Weeden Blows! December, 2012
-
Browns149 nailed it.
And nasty old Ghoolie just made a very honest post -
anybody can be bitter etc etc etc...
but the difference in how the Browns are playing on both sides of the
ball is really, really encouraging. Hell with the past.
The Browns and fans suffering over all the (*&^&^ years - that's in the past.
Sure, it's easy to vent that the new big pickup truck is stuck in the mud, if
it's stuck in the mud. But, it looks like the Browns are out of the rut they've
been in.
Even the biggest Browns critics and bitchers and moaners can see the Browns
are playing differently in a fine way now. But who wants to keep going over the past
and damning the pickup forever, because it USED to be in that big rut? (okay, for years @@)...
Even Ghoolie isn't that crotchety.
It's out now, according to preseason. the mud is all washed off the truck, everything is as good
as new, except for Browns' fans' patience. Throw out the whole past, and love the nice, clean pickup truck !
And if the steering wheel still isn't up to par, then you know you need a qb.
* I know, I'm just excited to see the real coaches and system and play of the Browns this year.....
This is the first year I'm seeing a very different attitude, and organized TEAM - and really, really can't wait
to see how the difference in the Browns plays out. If Weeden keeps right on going the way he's gone in the first two games, it's going to be a heck of a lot of fun to watch the Browns this year.

On paper Weeds has shown significant improvement. Comparing his current stats with last years through two preseason games:
2012 15/29 180 yards 1 td QBR 47 avg
2013 18/25 229 yards 3 td QBR 133 avg
He's earned the starting spot, in my mind. He's showing a lot more pocket presence and line of scrimmage smarts.
He looks a lot more comfortable and he has to feel great about Turner's offensive schemes. There were some amazing throws
against the Lions especially the long gainer to J Gordon. Gordon made one helluva catch on that play too......reaching out with
one arm to control the ball for the completion. He makes it look easy. It looks like Weeds has some additional playmakers with Cameron
stepping up. Weeds has got to be feeling great about the direction the Browns are heading.

slow, what is up
with your spacing
and random returns?
HA! (no cal is the king of that.....at least he doesn't spell the..... teh).
ANYWAYS i liked what i saw against detroit and yeah their defensive line is great but pretty much everyone was wide open except that glorious pass to gordon going down the sidelines. detroit's secondary is not that great, at all. PLUS weeden has got to STOP STARING DOWN THE RECEIVERS.
great improvement from what i saw last year though.
let's see how we do when play some better teams.

Here it is All of you bashing Weeden LOL
Here it is All of you bashing Weeden LOL
tamp, you really need to improve your understanding of "all"...
To anyone who has followed the Browns, even nasty ass me, you can see something different from any year I can remember.
And the good Ghoulie makes an appearance. I agree with cal, good, thoughtful post...
I think that something is the FO/ staff. They arrived with more questions than answers and were not afraid of that circumstance. Now they are getting some answers... and they are still not afraid.
As for Wheezy... I don't doubt his arm... never have. The question is, "is it attached to a legitimate NFL QB?" While the jury is still out on that one, the odds of the answer being "Yes" did improve through the 2012 season and this pre-season has confirmed that improvement.
That said the hurdles he still has in front of him, i.e., reading defenses to facilitate audibles and going through his progressions, and influencing defenses by looking off Safeties and effectively play-faking, are not trivial hurdles.
While I do not doubt that this staff gives him a far better chance of clearing those hurdles than the prior regime did, clearing them is far from guaranteed.

Yeah, I had some complaints about Weeden last year.
I said he should have been pulled out game one, just because he wasn't ready and you could tell it.
Didn't mean not to start him game two, he was just overwhelmed that first game . . . would have probably given us another win as well, but that's irrelevant now.
Did I say Weeden sucked?
No, Shurmur sucked, Weeden was Rookie.
Shurmur should have played Weeden game 4 Pre-Season last year for additional experience, but he didn't.
Hell, look at the cluster our sidelines were last year between time management, play calling, and just getting a play called.
I seriously have questions as to how well any QB could function playing in fire-drill mode all the time - I mean the guy had to feel like he was always in crisis rush just to get a play off.
The issues that concerned me with Weeden last year was locking on Receivers and missing (not seeing) open Receivers.
Some of these issues may still be there to some degree, we'll just have to see.
I'm not sure if he has it mentally yet or not, but so far this year I see definite improvement.

Actually, my last post, I had to go take out the extra blank lines again. I'm retired now, but I was a
corporate programmer/analyst, a consultant towards the end..and in programming, I wrote thousands
of lines in just one part of a program. I always double spaced, so when/if I was working with someone else on a project,
I could use the blank lines to write in notes to explain to them how the logic flowed, and if I rewrote a section of code, I would comment out the lines of code I replaced, insert my code below, using the blank line as a marker..
I still catch myself doing it, dammit. LOL

And I agree. It seemed that the whole offense was trying to make Shurmur's dumbass system work, and it didn't.
The difference this year is amazing. The regular season is weeks away, and the Browns are playing nearly mistake free
football most of the time - referring to penalties... Weeden and co. look like they are in the smart system that is aggressive,
and works with their talents. I noticed once or twice Weeden locking only in the direction of a throw, but those
were more quick outs. The ultimate proof of the dumbass system shurm and co had in place, is the archaic and
incompetent system of sending in plays. That was inexscusable. Now? Aggressive, smartly designed plays
are the rule from this coaching staff. That is SMART coaching. Gotta love it.

because he has no other claim to fame except to point out other's mistakes (and NO they weren't mistakes, they were like you said normal fan chatter for the same team he supposedly roots for), or start a thread about how the browns should change their uniforms.
Right- you didn't see me ragging on Brandon in this thread. And to keep it real, I changed the name of the thread. OK Weeds has looked good in the preseason, so did Colt McCoy, Charlie Frye, or Ben Gay for that matter. Better coaching and some off season work seemed to have helped- we'll see in 3 weeks, when the games count. And Tampa, if you want to dredge up the past- just remember that hindsight is always 20\20.

Are you saying that you think Weeden will still be the Browns QB in 2020? If he is, he will still be at least one season short of Otto Graham's tenure as starting Browns QB

-
Damn sure hope he's are starter in 2020. I hope he's got Favre like durability even if he's an average/slightly above QB. Thankfully our pass protection is as good as it is and hopefully won't be an issue

Looks like I am not the only one.
