for that i call them assholes.
