  • I'm an OSU fan, so I hope I'm wrong about this. But if Miller turns out to be half as good as RG3, I will be a shrimp boat captain

  • Only qb that matters is Bridgewater.

At least Braxton is good. Also, Braxton is bigger than Manziel and RGIII. Supposedly Braxton has made a lot of progress on his throwing mechanics and footwork this offseason as he spent a couple weeks with QB guru George Whitfield. Make no mistake about it, Miller will be in New York for the Heisman presentation.

Miller is listed at 6'2" 215. Gardner is 6'4" 204.

    OK, so Gardner= Byron Leftwich

    Miller= RGIII

I never said Miller was bigger than Gardner or as good as RGIII. I was simply saying that Miller is big enough and that he's tons better than Gardner.

    Miller= RGIII

  • McCarron is overrated. He has the best team in the country around him. He'll just be a game manager in the NFL...

...but then again I never though Kirk Cousins would be as good as he is.

Big prize is Clowney obviously. Hopefully Lewan is going top 5 too. It would depend on who needs QBs that high, but I think he'll be the top tackle.

I think McCarron has a chance to be good, but unfortunately Alabama's office since Saban has been there puts QB's as 'game managers'. All i know is he looked FANTASTIC in the title game, albeit against an extremely overrated Notre Dame team.

This kid has his head on right. He will graduate from UL at the end of this year. Somewhere along the way he has listened to a mentor who has kept him on the straight and narrow. He would have been top QB selected in 2013 draft had he come out.

Yes, and my post implied that I agreed with you. (And who knows, if RGIII can't stay healthy, RGIII may not end up being as good as people think RGIII should be.....and maybe, in fact, Miller could actually end up being better than RGIII.

    Maybe.

  • I'd give up my draft and next years #1 for Clowney. He is as good a prospect to ever come down the line. Randy White, LeRoy Selom, Bruce Smith.....that is what we are talking about. A once every 25 year player.

  • Get Clowney for the Defense and McCarron for the Offense and Call it a draft.

  • I don't trust QBs from the bigger schools. Too much talent around them and it makes them harder to read. Not a big McCarron fan. But Bridgewater... that guy took an alright Louisville team and beat the crap out of Florida.

Don't trust QBs from bigger schools?

Would you say these are not "big schools":

    Michigan...Tom Brady

    Tennessee...Peyton Manning

    Purdue...Drew Brees

    Auburn...Cam Newton

    Boston College...Matt Ryan

    Georgia...Matt Stafford

    Stanford...Andrew Luck

    Oklahoma...Sam Bradford

    USC...Carson Palmer

    NC St.....Phillip Rivers

    Mississippi...Eli Manning

    Wisconsin....Russell Wilson

    Oklahoma St....Weeden

For every BR that comes out of Miami, Oh., or ever Colin Kaepernick that comes out of Nevada-Reno, there are 3-4 starting NFL QBs that come from the power conference schools.

When I think of the bigger schools I think of the Oklahomas, the USCs, the Ohio States, the Michigans. The ones that are always in the national title hunt and get the top recruits just because of their name.

Georgia? Yea they're a big school in a big conference, but they're not one of the elite programs that is in the hunt every year. The reason they've been in it the last few years is quarterbacking. Stafford and Murray are pretty good qbs. In between those two qbs Georgia wasn't in BCS bowl games and playing for the SEC Championship.

You do have your exceptions though. Brady at Michigan, Palmer at USC, and even though he hasn't done much in the NFL, I'd put Sam Bradford from Oklahoma in that category.

I guess most bigger schools just run gimmicky offenses. Give me a guy from a pro style offense any day.

  • Agree on Pro style QB...

    On Clowney...

He has been an awesome DE in a 4-3, but where do you play him in a 3-4???

If he's as good as everyone says, wherever you feel like it.

  • Well, let's put it this way: Of the 32 projected starting QBs in the NFL this season, they all come from 31 schools:

Only USC has 2 with Sanchez and Palmer, the other schools are:

    Boston College...Matt Ryan

    Delaware...Flacco

    Houston...Kolb

    Auburn...Newton

    Vanderbilt...Cutler

Was on my phone this morning and couldn't give a good idea of what I mean. The guys I consider of this list to be from smaller, non traditional power schools are Matt Ryan, Kolb, Cutler, Dalton, Weeden, Romo, Stafford, Rodgers, Schaub, Luck, Gabbert, Alex Smith, Tannehill, Brees, Eli, Vick, Roethlisberger, Rivers, Wilson (most of his time was at NC State), Kaepernick, Freeman, Locker, and Griffin.

I'd almost put Manning in there just because Manning was running that offense and Tennessee is hit or miss on being a power. Back then they were phenomenal, but now they're not so much. I'd almost put Newton in there as well. Without Newton, Auburn has been a pretty mediocre team for the better part of a decade (04 as an obvious exception). Most QBs from schools like Oklahoma, USC, Miami, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, etc. just don't pan out. The QBs I trust the most are the ones that go to a school like Georgia or Stanford. They have some talent around them so they can show of their skills, but they're not overwhelmed with 5 star recruits every year that can make a mediocre QB look good.

Why I like Bridgewater so much? He plays for Louisville, a team that is solid and can usually put together 7-5 seasons and play in a bowl game, but you put a QB like Teddy in there and they immediately jump up to the Sugar Bowl and dominate a really good, one loss Florida team. Plus he has a good head on his shoulders unlike so many players.

  • Should we decide this year that Weeden isn't the guy. I'm in for Bridgewater as well.

Honestly I am not sure where you get your thinking. A decent QB can come from just about anywhere. Here are the schools where Hall of Fame QBs have come from:

    UCLA...2 Aikman/Waterfield

    Oregon...2 Van Brocklin/Fouts

    Alabama...2 Namath/Starr

Purdue...2 Dawson/Griese...could have another with Brees

    Duke...2 Jurgenson/Parker

    Michigan...Friiedman...will have another with Brady

    TCU...Baugh

    Regis Colleg...Herber

    Columbia...Luckman

    Kentucky...Blanda

    La. Tech...Bradshaw

    Stanford...Elway

    Northwestern...Graham

    Miami, Fla...Kelly

    Texas....Layne

    Pitt...Marino

    Notre Dame...Montana

    Washington...Moon

    Navy...Staubach

    Georgia...Tarkenton

    LSU...Tittle

    Louisville...Unitas

    BYU...Young

Big schools, small schools, etc. I will admit that particulary Oklahoma and Ohio St. have been more traditionally RB, rather than QB schools.

But, I mean, the one school in Ohio that might produce a HOF QB could be Miami, O. not Ohio St. (it already has produced 1 POTUS to -0- for OSU 😐

  • I think the point 'Hunt Daddy' is trying to make, is that you can see a college QB flatter to deceive, at a top college like USC - see: Barkley, M - where his mistakes can be masked by excellent players around them. They may struggle in the NFL because they don't have the relatively elite talent around them. Then, those QBs that come from 'smaller' schools don't have the quality around them to mask their mistakes, so you can generally be a bit more sure that they're the guy driving the team rather than relying on a stud WR/RB.

OK, sure. To a point yes. I think the one that that can definitely be said is that USC QBs are universally overrated. Mainly because they are THE pro QB in a way in the second largest media market in the nation....but Leinert/Sanchez/Barkley all are overrated. Only Carson Palmer, somewhat, lived up to his billing

Right, it's not like you can't get great QBs out of great colleges - obviously, the best high school players sign with the best colleges and do sometimes end up being the top guys in the NFL. But you have to be a bit more cautious to make sure you get what you think you're getting.
